Hello everyone, I am planning a major rework of the user interface of Boom Recorder. How does one feel about me separating the tape transport, metadata and meter bridge into three windows. I want to do this, so I can make Boom Recorder into a video recorder as well. It would be more logical to have a meter bridge and a video window at the same time. But not everyone needs a meter bridge, not everyone needs a video window, and some need both. I've been talking to a producer about what is happening on the set with metadata. Especially interesting is that, on a low budget film at least, the script supervisor already is doing all the metadata reporting including wha…

Hello again, ladies and gentlemen! I just wanted to announce here first that we just released our latest app, TV Timecard. To keep it simple, this app is designed to give you the fastest, most reliable and least cumbersome interface to keep track of your hours while on set. It's specifically meant to NOT keep up with your rates and perform other calculations that you either don't need or don't want to do. So if you're looking for something that does everything the accounting department would do, look elsewhere. Some people do want that, but I didn't. I built this out of frustration in dealing with existing timecard apps, "Notes" and other methods of keeping track of my ho…

Word seems to be traveling fast, so I’ll go ahead and announce that Coffey Sound was purchased today, and is now a Trew Audio company. For the last several years, Coffey Sound has been owned by Telecorp, which also owned media related companies primarily involved with postproduction and unscripted (reality) television. As many here on the JWSound group can understand, a company with a niche as specific as sound for film and video production serves the industry best when driven first by a love and understanding of the craft and those who work in it, with the pursuit of profit being a necessary but distant second. With today’s purchase, this Los Angeles business will …

Hello everyone, I have released the latest Boom Recorder, version 8. This is the first time I will charge for an update to Boom Recorder and I will try to get it on Apple's App Store. It is not yet in the app store, but if you like you can now buy Boom Recorder 8 from my own website: http://www.vosgames.nl/ One last thing, version 8 will only work on OS X Lion. As I mentioned before the biggest changes are in the meter bridge, with vertical meters and maximum peak meter. I have made a new version of the SU cart. I have called this Series 2. Series 1 - has the full shelf in the bottom module higher up, so a drawer can be placed under it. Series 2 - has the full shelf abt middle, so a sliding laptop shelf can be mounted well above it. I have made one large bottom box with an open front. It easily accomodates a Pelican 1300 case (typical battery case). Rack strips go all the way down the front and a rack panel can be attached to secure the front of the bottom box. Many people, many times, ask me to put rack strips on a VK cart. Its design parameters dont suit it... So I now also make either SU's with a depth of 500mm instea…

Recorded earlier this month, popular Japanese singer Yamazaki Masayoshi recorded his live concert using TASCAM gear for the 2nd year running. Last year used 24 channels of UH-7000 and DA-3000 at 192kHz, this year he used 24 channels of HS-P82s for a more compact system. The high resolution mix is available for purchase online in Japan. Please let me introduce yout to the newest member of the Ambient Clockit Network family: First of all, it has Clockit Time Code generator of course and is made out of machined aluminum. Except for the sync signal output, it comprises the full functionality of its big brother, including ACN (Ambient Clockit Network) support, metadata transfer and logging. This network capabilities also allow the Tiny Lockit to be a fully functional Timecode Transceiver. Therefor it is combining the stability of an Ambient Clockit Generator with the flexibility of a wireless TC system but without the fear of dropouts. In addition it also has most features of the ALL601, such …

Greetings, My name is Thomas Popp and I am a sound professional currently working in Los Angeles as a union member of I.A.T.S.E. 695. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a lot of you on many different movies, TV shows, and commercials. I’m writing to introduce my new book called Down to the Wire. The book goes through many tips, tricks, and advice on the ins and outs of wiring talent that only a professional working in hands-on situations can suggest. Hello everyone, I am planning on releasing Boom Recorder version 6 this weekend, after doing some test to see if everything works as expected and seem to be stable using my system. The new version will include a couple of new time sources, including time-of-day, which a lot of people seem to be waiting for (weird how such a request come from multiple customers at the same time). An other feature was created by cleaning up some of the ring buffer code, Boom Recorder will now keep the pre record buffer, even during playback. This cleanup also solves some issues with the recording indicator, which sometimes was flickering off and on during recording, which does not instil…

For the different manufactures out there, how have you decided when to stop development on one product and move your resources to developing a new one? Sales of old unit slow down? New technology becomes available? Feed back from users? You want a new revenue stream? Competition from a competitor? You get bored? As soon as you get a product out do you start thinking about the next iteration, improvements, variations, or does that not happen until the current product is showing its age? I suppose it varies for each company and is probably a combination of multiple factors, but I was wondering if any of you care to chime in. Possibly with examples. I don't thin…
