http://fw.to/sojbmgI According to today's LA Times business section, sound departments throughout the industry are missing a trick by not having a "sound grip". (See caption to story above.)

I split a gut watching this NSFW clip from Key & Peele. Stick with it to the very end -- there's a pay off from the sound department at the very end.

Warning to 688 owners if you've bought the machine before v2.1 firmware be aware that when the firmware trial period runs out as mine did today my machine wouldn't drop into record , a message comes up on the recorder saying please download latest firmware it was nearly very embarrassing luckily I was near Wifi and was able to upgrade before the client was aware but I must question the practice of blocking the recorder from working, hoping this doesn't happen in future updates Best Giancarlo

Just a reminder for Local 695 members that tomorrow (Friday) or Saturday are the last chance to send in ballots for ratification of the new Basic Contract. That's the one with a 3% rate increase and 10% bump in pension for active participants. You may think that your one vote doesn't count for much... but it does. And in a larger sense, just the fact that you voted counts, too. The producers watch these things closely and when the vote count gets lower from year to year, they interpret that as being a sign that a disengaged membership is a membership ripe for exploitation at the next negotiations. Don't let that happen. Drop your postage-paid ballot in the mail as s…

Insolvency specialist SFP has confirmed that the assets of wireless microphone manufacturer Audio Engineering Ltd have been sold to Micronwireless Ltd, a company run by Audio Engineering’s former director Yogesh Tankaria (‘Tanky’). In a statement, SFP said: “Issues stemmed from Audio Engineering Limited’s inability to implement a new line of digital systems, and have been exacerbated by an increase in worldwide competition and product innovation. As a direct result, turnover has been steadily declining, and recently reached an unsustainable level. “After it was determined additional funding would not improve the London-based company’s market position, the company cease…

Hi there, I am doing a job in Canada (specifically Montreal, Quebec) and I am wondering what tax information I need to put on the invoice. I am Australian and my business is registered in Australia but I have a Work Permit (Case type: 20) for Canada. I saw that invoices in Canada are meant to include GST number and in some cases HST and PST; In Quebec I believe it is GST and PST. Does anyone know what I should put on the invoice in my case. Much appreciated in advance, Ed

Was watching the film Aloha last night at a cute local theatre, and spotted one of (I presume) Mr Wexlers Zaxcom ERX's used as a prop radio or listening device in one of the opening scenes... The movie sounded excellent, unfortunately that was probably the highlight for me.

Did anyone spot this funny Easter egg in Jurassic world? During the Pteranodon attack, in one of the scenes with lots of extras in the background, there was a guy picking up Margaritas off the table.. I know others spotted him, because I heard people in my Theater laugh a bit when it happened. I saw it.. I just didn't know it turned out to be Jimmy Buffett. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Jimmy-Buffett-Appeared-Jurassic-World-Odds-You-Saw-Him-72017.html

We had our now 4th annual Atlanta Sound Mixer Barbecue Saturday at mine and Kathy's house. We had sound friends from all over the country join us as well as friends from most of our vendors and manufacturers. We roasted two pigs and Lectrosonics brought brisket and smoked chicken. Gotham and PSC provided deserts, Trew and Zaxcom provide brew. Everyone was very generous with all of the food that was brought.

I haven't seen this posted elsewhere... There's a terrific interview with Jeff on the website Uncool.com at this link: http://www.theuncool.com/2015/06/15/meet-the-crew-jeff-wexler/ Congrats to Jeff -- he has some terrific stories to tell, and the story is a very good read. I bet Jeff has got a book or two in him.

Hi, After an unsuccessful negotiation with New Bay Media on what they want to own and pay writers, I have moved on to Markee. Editor Tom Inglesby asked me to talk to location sound rental houses for their June 2015 issue. Tom has allowed me to cross-publish the article to my blog. I hadn't read Markee in some time and upon seeing the e-issue, thought it was a good read. Actual articles on audio! Here's a link to the new issue. Regards, Ty Ford

This is really a jwsound story. Years ago when I first joined jwsound I saw that the closest regularly posting member was Whitney Ince in Savannah. One day I made a cold call to him and we chatted. As time went by Whitney would stop in Jacksonville when he was passing through and we would do lunch. We started working together and despite the 30+ year difference in ages we became close friends and I have learned as much from him as he has from me. Hunter and I were honored to be invited to his wedding in Savannah this weekend. I first met Becky at her wedding and she stole the show with her joy, she is a sweetie and Whitney is a lucky man to have found a true soul mate.…

I have worked on many a fine film and blessedly not to many turkeys, but If I had to come up with a double feature of my worst it would be "Stunt Rock" 1980 http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2589165568/tt0078335?ref_=tt_ov_i and "Hollywood Knight" AKA "Hard Knocks" 1979 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0130756/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Both films are mostly unwatchable unless you love D- to F+ films. I challenge all my fellow mixers to come up with the wall of shame pictures. I know you all got them.;~) CrewC
