My loose wheelchair ramps served their purpose, but they were the last remaining difficult step for my load/unloads each day. I decided to have a Link Ramp installed! -D

Cool photo posted on Facebook Marriott at Beehive Cottage, Moreton, Essex (1966). Stephen Peter "Steve" Marriott (30 January 1947 – 20 April 1991) English musician, songwriter and frontman of two notable rock and roll bands, spanning over two decades. Marriott is remembered for his powerful singing voice which belied his small stature, and for his aggressive approach as a guitarist in mod rock bands Small Faces (1965–1969) and Humble Pie (1969–1975 and 1980–1981). Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces. In later life Marriott became disillusioned with the music industry and turned his back …

A slideshow that I did to honor Taylor Hackford and our work together on "An Officer and a Gentleman". I gave this to Taylor to use at the CAS Awards Show which we all know he did not use. Instead, Taylor rambled on for 40 minutes longer than he was supposed to talk, got Crew Chamberlain's name wrong (called him Drew), and secured for himself a place in the record books for the longest running acceptance speech in history. In any case, I like this little slideshow (pictures provided by my wife Carol who was the Unit Still Photographer on the movie). Hope you enjoy it, or not, I think it's pretty cool.

This old photograph print is hanging in an equipment room at work. Any of our venerable archivists know the Sound Mixer or film?

I finally put together my new cart and put it to the test this past week. It has been performing extremely well. I kept it simple yet effective. But it will constantly receive upgrades. The build process never ends. I will post better pics soon. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome. First mod will be to build a battery tray to properly hold the Pelican battery. Next up will be some lights. Sammy Huen

I think this is a cool photo Simon posted on Facebook (not sure it would ever show up here). So, here it is: (I hope he remembered to disconnect whatever cable that is before they got underway).

I wiped out on a logging road 35 minutes before I was supposed to leave for breakfast. So I set up my cart and my fabulous boom op Blair Dykes sat in the chair while I visited emergency. Best,

For those who know him, and even more important, those that don't, Vilmos says a bunch in a short interview about the art of film craft. It shouldn't take long to read, even for non readers... I changed the wheels on my cart before the last movie but discovered while working that the wheels I had used (12" motorized wheelchair flat-free tires) were not a good choice. So, after wrapping the job, I completely re-designed the wheel and axle assembly, going back to the inboard style arrangement I had done on several of my older carts. Going the inboard route it is true that some stability may be compromised (though I have never really found that to be a problem) but the benefits are many. The overall width of the cart is just the frame of the cart, not the wheels, keeping it so that the cart fits nicely even in very narrow doors. Also, I can use pretty standard han…

I have yet to find a director that wants to use the comtek pouch with the comtek, but it works great for a wireless boom.

Pretty cool on many fronts. Here's just one: "The only necessary interlocking device to other synchronous equipment is the A.C. line."

Here are some pictures of the new Music Cart I have built for the next Cameron Crowe movie. Named "Magic Bus II" since the first cart I built for Cameron was sometimes referred to as Magic Bus. As you know, Cameron uses music all day long --- he actually directs with music so his music cart plays a major role during our shooting day. This one uses a TeachLogic PA speaker, similar in design to the typical Anchor portable (DC powered) speaker. The TeachLogic PA-800 has what I feel to be a much better sound, uses a Nickel Metal Hydride battery (much lighter than SLA), and is very well built. It also has various accessory modules that can be installed: a CD player (with b…

Here is my cart that I have been using for almost 12 years. Only thing that changed over the years is the gear in it and modifications to accomadate changes. One picture shows working in the van and the other out of the van.
