Hey JW'ers. I randomly started having an issue with a periodic digitally distorted, 'bargled' output from my old Mbox 2 USB interface and my Mac Pro desktop cpu, running Mac OSX 10.8.5. No idea where this is coming from, as I've been running this same setup, relatively unchanged for a couple years now. I have a temporary fix, going through Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup and toggling the Digidesign Mbox 2 tab Clock Source from Internal to S/PDIF and back. But it keeps happening, and I'm mystified as to why this issue would just start up like this. Any ideas for a steady fix? I figure a full OS update would probably solve it.. but I just wanted to see if anyone could…

We have installed a brand new 24" iMac at the Union Local 695 as part of the work being done by the newly formed Education Committee. The plan is to have this Mac available for our union members for training --- everything from basic computer skills to file management, Pro Tools, Boom Recorder and so forth. The really good thing about the Mac is that with Boot Camp we are able to have both a beautiful Mac running OS X AND a Mac running Windows for those who wish to get some training on that platform. Courtney installed Windows XP and his BWF Widget Pro software on the iMac and we anticipate that we will be installing more software, both Mac and Windows, in the near future…

Apple has released a re-vamped version of Logic which includes as well the new Soundtrack Pro 2 (that ships already as part of Final Cut Studio). At the core of Logic Studio is Logic Pro 8, Apple’s professional digital audio workstation. Among the changes in Logic is a new, single window interface. According to Apple, the interface now allows instant access to music creation and production functions, including snap-to-transient selection and sample accurate editing directly in the Arrange window. Logic Pro 8 also features new audio production tools like Quick Swipe Comping and dynamic channel strip creation. In addition to surround production capabilities, the ne…

There is an excellent and thorough article available that discusses legacy ports and technology with a good history of the computer industry on this issue. It is a long article but helps to understand the relationships between technology development, manufacturing costs and marketing, consumer acceptance and so forth. It is a good read for anyone wishing to add to their knowledge about these things and aids in thoughtful analysis of the current state of computer hardware development. I believe there is useful information here but I need to warn everyone that the article IS rather Mac-centric (I am sure no one here is surprised by that). READ IT HERE Regards, Jeff W…

Got this from CNET. What I found amusing was the You Tube video posted from the same Vietnamese web site that did the teardown of the iPhone 4G. The tech shows no respect for the packaging or what's inside. The hammering in the background also makes me wonder where the hell is he? Specifications for the MacBook that appear in the video include an Intel 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor (updated from the current 2.26GHz chip) and Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics (updated from the aging Nvidia 9400M graphics silicon). http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-20005073-64.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20
