Cologne Cart 1 2

As an homage to Matthias Richter's long running thread, Berlin cart, I have called this one Cologne cart. This is to show my cart, but I would also like to encourage other Cologne based mixers, to show off their carts here, too. So my cart is based on two ABS cases. I am in no way a skilled handy worker, so this is not exactly beautiful craftsmanship and everything is improvised as I go along. I do try to think things through before building them, but more often than not that meant solving one problem while creating two new ones. All the parts are readily available at home depot or such like, except for the motors which I found on Ebay. I was so impresse…

Hi, I just watched a short documentary made in 1950 by Henri-georges Clouzot who was planning to shoot a documentary in Brazil. In this short he presents the project and film his team. We can briefly see some equipment from that era. You can watch it here: https://www.cinematheque.fr/henri/film/122297-brasil-henri-georges-clouzot-1950/ One shot really intrigued me. He presents his sound recordist who seems to be using an optical recorder that he has brought in his appartement. I have never seen these and would be curious to know more about it if anyone have some clues about what it could be:

Humans never could have taken to the oceans without rope: no string, no mariners. Photo by Stephen Barnes/Transport/Alamy Stock Photo String is far more important than the wheel in the pantheon of inventions. by Ferris Jabr March 6th, 2018 | 2,500 words, about 13 minutes https://www.hakaimagazine.com/features/the-long-knotty-world-spanning-story-of-string/ The void opened suddenly—a negative space where there had once been sand. Kathryn Bard stuck her hand straight through the gap and felt nothing but air. It just kept going. She considered her surroundings: a slope of windblown sand near a terrace of fossilized coral 700 meters inland fr…

Saw this photo and thought the set-up could be ideal for recording lengthy oral history interviews. The goal is to encourage a relaxed conversational style with interviewees that may be intimidated by too much production (i.e., getting wired with a lav and/or sitting under an overhead boom rig). The set-up in this photo seems less intimidating with the mics placed off the eye line and a little further away (maybe 18"). My questions are: 1) What specific microphones would you use for this set-up? I'm assuming these are cardioid (super-cardioid) condensers with a pick-up pattern to allow some shifting of seated interview subjects? 2) Given the goal sta…

Watch out for those 🕵️♀️ http://sandlab.cs.uchicago.edu/jammer/ The video seems broken, the German tech news site Golem has it. https://video.golem.de/audio-video/24095/wearable-microphone-jammer.html However, the video is less interesting than the question, how this works... and on what mics.

Jim Feeley asked a question regarding an image I posted in a thread that was loosely about the H4n. I thought, instead of taking that thread completely off course I'd re-post the image here and answer the questions as best I could. Well... The bike setup didn't work as well as I thought, and so this isn't entirely a success story - but I was very glad I tried. Regarding samples, I'm travelling right now but I'll try to put some up in the New Year when I'm back. I ended up with a reasonably well isolated recorder so it worked out in that sense. The recorder in the image was also reversed to try to get the sounds of the rear of the bike. …

In 1973 I got to visit the Gunsmoke set. The executive producer was John Mantley, the episode was called "The Widowmaker". One day location, one day studio. The whole main street of Dodge City filled a soundstage complete with dirt floor and forced perspective scenes at each end of the town with the road leading out of town to the right so they could ride horses and wagons (buckboards?) thru the main street and of course stage high noon shootouts. Unfortunately I can't find the studio day photos but here are some of the location day. Gunsmoke 1 Camera & Sound Van reduced.tif Note the Nagra III and mono RCA mixer with 2 VU meters, one showing input level…

Because no bag is on the market for the Cantar X3 yet.... I designed my own. With a "little" help from professionals as 'De Herrieboerderij' aka Kees Schouten in Amsterdam witch helped me with the aluminium frame, and a my new friend Andrea Monti from The Guild of Holland, he made the leather parts. Because the AudioLTD rack3 with Rx2040's, like almost all receivers, is to high I made a little frame to hang a front bag from. This front bag, when sitting on the ground, blocks some faders/knobs/buttons. But when I carry the bag it drops 4 cm, and everything is accessible again. The two leather straps can be released quickly and all mic and line in's become accessible. Her…
