I seem to remember someone asking about audio conversion software for the Mac. There is a new version of Sound Grinder available that could be useful. I have only limited personal experience with an older version but it did do what it was supposed to do. http://www.monkey-tools.com/pages/products/sgmain.htm Regards, Jeff Wexler

The first of its kind. Belkin’s TuneStudio for iPod is the first 4-channel audio mixer that lets you create high-quality digital recordings directly onto your iPod. This mixer allows the input of up to four different instruments or audio sources, and records the audio onto your iPod for instant playback. TuneStudio is currently compatible with: iPod classic 80GB 160GB iPod nano (3rd generation) 4GB 8GB iPod 5th generation (video) 30GB 60GB 80GB iPod nano (2nd generation) 2GB 4GB 8GB I’m with the band. TuneStudio is compact, portable, and tough enough to withstand life in on the road. Bands can easily attach instruments and micro…

I have been using Boom Recorder successfully with my MacBook Pro and a Mackie Onyx 1620i mixer, with the Firewire option. I recently upgraded to 8.5.0 and the MacBook Pro is running Yosemite. I have worked with this setup without a problem, until today. We did several setups without incident until, around 10am, I lost timecode and the software aborted the take. Luckily I was able to switch to my backup recorder, but I lost a couple of takes and, more importantly, production had to wait for us. I restarted and did all the pertinent troubleshooting things and it eventually came back, but it's not reliable, and it cuts off eventually. Timecode comes from a Deneck…

Hi all, I've just installed Boot Camp and am doing some testing to see if I can get rid of my Windows only notebook and came across a really wierd problem and was hoping someone here might have a suggestion. I'm rendering a video on the Mac (in Windows) and my output is targetting an external drive (Seagate 300 GB FW). I can see the render writing the files out, but when it is done, and I shut down and start the other computer, the files are gone. There is just one file in the folder, called change.log. Any ideas? I really want to switch to the Mac for everything (it renders the same video 1 hour faster - huge difference). Thanks in advance! Phil

Like someone else, who asked a question about Safari in an earlier thread, I don't know whether this part of the site contemplates discussion about computer issues that are not directly related to sound recording. Just a note to say that after downloading the new Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft's first thorough reworking of IE in years, a few weeks ago (I gather that earlier this week, it was installed via the internet, automatically, on the computers of most Windows users), I decided to have a look at Opera and Firefox. I had not tried these products before. It turns out that there are quite big differences between these interfaces with the internet. In my case, I wa…

hello Somebody uses programs like Audio Finder, Soundminer, Library Monkey Pro. I'm looking for the right browser to keep ordered in my sound library. I saw that Audio Finder does not handle metadata very accurately, but you can drag the files directly on the timeline of protools. I would like to be able to manage all my sound archive with a single database. Can anyone recommend me a program?

Hello! I've had my Lacie Rugged decide to just not connect on several occasions on location recently, and even though I've got the recordings on my 788's internal drive which I then backup on my bigger drive at home, I'm paranoid and like to make as many copies as possible So, can anyone recommend a sturdy location hard drive instead of the Rugged? Cheers! Eren

Going to England for Christmas and want to take some movies. Can I play my NTSC movies using my MacBook Pro monitor out (using HDMI adapter) to HDMI input on a PAL HDTV? Or via a VGA input (is there an adapter for that)? Thanks

Late-night comedy show Conan has taken the unusual step of satirizing Final Cut Pro X. A skit from the latest episode (see below) features members of the show's production team supposedly praising the new video editing suite. The clip itself is badly edited though, with sudden cuts, missing titles, out-of-sync audio and shifting color and lighting. While the sketch is tongue-in-cheek, it does reflect growing criticism of Pro X amongst professionals. The software is missing some commonly-expected features, such as support for older Final Cut project files, or output to tape, which is used by TV studios. Some of these gaps could be filled in future updates. …

Does anyone know of an inexpensive and downloadable program I can use to copy a few DVDs to my laptop or CF cards? We are traveling, and I'd like my kids to be able to watch movies on the laptop with less battery drain than the internal DVD drive. I would love to use my CF cards and a reader, if that would be better. I tried Mac The Ripper, but it created several files, which was confusing. I want a single mp4 or similar file which contains just the movie. Click and play for the kids. By the way, I own the real DVDs, which I bought retail, and I do not intend to share the files. No questionable activity here. Thanks. Robert

I watched the posted Guided Tour of the new iLife 08 software suite and I was struck again by the value of the Mac. I really don't know what software programs are bundled for free with most PC purchases and I have to admit that I also don't know how much can be accomplished with just the Microsoft software that ships with all PC's. I have a favor to ask of my Windows using friends --- would you look at the Guided Tour online and then let me know if a Windows based PC, out of the box, can this easily and elegantly accomplish all of these things. I know I have been accused of being a Mac bigot (or kinder, a Mac zealot) but I really feel that no other company, other than …

one for the "other computers"... as OS X seems to be left out of the support loop, perhaps as much to do with Apple as Dell, but an interesting product nonetheless, especially if it works in single touch mode with Macs. Has anyone ever used any of Dell's other touchscreens with Macs before? http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/displays/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=320-1819 Dell ST2220T 21.5" W Multi-touch monitor with IPS

Hi guys, My beloved TiG4 550 died recently, I bought a MB Pro 2.2 to replace it, all went well in the transition, except Virtual PC wont work on the new Mac... Bought the latest (v3.0) Parallels... I can't get it to Install Win 98SE, or Win95 for that matter (I know W98 is ancient, but that's what I need to run my accounts software). Anybody out there with experience of this? (I have read on some blogs that Parallels 3.0 is basically a croc, as Bootcamp does not support W98, any alternatives?). I was looking forward to using drag & drop between the two platforms, BW Pro etc. but I really need to Invoice my clients, keep track of possible deadbeats & do my taxes.…

This is a $2 cable, but with $12 shipping it's frustrating. I still don't know that this experiment is going to work. This is to power a ATA/IDE to CF adapter I just purchased, which arrived without a power cable (darned fine print)!! I'm hoping someone might have one in a pile of computer cables somewhere, and would be willing to stick it in an envelope for me for a few bucks. It's more than just being cheap... sending a tiny cable in a box via UPS ground just seems like overkill! It looks like the attached photo, but I only really need one of the smaller ends. LP4 male to SP4 female. Thanks, Robert

I'm about to buy a 744T recorder and want to buy a MacBook to burn deliverable CD-Rs as well as a platform for future Boom Recorder use. It's been suggested I use Roxio Toast as a burner program. Any comments? Do I need this software, or is there effective software already bundled in the Mac? This will be my first Apple computer. The other option is to use the SD/ Panasonic DVD RAM unit. Any insights welcome. Chris Newton
