I'm not quite sure what I was showing Goldie here but we both seem to think it's pretty funny. We had a terrific time on "Foul Play" and a little bit of trivia: it was John Coffey's first job on production --- Don and I hired him to work as our utility person (of course back then the position was always called "the third man" or "the cable guy") and I think that helped launch John's career in production sound. Sorry the cart is not configured yet, but you'll get the idea. Probably won't get it well dialed until this fall at which time I'll post a follow-up. Note the break-down feature and groovy roller-skate wheels on the top mod allowing me to roll it into my truck. I mounted the 01V and traveler so you can better see utility and scale. All (most?) of my electronics will stay on the top mod and all power stuff except distro will live below. 2-3U drawer will go under bottom mod full shelf. Still leaves room in the bottom mod for all my power needs. Still planning to keep a chase cart handy for larger jobs, but this will be a big upgrade for me. EB

Hello everyone, Im a film student, and I am getting into production sound mixing. I have worked on tons of shoots (indy mostly) as a sound mixer and love it! But I don't yet have a sound cart, I am thinking of building one but don't know of any good places to get the materials except 80/20 but would like input on designs, A couple things I had in mind for the cart, I want to be able to tuck my Pelican 1620 case on the cart, (somewhere on the bottom) I just want a cart that's simple and sweet, a couple shelves and maybe a drawer. I also need it to be able to collapse, to fit in my little car ( or small enough to fit) Here is my setup. Aaton Cantar X2 (no mixer board …

I have always been attracted to art. I do not draw, or paint, although I love to take photo's. I love when I can take an artistic approach to a scene. For a couple of years now, I have really been digging "street art", and found a great website for it, in case anyone else is interested. www.streetartutopia.com Here some recent art finds I would like to share with everyone. Enjoy! and

For awhile I was using a modified baby stroller as a sound cart (seen here) and recently I decided it was time for an upgrade. I liked the idea of a two-module sound cart, much like the RastOrder SU, so I built my own using the 80/20® framing system. I purchased the Chindha recorder brackets first, then designed the top module around that. I then built the base module from the measurements of the top module. I made it wide enough so I can add rack rails in the future if I need to. The top module connects to the base module with four T-knob screws. I purchased a 3' lon…

Woodstock unseen: 45 years on, photos from music's most famous festival - recall an era of peace, love and half a million hippies camped out on a dairy farm. " Not only is Woodstock one of the most famous music festivals of all time - it was also one of the defining moments of the 1960s counter-culture movement. Rolling Stone magazine’s first photographer Baron Wolman was sent to Max Yasgur's farm in the Catskills to cover the festival. More interested in the crowd than the performers - his photographs are hugely evocative and offer an insight into this legendary event that is rarely seen. …

Hello All, I am a big fan (and regular visitor) of this site since its inception and an occasional poster of late. Thanks Jeff for an invaluable contribution to our community. I truly appreciate your initiative and ongoing effort with this discussion group. A few months ago I decided to build a new sound cart and started looking at other mixers' rigs on the web. I visited several of you on set, taking pictures and asking questions. Well, a busy year of docu mixing, reality supervising/mixing, and occasional scripted gigs ensued and the project largely got put on hold. I've gotten by okay and I'm actually glad I waited, because I have a much clearer idea now o…

I decided to adapt/adopt, the ergonomics of working out of a bag to the small cart configuration. I don't want to wear it, just have a means to transport it. I can also leap off of this and into a car/rig situation, without to much trouble.

With a Teradek Cube encoder attached to a camera, the video transmission can be connected to over WiFi. I work as a sound mixer on a truTV show called Hardcore Pawn and I receive the video feed from my camera on an iPod Touch. I power the iPod from the USB port on a Remote Audio BDSv4u box and this allows the iPod to stay on all day. The ability to see the exact frame has made me a much better sound mixer for this show, which is filmed at a Detroit pawn shop. When the customers start getting angry and wild, the video feed on my iPod helps to show me exactly how close I can get my boom mic in. It also helps me to change my mic placement whenever my camera op changes h…

Bruce Bisenz, one of my oldest sound mixer friends, retired 3 years ago and so is no longer using this custom mixing panel he designed and had built. Bruce had a long and interesting career having done such films as "Norma Rae", "Personal Best", "Purple Rain", and "Tequila Sunsrise". This mixer was last used by Bruce on the film "Without Limts" in 1998. Here is Bruce's description of the panel: Everything was designed during the 2 track era to make it possible to precision equalize wireless mics/lavaliers (first with my custom nominal curve) and then to trim individually so that lav sound would be a dead match for the fishpole mic. Also to route various mics and (equ…

My old mini-van has 195k on it and let me down the last time I had to leave town, so I got this one. Rent A Center turns its vans every 3 years. They are custom built by Superior Industries, the guys that make BIG trucks. The have a custom solid bulkhead and 2 rows of E-track with carpet on 3 sides. They were all over the country a few months ago after auction, and I found this 2009 on Ebay for a good price. It only had 27k miles on it. I got a shelf off my last show for free, put security screens on the windows, and bought a ramp. It's not as cool as the cube Phil Palmer used to have, but I don't own that much stuff. Here's the before and after.

Jim Feeley asked a question regarding an image I posted in a thread that was loosely about the H4n. I thought, instead of taking that thread completely off course I'd re-post the image here and answer the questions as best I could. Well... The bike setup didn't work as well as I thought, and so this isn't entirely a success story - but I was very glad I tried. Regarding samples, I'm travelling right now but I'll try to put some up in the New Year when I'm back. I ended up with a reasonably well isolated recorder so it worked out in that sense. The recorder in the image was also reversed to try to get the sounds of the rear of the bike. …

I have found a light and small solution for booming wireless with my TRX 900 and Schoeps CMIT. The 48V supply has been modified as it didn`t work with Schoeps in a previous version. Still bit more noisy than hardwired and not as open and rich like on cable but good for the moments when I have to go wireless ... more detailed: http://www.jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1295.0;attach=454 Matthias

I finally put together my new cart and put it to the test this past week. It has been performing extremely well. I kept it simple yet effective. But it will constantly receive upgrades. The build process never ends. I will post better pics soon. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome. First mod will be to build a battery tray to properly hold the Pelican battery. Next up will be some lights. Sammy Huen

Here is a concept for a Follow Cart based on the Bag Cart (1070mm x 710mm x 565mm HxWxD). It has 15u of rear storage and a further 2u at the front. It has a cover that unscrews and rises up to become a work surface (as shown in the CAD drawings). The cart would be compatible with all of SOUNDCART's universal accessories however would not fold as the other cart designs do. I welcome your thoughts and opinions...
