 The idea is like "Who I am today", but discussing the music in your life as a window to ones personality and how it influenced you in any way shape or form. I hope I am expressing his idea right. Why not, seems fun enough for a rainy day in Hollywood.

 Music has always been a main ingredient and love in my life. My father loved the big bands and swing music, so this is the 1st music I heard as a child. Growing up in the 50's n 60's in Southern California, rock and roll and surf music and Motown were on every radio in my world. I so loved it that I took up drums and formed a neighborhood garage band when I was 10. We weren't alone in Fullerton where I was born. This is the city where Leo Fender and his guitar and amp company "Fender" was started. We may of been the 3rd best band out of 9 or so bands that we knew of in town. We played at the Teen Center, Country Club, YMCA, the frat house at CSF, Sunny Hills H S and anywhere we could get a gig. So much fun to play for people after endless hours of rehearsal in our basement. I learned much about sound and even more about life and people. Looking back I can see that this was the seeds that grew into my chosen profession.

  I have been to many great concerts over the years and may post a list someday. I listen to all types of music today and I am always looking for new bands to enjoy. I have a small project studio and record bands and singer/songwriters all the time in what little spare time I get. I still play the drums and my band, "Pappy n da Pacemakers" are now the 103rd best band in Fullerton.:-)

I remember the shock when I learned that R&D in AKG had been disbanded because, it seems, Samsung was only interested on the AKG brand for their "Samsung by AKG" stuff. Since Austrian Audio was created they have been launching very good products. (I haven't tried any of their microphones but a trusted friend did and he was really impressed).

Tiny Microphones, Huge Presence

Wireless & Induction Kitchen

Some sort info's: Wireless was Sennheiser G3 (626 MHz - 688 MHz) and G2 (780 MHz - 822 MHz). Lavaliers was DPA 4061. I know, 780 MHz - 822 MHz isn't very good here; but usable. The kitchen was without any extra furniture, so the whole system (below glass surface) was expsosed (not visible to camera of course).

When the chef was turned on the kitchen for cooking; wireless went crazy, both of them. The sound was something like huge noise gate, plus extreme denoise, plus extreme compression. Like RF swallow into black hole (use your imagination).

I did everything from my side; changing frequencies, changing lavaliers, changing everything with all combinations. Same story: No bueno.

Booming was not possible; yes you thinked correctly, extremely wide shoot (master camera) plus exterior (45 meters away was passing a train every 4 minutes). So everyone went crazy because of "sound problem", the kitchen nightmare; not the train nightmare. I have asked a simple question, if we had that kitchen from previous season. Guess, the answer was "no". And the story goes crazy.

Next time, cooking show, I will ask what type of kitchen will be. After "where", "when" (and why in my inner thoughts).

I decided to share this on JWsound as I know the community here is fantastic and will understand better than anyone what it can be like to face hard times as a freelancer.

FCC EXPANDS OPPORTUNITIES FOR WIRELESS MICROPHONE USERS

New Rules Allow WMAS Technology That Enables More Wireless Microphones to Operate with Greater Efficiency

WASHINGTON, February 15, 2024—The Federal Communications Commission today adopted new rules to allow a new, more spectrally efficient wireless microphone technology to operate. Wireless Multi-Channel Audio Systems (WMAS) use spectrum more efficiently than currently available narrowband microphones, meaning more microphones can be used without allocating more airwaves. The rules will permit WMAS to operate on a licensed or unlicensed basis, while preserving the existing spectrum rights of others that share those frequencies.

Wireless microphones, which operate under the FCC’s technical rules for Part 74 low-power auxiliary station devices and Part 15 unlicensed devices, can be found in a variety of settings, including theaters and music venues, TV and film studios, educational institutions, conventions, corporate events, houses of worship, and internet webcasts. The new rules will allow WMAS to operate in the broadcast TV bands and 600 MHz duplex gap on both a licensed and unlicensed basis, and in other Part 74 LPAS frequency bands on a licensed basis.

WMAS will enable more wireless microphones to operate in the spectrum available (i.e., more microphones per megahertz of spectrum), which provides additional options when more microphones are needed. The rules do not alter the existing spectrum rights or expectations regarding spectrum access and availability as it relates to other authorized users that share the frequency bands with wireless microphone operations (including, for example, broadcast licensees, Wi-Fi, and white space device users).

Action by the Commission February 15, 2024 by Report and Order (FCC 24-22). Chairwoman Rosenworcel, Commissioners Carr, Starks, Simington, and Gomez approving. Chairwoman Rosenworcel issuing a separate statement.

Many Freelancers Don't Get Paid on Time. This California Bill Aims to Fix That

One of photographer Amanda Hibbert’s clients never paid her for a completed job. Writer Elizabeth Aaron once waited nearly two years for full payment.

They are among the hundreds of thousands of freelancers in California with little recourse to fix a recurring problem: late — or no — compensation for their work. A state bill would change that by offering graphic designers, artists, videographers and other professional freelance workers some of the protections that payroll employees command.

Under the proposed legislation, state labor authorities or prosecutors could go after employers who don’t pay freelancers by the date outlined in a contract or within 30 days of completing a job. The legislation, SB 998, would not cover gig workers such as app-based drivers.

I think it's a good idea to have one place for all news coming from NAB, including live streaming links, interesting products outside from production sound world etc.
