Last year K-Tek showed a new product for the DSLR at NAB market called "Norbert". It solves the issues of mounting things like lockit boxes, wireless recievers, and a myriad of other devices to a DSLR camera. Here's a link: http://ktekbooms.com/norbert/ I'm mentioning this because there was a thread about a little lockit box device that would put timecode and audio into a DSLR camera, and there was mention that "where does all this stuff get mounted?". I thought I would just mention it here. I know it's not specifically an audio thing, but if camera people are asking how to solve this problem...well...here it is.

As we transition deeper into the world of CF cards, pro audio dealers such as ourselves find themselves in a difficult position. Our customers need CF cards, would more often than not like to patronize their pro dealer of choice to get them but, find that pricing from online sites or big box retailers is significantly better than they can get from us. Specialty retailers such as ourselves, do not buy in the massive quantities that a Fry's or others who can who move huge numbers of them to the consumer world at large do. I currently offer name brand CF cards as a convenience for my customers, and they know they are paying a little bit more to save themselves a trip elsew…

The TRX900LTS two audio channel bodypack transmitter with recording and remote control will be featured at IBC. This is a two channel version of our new TRX900LT transmitter. It should open up many new possibilities for the use of wireless microphones in any application where a stereo image will help an audience feel they are in the middle of the action on screen. The unit features two microphone preamps with LAV power, two audio channel 100% digital RF transmission, Zax-net remote control and 2 channel recording with time code. The unit is a perfect match for the QRX100 2 channel receiver that can receive 4 channels of audio from two seperate TRX900LTS transmitters. …

It's really cool. And really expensive. So, we went ahead and bought one so you can just rent it. Here is some factory verbiage to chew on: The SuperCMIT 2U uses unique digital signal processing that recognizes sound energy arriving from various directions, and determines whether that sound has a discrete, persistent direction of arrival or not. It uses this information to suppress diffuse sound and to focus on discrete sound. This allows the “reach” of the shotgun microphone to be increased significantly, without causing the usual sound-coloring artifacts of interference tubes. The SuperCMIT is the first microphone in the world to combine such high directivity with…

Hello everyone, I have been working a little bit on the new version of Boom Recorder. Someone who uses MADI had asked me for complete input and output routing and mixing. In this new version it is possible to assign one or more inputs for each channel, and attenuating each assignment separately. Setting the attenuation level is currently only possible using AppleScript. Currently attenuation can changed with increments of 1 dB, between 0 and 254 dB. Is this accurate enough for mixing? Cheers, Take

We are really excited to announce that K-Tek is hosting an open house at our factory on Sunday March 8th. We'll have food, tasty beverages, an interesting panel discussion, factory tour, and time to hang out with the K-Tek staff and ask questions and see how things are done. This is a great opportunity for boom operators to get together and see how and why we make what we make and talk about the art of booming and how it has evolved over the years. We'll also show you some new stuff! We are arranging transportation from the LA area down to our factory in Vista, CA and then back up to the LA area. Here's the important thing. Space is limited, so we have an R…

I challenge any bag or accesory manufacturer to make a waterproof bag cover that is light, packs small, deploys while on the run and can actually operate the mixer with ease under it. Thinking of a backpack style rain cover that has elastic ir draw cord around it that covers the front and sides of the bag with a clear viynl top flap that you can easily get hand under to operate. Eg. Petrol clear top organizer bag cover that has an elastic wrap around ripstop bag for the front and sides.

The Portabrace AH-3H Heavy Load Harness has been redesigned. I will be posting pictures of this new harness next week. The new harness had some significant changes made. The padded material is now much more form fitting and contours to the users shape much better, providing a much more comfortable fit. The harness adjustability has also been changed and improved. No longer does the harness have an adjustable velcro shoulder section in the center of the back. The harness adjusts vertically on the chest and also below the arms, changing the position of the metal rings, enabling the user to lower the weight of the audio rig onto the heavy duty belt. The …

There are some photos around here of the belt clips I have been using on my Zaxcom transmitters. I have updated the design and am having them machine made so the quality and consistency is much better than the hand bent wireforms I was making. The clip has also been moved up on the transmitter to allow access to the batteries without removing the clip. The clips are now available through your regular dealer, or through me directly. These are designed to fit the TRX, ERX, and ZFR series products. I haven't tested all of the Zaxcom lines, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Dear vendors, Let me start by saying... this isn't your job. I know that. But we need a favor from you. We're being asked to do something that isn't our job either, getting bids against ourselves for the studio "competitive bid forms". For some reason, as the CBS form reads, "The employee will be required to submit three written bids from competing vendors." I bet they don't ask Panavision to call VER or Keslow or HDRentals to get bids. The office staff do that. And on some shows the office staff will do ours too. Today, Trew and W.B. both refused to give me a number. LSC didn't return my call. Hey, I didn't like making the call. I have a solution …

Hello All, This topic is being discussed on other forums and Facebook pages, so I am duplicating this announcement here on JWSound to give it proper community awareness. On Dec 17th Trew Audio received notice from the Certification Bureau of Industry Canada that there are no IC approvals for Zaxcom wireless transmitters, and therefor their sale and import in Canada are prohibited. ("IC" is the radio approval agency of Canada, similar to the FCC in the US). It's not that approvals had been denied; certification had never been applied for. Sorry to keep everyone wondering what was going on, but I decided to delay a public explanation until we knew what Zaxcom's inten…

As this is my first post on this blog, I hope you can all bear with me! Energy One Electronics is a direct from manufacturer battery distributor from Phoenixville, Pa.. We currently offer two LiFePo4 battery packs that I think could be of use in the portable Sound Production markets. one is a 12v10Ah version (spec sheet attached), the other a 12v7.6Ah unit, specifically designed to meet demands for a unit for international travel without having to be listed as Class 9 Hazmat. Both units are IATA certified, and have BMS controllers built in. We also are developing an external power gauge designed specifically for this chemistry, as most current gauges wil…

Last year we started shipping the KBLT35 boom case, and it has been a good seller. Many people asked us to make a longer version, so we did. It is the KBLT52. It can hold any boom pole that has a minimum collapsed length of 52 inches or less. It's pretty much just a straight up longer version of the KBLT35. These are available right now. The price is $235. Contact your local dealer in order to purchase.

Fred from New Zealand has just designed & had made a new 2 part cover for his VK cart. It allows the modules to be separated with the cover on. What can I say - this cover easily upstages the cart it was made for - congratulations Fred. While you are admiring the cover, take a look at his backyard - envy. envy.envy. Rob Stalder
