Can anyone give me some information as to what this sort of interference might be? (Attached are two screenshots from a brief iZotope RX-5 sample of a session I recorded last night. One shows the interference as a somewhat continuous (there is some amplitude modulation) frequency at 1kHz, with overtones at 2, 3, and 4 kHz. There are additional harmonics that get quieter as the frequency goes up and so are difficult to see on this example. The second screenshot is the same sample, using a feature of RX-5 that allows one to select the fundamental frequency, and then select for the overtones too. Here , it is easy to see additional harmonics at 5, …

Hello All,I'm putting together a small rack-mount kit and need a USB audio interface for it. I bought an M-Audio M-Track 8 but there were some issues with audio bleeding between tracks, probably due to the signal being too hot coming in, so I'm looking for a replacement. The inputs will be Lectro Wireless, Computer Audio, and audio split from an HDMI input. What I need are:8x or more Pre-Amps (At least 6 of which are on the rear of the unit)USB 2.0 or 3.0 interfaceRack Mountable (preferably 1ru)Hardware Controlled (I.E. Knobs) I think I've primarily been looking at music oriented interfaces so far so I may need help finding something more capable of handling the …

Just a plug from a satisfied customer for Reaper, as a basic but pretty deep computer audio editor etc for location work. I just got a new location mac laptop, and didn't want to spend the $ for ProTools 12 for it (req. for El Cap). Reaper is $60 for the lowbudg license, works pretty much exactly the same PC vs Mac, and I was able to figure most basic things out pretty fast without a manual. Cockos improves it all the time and there is a huge community of users, forums, videos etc to help you. The "higher" functions of a DAW like PT (surround, heavy mix auto, conforms etc ) are probably possible in Reaper but I'm not likely to go there. I just needed a multitrack rep…

I'm having a bit of a re-jig of the TV/sound system and using some active monitors for a surround setup. In order to get all the decoding done without a computer I'm going to need a surround preamp/decoder box. In order to play back things from the computer it'll need to go in over HDMI. I'm wondering whether anyone's run multichannel outputs from their HDMI port on their computer and how well the drivers talk to DAW software? Any latency issues (although I expect I'll only use it for playback)

Hi all, hope everybody's well. Can anyone recommend a simple, small, lightweight interface that would accept 8-12 channels of AES audio from an external source and output to USB or Thunderbolt? It does not need to do anything else. Thanks in advance if you've got any ideas...

Hi, I am seriously thinking about doing some major development for Boom Recorder and start working toward version 9. I am thinking of getting rid of the patch bay and creating a better user interface for this function; routing inputs to outputs and files. There are several reasons for getting rid of the patch-bay and maybe what is shown on the main window: The current interface is cumbersome when working with over a hundred channels. The storage of the patch-bay data is large and is hampering the possibility of having multiple configuration files. I want to increase the number of channels above and beyond 256. The CPU usage is higher than it needs to be (even though i…

Hi all, I just got a Digi 002 to work with BR and wanted to confirm that it works at 24/48 in stand alone mode? I assume that using BR will not allow me to configure the Digi 002 for 24/96? The Digi 002 is sending prefader in stand alone mode (question being if the limiter can be applied before the signal reaches the BR)? Thanks Richard

Greetings all, Modified the long html report that ships with Boom recorder. Changed it to more resemble something that say Wave Agent might produce.. The XML is tricky getting to the names for each track and haven't figured out a way to put them horizontal.. Anyway link directly below is an example of how it looks and included a link to the files needed to generate the report.. http://louisianafilmsound.com/boomrecorder/SoundReport.html Download the archive and put files into whatever folder you want, then point BR to this folder Archive that contains the modified .css and .xsl files http://louisianafilmsound.com/boomrecorder/ReportTemplate.zip Mark …

Asked to bid on a video shoot. Recording multitrack as the bands play live to video (3 camera). Much like the "Sun Studio Sessions" or "ACL". I have a studio friend who records live bands with a laptop PC based software (not sure what) and a Behringer X32, I would provide the timecode with my 664 and feed to him, which he would put on a track. But I'm thinking of going the Boom Recorder (BR) with a Mackie Onyx 1640i mixer route. These are 'Bro' Country bands -all 4 piece with a singer or 2 so I should be fine with 16ch. 6 bands performing 1 song each. I deliver BWAV files the record label will do the post work. 99.999% of my work is Film -Television and video …

Gday, Sorry for the probably dumb question but I am trying to work out if it is possible to go AES out of my SD702t into the AES (XLR) inputs of my Lynx Aurora 8 to basically see if I can use the 702 at pres for my studio when needed but im getting lost in the SD manual is it just referring to +4 and -10 with the pro and consumer settings? thanks and sorry again for the dumb question.

Hi All, I'm looking to see if anyone is using Boom Recorder after installing OSX Yosemite. Or for that matter, Wave Agent, Pixnet/Pix 260, Dante Virtual SoundCard, Audacity etc. Any issues encountered by anyone so far? Just checking into it before I do the leap. Thanks, Scott Harber

Given the constraints, I've always been impressed with iOS audio compared to the competition in the same category (I suppose that could be Tom Holman's influence?) Anyway, with the Lightning connector being all digital audio, we're now seeing digital mics from the likes of Apogee, IK and Rode. IK also has a Lightning pre-amp that supplies phantom power to a XLR mic. All these products cost less than £200 each, so that probably says something about the A/D conversion. But given the law of diminishing returns and the economies of scale this is a category that I suspect will grow over time (at least until iOS and/or Lightning becomes obsolete - 10 years perhaps?). …

For some years I've used the BWF Timecoder mac application by One-N Corp to create audio timecode tracks in ProTools to use in on-set playback. It was much easier than the various hardware methods of creating a recorded timecode track to match session timecode. This audio file could be re-imported into the session for easy play-out to a slate without needing Sync hardware on set. Unfortunately this software hasn't been updated for quite a while and won't even install on Mac's running Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Is anyone here aware of something current for mac, that does the same job? cheers, nick

I'm in the market for an audio interface to record to, and play from, a current model 15" MacBook Pro (via USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt) and, in the nice but not essential category, a current model iPad (via an independent power source for the interface and the iPad camera connector kit). I already use a Sound Devices 7 series recorder. For the interface, I need only two mic inputs, and output to headphones and two speakers, so the obvious choice is a USBPre 2. However, there appear to be credible alternatives at similar or lower prices - for example, RME's Babyface, Universal Audio's new Apollo Twin (although it requires AC power, i.e. cannot be powered by the comput…

Premiere Pro 6 + Sennheiser Shotgun + FW Motu Ultralight = Voiceover Direct to Sequence?

Hello! I have been trying to get Premiere Pro 6 to recognize a Firewire mic input without success. Someone who put up a tutorial on getting Premiere to recognize his USB mic told me that with proper drivers this shouldn't be a problem, but Adobe says these FW mics are not supported. Does anyone know of a workaround? We have the Sennheiser shotgun and don't want to downgrade quality, but simply cannot get the Sennheiser to show in Audio Hardware. Any ideas? Thanks so much! Best, Alex

Hey! new to the site with a couple interesting question (that might interest both music producers and direct sound audiovisual recorders) As my love and effort also goes to music, it'd be ideal to use this equipment in a music context too, to be able to manage this pre-amps from a computer. (1st question: Do you know any mixer/recorder that is also an audio interface? doubt that exists but you never know..) / 2nd question: Do you know any audio interface that has 8 digital inputs?) Another choice would be to do some A/D . D/A (from mic to ZAXCOM) and then again A/D (from ZAXCOM to audio interface) thinking that might mean some quality loss.. 3rd and most important quest…

Hi, I have had a few customers where an audio edit application would corrupt Boom Recorder audio files during import. Always make a copy of audio files before importing them into any application. The audio edit application would move the audio in the file to earlier as it created a shorter audio header. If the audio edit application would crash or the import would fail half way through this process, the audio file would get corrupt. The header would be incorrect and therefor audio applications are not able to read in the file anymore. Also the audio in the file would get chopped up half way through and the two audio segments may also have a different align…

Anyone Using MOTU MicroBook II Link Here Hi I was looking to buy an Audio interface for my PC. This too is an all new endeavor for me. I was hoping to hear from some of the fine folks here about this topic. I want to hook a standard Condenser MIC which requires 48V Phantom Power to my PC. So what do you use to send MIC signals to your PC? Have you use or have you heard of the MOTU Microbook II? If so what are your thoughts? If no what are your thoughts? In my book, there is always room for information about alternative solutions. I am never against saving a few bucks as long as the quality isn't being negated. (I know you get what you pay …

Not A location sound question but I know some of you work in studios. I'm recording a studio album and thinking through best work flow. Haven't gotten an answer on other forums. Comp A is recording Drums with Cubase and a analogue stereo track from comp B Comp B is used as an "Ableton Instrument" and We'd like to record the automation with in those tracks. Can't run everything on comp A because all the mic pre's are in the mixing room and can't control Ableton from there(usb controllers). Also worried Ableton and Vst's will use to many resources. Both computers are newer maxed on ram and running separate hard drives. The Album is taking a jazz approach so ov…
