If I close the program and or eject the hard drives I am unable to successfully relaunch BR without creating new directories? The program worked flawlessly during the 30 day trial but since purchase this has happened repeatedly...at least 4 times this past week. Restarting Macbook pro does not factor. The only workaround is starting BR with drives undocked then creating new folders after the drives are reinstalled. Not optimal to do for just a lunch break Genie shutdown, etc I'm mirroring using 1 FW500GB and 1 USB250GB with BR 7.22 / 2G RAM Again, for a 18 day shoot during trial period seamless on/off cycling Any other experiences or fixes? Please advise

I am doing some test with Boom recorder (BR) for a shoot and I have experienced some minor issues. My set-up is MacBook Pro with Mbox-Mini recording onto the internal drive also mirrored on an external firewire 800 drive as a back-up. It happens often that BR is telling methat the recording aborted when I am pressing the record button. It says: "could not open file 0 with file name ..., file exists" I have tried different thing and nothing seems to fix that issue, after one or two record files the same message reappears again. How to set-up a simple one wireless and one boom recorded into internal and external mirrored firewire hard disk?

Hi, I am seriously thinking about doing some major development for Boom Recorder and start working toward version 9. I am thinking of getting rid of the patch bay and creating a better user interface for this function; routing inputs to outputs and files. There are several reasons for getting rid of the patch-bay and maybe what is shown on the main window: The current interface is cumbersome when working with over a hundred channels. The storage of the patch-bay data is large and is hampering the possibility of having multiple configuration files. I want to increase the number of channels above and beyond 256. The CPU usage is higher than it needs to be (even though i…

I recently did a shoot with the boom recorder software, and upon listening to it after the shoot, it sounds all messed up. There is some sort of echo, and all kinds of clicking that is very much like static, but there was none of this going into the board. Could it be a sample rate issue? Can anything be done about it? I just looked at my settings, and one of them that had always been set at 48K was set at 44.1K, so this is what leads me to believe that it had been changed. I'm sure I'm going to hear about this soon, so I'd like to see if anyone has come across this before? I've done a dozen or so shoots with this software with no problems, so this is a new one on me. …

Boom recorder is a lot cheaper? Coffey Sound only sells MetaCorder. Anyone got a list of features vs. cost vs. usability? Thanks

Hi I am trying to put together a simple set-up with a boom into the sound devices 302 that goes into the mbox to record in boom recorder. Simple yes indeed but my am trying to adjust the 1k at 0Vu on the sound device with the boom recorder at -12 or -18 ddb but I can't because the mbox input levels are at the minumum and it peaks in boom recorder at 0dbfs. The only way I can reduce the level is to press the pad button at the back of the mbox but it's at -22.5dbsf so it is not accurate enough. I think I can attenuate the XLR output level on the 302. I'll try that for now and see...

Is there any bleed of time code onto another track if I am constantly jamming Boom Recorder? Should I skip a track between the time code and audio channel just in case?

Has anyone tried feeding Boom Recorder via Dante Virtual sound card ? It uses the Apple core audio so theoretically it should work ? Just wondering if anyone has tried it. Thanks.

Hi all, Just came off a project where I was recording up to 8 tracks on Boom Recorder and ran into a situation that I was sure about the best way to handle it. Some setups I had all 8 mics running, other times I only had 3-4 mics running. In these situations, do you reduce the number of tracks in Boom Recorder, or do you just continue to record 8 tracks, with most being blank? I opted for the blank tracks, because all they do is take up room on the DVD, and don't seem to hurt anything. To ensure post knew they were supposed to be blank, I labeled them all as "null", but wasn't sure if this was really the best way to go. How do all you multi-trackers out there ha…

i am interested in boomrecorder setups. i will be doing a show soon and am thinking of this for main recorder. If you use a macbook(not the pro) what is the setup since i think there is only the 1 firewire port( do you use a usb harddrive for backup?). i know that firewire external drive takes the load off the computer, but how are you plugging in the mixer? Also, whats the benefit of a mixer to something like a motu traveler as opposed to a mixer with firewire like the mackie onyx series, if there is a benefit. I will not have the budget for a cooper or any other top end mixer. How reliable is the system if you use the computer as dedicated recorder? any crashes? i…

Yes.. I've been operating with BR v7.25.1 the last 4 weeks after Take made a revision for an issue I had, massive help he was . Anyways... I'm having some problems with sync and some pretty bad drift between files recorded on the 702T and BR, let me quickly explain the set-up: 702T is the master TC clock outputting the TC signal and word clock to a Motu Traveler which in turn is connected to a MacBook Pro running BR v7.25.1. BR's sample rate and bit depth are set identical to what the 702T is, and BR is recognizing the TC signal and clocking perfectly to what the 702T is outputting. This should all ensure that files created from BR would sync to those created on t…

Greetings, Been a long supporter of Boom Recorder for many years.. love it! I found an internal problem with my Mackie Mixer, causing recordings to drift when they run long.. Apparently, a well known issue with the Mackie 1620i mixer.. So, I bit the bullet, went out and bought me a new Yamaha 01V96i. Trying to plug it all together.. And, I'm having some issues. I installed the Yamaha drivers, and the yamaha control software. The input/output comes up in my MIDI controls on my mac. I set up the routing to route the channels to the USB ports.. I launch BR, and set the preference 'Audio' to yahama input. But, I can't seem to get any a…

I just did some multitrack recording for a 3 camera doco shoot of the premier of a major new work by the Kronos Quartet at the Kasser Theatre at Montclair State Univ. in Montclair NJ. Due to the usual tedious exigencies of time and budget, I had to go directly from the airport (Newark) to the theatre, set up and start rolling, and then keep rolling for the next two and a half days as the performance came together in final run-throughs, a dress rehearsal, more run-throughs and the premier itself. Since it was the process of putting the piece together that interested the filmmakers (more even than the premier ) we needed to be rolling most of the time. To cover the large…

Greetings everyone, I had a Catastrophic fail on my Boom Recorder and Yamaha 01v96i fail last week, and I can't even begin to diagnose the troubles. First hour on set for the day, no troubles, no issues, everything working fine. Hour 3 now, and I noticed the Time Code on BR, going on and off once. So, I check the ISOs, and there is some distortion on the files. By Hour 5, I noticed the TC now just completely off and not being read by BR. So, I check the ISOs, and there's a lot more distortion now.. degrading as time goes by. I had to crap can the whole RB set up, and scramble to get a 788 put in place instead. Here's a sample file. I edited and sa…

I'd like to look into the little cheap netbook PCs for use in the field, and for recording when I only need a few tracks (like 6 max). One problem w/ this is the application--all the recording apps I know very well are Mac only. Is there still no PC equivalent to BR or MC? I don't need bells and whistles, but I do need time-stamping of files. Philip Perkins

I'm using a laptop for sync playback for music videos with the song in mono on channel one and timecode on channel two. I've been using Windows 98se and playing back with Sound Forge. The output comes from the computer's built-in headphones mini-jack. The setup works really well for this application. The computer is a ThinkPad with a 366mHz processor. I recently added a second ThinkPad as a backup. (Older laptops are dirt cheap -- ain't it great!) So, on the second laptop I decided to install a newer operating system only to discover something alarming. With Windows 2000 or Windows XP, there is a great deal of crosstalk between channels. Using either of these…

If i were running say a very small Dante network with 1 or 2 Audinate ADP-AES3-AU-2X2 AVIO AES3 to Dante end devices configurable via “Dante Controller”: • Encoding (audio bit depth) :16,24,32 For a very small closed network if I needed to set a mic pre where i couldn’t get to it later and use say a lower mic signal and my device outputs 24-bit AES3 If my Dante network is set to 32 encoding would that allow makeup gain after Dante to be any less noisy since the Dante transmitter & receiver would both use 32-bit ? Even best-case scenario in a anechoic chamber (quieter than a studio…) also does anyone know if Sound…

I don't remember if this was posted before but this product seems to be the best for powering your MacBook or MacBook Pro directly from Cart Power or Battery Supply --- far superior to any of the powering schemes that utilize inverters. It comes with a genuine Apple certified Mag-Safe connector. http://www.hyperdrive.com/HyperMac-Pure-DC-Car-Charger-for-MacBook-p/mbp-car.htm
