It's a metal plate on top of a speaker - the plate resonates at each octave, pushing the sand to the parts where there is the least vibration. You might wanna turn down volume but watch what happens at the highest octaves..

There is an article in the Huffington Post yesterday, about Jim Henson's short Time Piece. This was my first time seeing this piece, and I found it quite fascinating. Relatively new to JW site. Fantastic forum and no SPAM! I've spent the last few days looking at most all the 'images' and reading comments, like a book you can't put down. By the way "Being There" is an all time favorite movie of mine and my friends, love to hear more set stories of shooting it. Thought I'd post a pic of a wet audio situation I just faced in Key Biscayne, Miami. Was asked to mic a couple of jet pack flyers in flight over Biscayne Bay. I ended up getting booked to play a solo acoustic at Pete's Candy Store for a show tomorrow, and with only two days to promote the show I decided to make a little video to show to friends who hadn't heard me play yet. I've used my bag gear to record musicians on set before, but this was the first time I had used it to record my own stuff... but that's mostly because I just went through a long phase where I wasn't strumming as much as normal. I've attached a photo of the bench at the Pentagon September 11 Memorial dedicated to the memory of a member of the DC production community, Jerry Moran. Jerry worked as the shop manager at the Washington Source for Lighting and occasional freelance jib operator in the '90's. Ironically, he left the film production world to work for a teleconferencing contractor for the US Navy so he could have a more regular schedule and better job security in 1998 or so. He was working in wedge one of the Pentagon on the morning of September 11, 2001. Not sure if this could be a start of a cool thread or not. But I was working in an old local recording studio, apparently where, Prince penned Purple Rain. Anyways, when we walked into the control room this lovely, classic console was inside, and I was really impressed with how clean it still was. The head engineer said he couldn't pass it up, and says it sounds fantastic. What caught my eye, was the Channel section and the EQ switches(not knobs), with the ubiquitous Lexicon alongside, in it's familiar place on the desk.
