01v96 USB issues...

Hello all, I was running studio manager software between an IbookG4 and the 01v96 and everything was working well... I needed to do a bit of spring cleaning and decided to upgrade the os on my G4 to Tiger. My install was an erase and start from scratch... Everything else seems to work fine and the software and files I decided to transfer (from dvd backups) work well. The only issue at this point is after downloading Yamaha's Driver, Studio Mgr Software, and editor... I cannot get the 'puter to see the board on the USB bus. I have queried the 01v96yahoo group and tried a few hours (3498.4) of BS getting them to talk, so far no luck... I am wondering if anyone is…

Anyone know what steps I need to take to get Metacorder to work with two MOTU Travelers @ once? Gallery sent me a cryptic email about needing to search the Apple docs about OSX device aggregation, which I don't know anything about, and couldn't find anything about specifically on Apple's site. Metacorder can see both Travelers (linked by FW), but seems to be asking me to choose between them (and the built in) as opposed to using them both, as in Digital Performer etc.. Philip Perkins

I am trying to see if there happens to be some sort of AD converters of high quality (like Apogee for example) that accept line in, and output in spdif or adat optical without having to actually connect it to a computer to set up the output settings. The purpose for this is quite simple really: I have a great computer recording system with great mic pres and converters, but a studio I am doing a lot of work at needs to run their own system, but the converters are taking the life out of the sound, even when I bring my mic pres along with me. Their interface has spdif and adat optical, but their computer is super out of date, and I would like to be able to bring along …

Anyone? Is it possible to take the SSD out of my current 2012 MBP (the computer is having some problems, nothing to do with the OS or the HDD) and simply R&R the HDD in another 2012 MBP, fire it up and have it be good to go? I'd keep my current MBP as a backup. I think I can buy a pretty mint replacement 2012 MBP for cheaper than I could have my current MBP repaired. Yes, I know I can swap the drives and then do a restore from Time Machine, but since I am going to open both machines up anyway to swap my 16GB of RAM out for the 8GB in the replacement, it would be easy to swap the drives at the same time. And yes, I know that the new computer …

Does anyone know if it would be possible to use a SD 7 series as a firewire interface for boom recorder or metacorder? I know it wouldn't be a practical use of the 7 series, just wondering if its possible. Maybe with a firmware update since it can now interface with external drives? Pass through mode or something.

I saw this in another post and rather than hijacking that one I thought it might be better to start a new topic. Apologies if you feel I was wrong in that assumption. Anyway, I've wanted to use my 702T in the same way. It only has 2 channels so SPDIF should work right? What cable/adaptors do I need to make this work? I have a Hosa Digital-Transfer Coax cable which has the RCA-style ends. (male on both ends). Do I just need a BNC to female RCA? I want this to go into the SPIDF input on my 002. Last question: am I limited to 48k/24bit/stereo? Or can I do 96k/24bit/mono? Thanks!

Following up my two-channel question with an eight channel version: I am looking to expand my track count and was wondering what some of you guys are using. I am looking for a single rack space unit what takes eight 1/4" line ins (d-subs welcome), and can output to adat optical without any use of a computer to control it. Essentially, I have a bunch of very high end mic pres, and would like to rack them up with a converter (preferably mid to high end) that can output adat optical, so that I can move from studio to studio and be able to interface digitally with their system without having to deal with breakout snakes and patch bays, and since most people/studios …

Hi there. This is a great discussion group. I've been dropping by to read the posts now and then, but recently decided to take the plunge and join. My background is in music recording and production - studio and live - so I am a big fan of recording digitally directly into a computer using an interface and DAW program. But for doing location work it's sometimes impractical to set up a laptop and rack recording gear, so I have a couple of field recorders for when I am working "out of a bag". Here is my question... I am interested in being able to offer time code enabled work flows to my clients. BoomRecorder looks like a very cool application for tracking …

I was, once upon a time, an enthusiastic Cool Edit Pro user. Around the time I was switching over to Mac's, Adobe acquired Cool Edit, and it continued as a Windows only editor. I switched to Pro Tools long ago, but I was excited to see the Beta release of Audition for Mac today. I haven't had much time to delve into the developments that have taken place over the past years, but I'm super excited as this was once a very featured piece of software and I suspect it is more powerful now! I don't think I'll be switching back from PT any time soon (especially with the developments in 9), but it's always good to keep an eye on the options. The beta release is availa…

I remember (maybe 5 or 6 years ago) when I used Adobe Audition, I recall it being an awesome editing system except it didn't feature SMPTE timecode at that time. I'm wondering if Audition these days now feature it. And if so, can the program downconvert files from Bwf to MP3s while preserving the timecode on the file? Any info about the program or any other programs that can do what I'm inquiring about would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I am PC based! Thanks!

Adobe has announced new version of Soundbooth. From Macworld site: "Last year when Adobe jumped into the Macintosh-audio editing business with its release of the Intel-only Soundbooth CS3 (), it did so with something less than both feet. Designed for those who didn’t require (or wouldn’t comprehend) a full-blown digital audio workstation (DAW) application, Soundbooth erred on the side of ease-of-use. It offered an intuitive interface, solid noise filtering, and a handy AutoCompose feature for generating customized background music. But it lacked the kind of more-advanced features—multitrack editing and the ability to place more than one AutoComposed score in a pr…

Gday, Sorry for the probably dumb question but I am trying to work out if it is possible to go AES out of my SD702t into the AES (XLR) inputs of my Lynx Aurora 8 to basically see if I can use the 702 at pres for my studio when needed but im getting lost in the SD manual is it just referring to +4 and -10 with the pro and consumer settings? thanks and sorry again for the dumb question.

Hi all, I am searching for an (not so expensive) format converter from 8 channel AES to USB, or 8 channel AES to ADAT. The only thing I found in www is from RME. http://www.rme-audio.de/products_adi_192_dd.php but this thing costs about 1.200€ ... I wana use my Aaton Cantar for computer recording and use it as an AD converter.

Hi all, hope everybody's well. Can anyone recommend a simple, small, lightweight interface that would accept 8-12 channels of AES audio from an external source and output to USB or Thunderbolt? It does not need to do anything else. Thanks in advance if you've got any ideas...

In my increasingly desperate attempts to get yet more inputs for my under-powered Metacorder rig (G4 1.5 GHz), I hit on the idea of adding inputs via the USB2 port, since I really can't bog the FW (400) bus any more than I am already. I've done a test that looks good adding 2 tracks from a USB interface to the rig I already had (22 tracks, thus 24 tracks in record 24/48), and am reticent to go farther (until I'm even MORE desperate, that is)--the test is 90 min continuous record. Has anyone tried using combos of FW and USB2 input devices with Metacorder or Boom Recorder or anything else on a Mac laptop? Yes, I know I need a new computer. Tell my family and loan of…

Not sure if this is the right area to post in but I'm looking for info on the AKAI LPD8 midi controller http://www.akaipro.com/lpd8 If someone could point me in the direction on "how to map midi controllers to wave files" would be great. What I'm trying to do is turn this controller (and my Mac Book Pro) into a "360 Shortcut". I would like to assign wave files to the pads to play them as sound effects or even music for playback situations on set. I have Pro Tools but have never dealt with the midi side of things. Thanks Andy

For some years I've used the BWF Timecoder mac application by One-N Corp to create audio timecode tracks in ProTools to use in on-set playback. It was much easier than the various hardware methods of creating a recorded timecode track to match session timecode. This audio file could be re-imported into the session for easy play-out to a slate without needing Sync hardware on set. Unfortunately this software hasn't been updated for quite a while and won't even install on Mac's running Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Is anyone here aware of something current for mac, that does the same job? cheers, nick

I have an aging Mackie Onyx 1620 in my cart, with a FW card, which connects to a MacBook Pro. It has served me well for a few years, but I'm having issues with a few mute and solo buttons. I've taken it in for service, but the issues persist. Chances are, it would cost close to what it's worth now ($450) to have those buttons repaired/replaced, so I'm looking for a board to replace it. I need 8-12 input channels, at least two submixes or aux outputs and talkback, as well as FW or USB connectivity for Boom Recorder. I've looked at and considered the following mixers: Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 AI Allen & Heath QU-16 Yamaha LS9-16 (not sure it has ta…

Has anybody seen these demos of the NVidia RTX Voice AI noise reduction App? It seems to be a game changer for eliminating all types of background noise from a Microphone input. Sorry all you Mac fanatics, it currently needs an NVidia RTX video card and Windows 10 to work. It is in beta and free right now but check out these video demos.

After what seemed like a long wait, I understand that Ambient has finally released their new Master clock. It's much smaller size and it's ability to also generate word clock at all standard sampling rates, including pull up and pull down, should make it very useful for Metacorder, Boom Recorder, etc. User's Manual attached. Since I got a Mac Mini 2011 I can no longer use my MBox 1 with it. For the occasional voice or FX recording I do at home I am contemplating which USB/firewire interface to get - then I thought, why don't I just use my Sound Devices MM-1 (that has a very good preamp) and go analog directly into the Mac Mini's line in. I tried it quickly yesterday and it sounded OK but am wondering if there is a downside to this? I'm curious what others think about the Mac Mini's A/D converters' quality?

I'm looking for an Android app that will at the very least show waveform and will play polyphonic wav files (from Zaxcom or Sound Devices recorders). It would be nice if it could also edit, but not necessary. Has anyone found one?

I read about Take's work on Mirage recorder but was wondering about just getting a video monitor feed in BR and not worry about recording it. The PSC Miranda prototype http://www.professionalsound.com/Catalog/miranda%20cart%20closeup.htm has a cool screen layout, is there a way to incorporate video monitoring in BR without hogging resources? And/or are there any progs being used to monitor on the mac? Just trying to shrink the cart whenever possible

Without meaning to, I topped my Metacorder "time-in-record" record last night at an HBO multicam shoot (SF Opera House, "Youth Speaks Poetry Slam" finals). 16 tr 24/48: 2 hrs 40 min. I didn't really want files that big but at the show start/roll-everything time there was still a line of people waiting to get in that ran all the way around the block, so people kept popping on stage and almost starting the show, riffing--you know the scene. All went well except for a DJ who decided to bust his sound-check feed levels by about 30db when the show started--the PA guy and I scrambled for the first few minutes but things settled down after that. The SF Opera House has a Scho…
