Hi, Do we have Nico Ruderman from Spinrad Sound with us? He was the sound supervisor for The Selection: Special Operations Experiment; a huge amount of recorders, wireless and microphones being used for this project. You can get a glimpse through DPA article for what I am saying.

At this link (ENG. Version), down in the page you can download a deep interview I made to Steven Morrow about his job on "La La Land", for our association of italian sound technicians (A.I.T.S.). Hope you could like it (and forgive me if there are some mistakes in the text, my english is not so perfect). Vale.

Time to step up to the plate for your fellow crew members. Pick up Fudgie The Whale from your nearest Carvel store (if you can actually find one anymore) and I guarantee you'll be a big hero, at least for the moment!! https://www.google.com/maps/search/Carvel+in+NYC/@40.7330959,-74.0807972,11.25z

Hey everyone, looks like in the typical NAB haze/frenzy, a bag with a couple microphones and cables got lost. This bag and the equipment in it belongs to our generous hosts at SATAY. The bag is green/black and was last seen near the PA speakers. If you've seen or accidentally grabbed the bag, please please please send me or Jeff a private direct message and we'll figure out how to get the bag and equipment back to the good people SATAY. No questions asked, anonymity preserved, and all that. Thanks!

Not really complaining (for once) but watching the original Spring in a Small Town (heh, instead of replying to my gud fellas on Equipment etc) on UK tv Channel Film Four. Not too sure of the political situation, but 1948 mainland filmmaking. It's been cleaned up but to me just sounds tinny. Far cleaner than I've heard it before to be sure - ie no hiss. Just wondering though, between ourselves here, people used to listening to awful condition old soundtracks and cleaned up ones, what are the general preferences? I really don't mean to criticise this particular example (which in my Chinese dvd and previous viewings are hiss central) but when extreme noise reduction is…

Other than the JWS/RAMPS party on Tuesday evening, I am wondering why any of us would consider actually attending NAB, or is it that I just woke up feeling grumpy this morning? I am, however, thinking that most of not all of the major audio products have been announced/previewed/discussed here and elsewhere online, and can there really be much more to be 'revealed' at NAB? Having just written the above I realise that Aaton ought to be showing a bigger fader panel (I am guessing here), Audio Ltd ought to have a working 1010 twin receiver, and I am sure that Zaxcom will have either new surprises, or working models of previously shown stuff. OK - I admit it - …

We knew Jeff Wexler was honored with a Career Achievement award a few years back but this is even better. There's now a video store in Los Angeles that only stocks movies that were mixed by Jeff Wexler. Is that cool or what. Congrats, Jeff! Take a look... https://goo.gl/p70CPk

As of today Professional Sound Services of Ft. Lauderdale is no more. But fear not the new name is "Production Sound Solutions" now owned & operated by Eric Toline & Ahmed Lugo. Address & telephone numbers are the same. I am still going to be the chief curmudgeon that you all have grown to know & love.

"The eight-part series explores the art of music recording, and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the birth of brand new sounds. New episodes weeknights Nov. 14-23." Starts next Monday on US public broadcasting. Looks like episodes might be available for free streaming online after first broadcast. Not sure if there are geographic restrictions. But the series sounds interesting. I hear there's a whole episode dedicated to ribbon mics :-). http://www.pbs.org/soundbreaking/home/ Can't get a read on what the whole thing is like from the trailer...but check it out:

That's Don Coufal and Crew Chamberlain, two of my most favorite people, two of my oldest friends and fellow workers. I love seeing them together, working on a commercial, loving life! So much communal history, kind of blows my mind we've been around this long.

'I will mumble this only once': BBC's Nazi drama SS-GB hit by dialogue complaints SS-GB, the BBC’s new alternative history miniseries, has become the corporation’s latest primetime costume drama to be marred by complaints about mumbling. The audience for the second episode of Jamaica Inn fell by 1.6 million after the initial complaints. The BBC’s controller of drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson, was apologised to viewers and promised the corporation would examine the sound issues that plagued the first episode. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/feb/20/i-will-mumble-this-only-once-bbcs-new-nazi-drama-ss-gb-hit-by-dialogue-complaints

We were organizing and packing a big expendable order yesterday while loading our truck to start a show. We had ordered 400 Lithium 9 Volt batteries to cover the first few episodes. The Dynamis brand that we normally order has recently been shipping in ridiculously extra packaging to hold just 10 batteries. We removed the plastic holder and were able to fit 21 batteries in the cardboard box. 40 boxes down to 19. I know the packaging probably has something to do with shipping, but all that extra plastic is just awful. Josh

The Brooks Institute went bust not too long ago and they're liquidating all of their stuff with an online auction. If you browse through the lots you'll see lots of good audio gear (Sennheiser 416s, Sound Devices 744Ts, Sennheiser G3 wireless sets, etc.) at what could wind up being great prices. I'd bid on a few things but they have to be picked up in LA withing two days of the auction end on the 18th and I can't do it. https://www.bidspotter.com/en-us/auction-catalogues/timed/brian-testo-associates/catalogue-id-bscbri10019
