Time to step up to the plate for your fellow crew members. Pick up Fudgie The Whale from your nearest Carvel store (if you can actually find one anymore) and I guarantee you'll be a big hero, at least for the moment!! https://www.google.com/maps/search/Carvel+in+NYC/@40.7330959,-74.0807972,11.25z

I have to admit I'm a total newbie with respect to RSS. I did manage to figure out how to enable a Topics RSS feed and playing around with it a little it seems like a really neat and concise way of using this site. The way that an RSS feed is displayed is handled by your browser, right? I have no idea how things look with other browsers, but with Safari the RSS listing is really nice and clicking on any of the topics takes you out of the RSS feed and back to the site and that topic post. I like it.

I heard a very interesting story on the radio this evening, about the history of microphones and a couple who are making mics in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There's a recap of the story and a link to it as broadcast here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89705610 Best regards, Jim

The urgent need to preserve a cornerstone of American culture led folklorists like John Lomax to travel the country documenting early blues recordings and writers like Amiri Baraka to publish “Blues People: Negro Music in White America.” Although Margo Cooper did not know it when she began more than 20 years ago, she has followed that tradition and produced a documentary project that archives the oral and visual histories of blues musicians, their families and communities in northern Mississippi and the Delta. Her project, “Deep Inside the Blues,” includes B. B. King, Sam Carr, Bobby Rush, R. L. Burnside, Otha Turner and many others. It is, for her, a love letter to t…

Language at risk of dying out – the last two speakers aren't talking Trouble in Tabasco for centuries-old Ayapaneco tongue as anthropologists race to compile dictionary of Nuumte Oote Jo Tuckman in Mexico City The Guardian, Wednesday 13 April 2011 14.10 EDT Manuel Segovia still speaks Ayapaneco to his wife and son who understand him but speak only a few words themselves. Photograph: Jaime Avalos/EPA The language of Ayapaneco has been spoken in the land now known as Mexico for centuries. It has survived the Spanish conquest, seen off wars, revolutions, famines and floods. But now, like so many other indigenous languages, it's at risk of extinction. Ther…

I started reading Josh Friedman's blog and I'm hooked. It is very entertaining and extremely inside this crazy movie making Hi-Def making town. So I'm just going to post a few paragraphs and then link to them in an on going series (pardon the expression). Boy in the Bubble So where was I? Oh. Right. I had this little scary robot show and for whatever reason couldn't convince enough people that it was a) scary enough robot enough or c) in English. Add that dim sum combo of factors to a red bean paste of non-monetizable early adopters dvring the show like motherfuckers and now I'm unemployed. Everyone says having your show cancelled is like a death but I've bee…

Hi all, thought this event we are organising during the Brighton Festival might interest some of you...? In the UK premiere of the immersive video installation The Sprawl, award-winning artists and filmmakers Metahaven argue that the internet has become a disruptive geopolitical super weapon. Together with master cinematographer Remko Schnorr and acclaimed electronic musician Kuedo, Metahaven present The Sprawl, a strikingly poetic cinematic journey into the tangled machinations of the web, where terrorists tweet, anime videos disguise political spin and news channels hawk morality. Examining the splintered interpretation of world events including the Ukr…

Group, I don't know much about power surges, but I experienced a pretty bad one yesterday. Every piece of gear on my cart is powered from the Meon LiFe. Just before a take everything hiccuped for a second. Monitors were out but it was because VTR and DIT were all of a sudden down. A beat later, another hiccup with the gear and then ok again. It was a little quieter as the generator was now off. I unplugged my AC cord so I would not get another surge. It was panic hour and we were losing the light. They decided to shoot without VTR and DIT up and running. The 1st AD asked me if I could roll without power while the Juicers were running stingers for VTR. I said of course. …

(From Deadline Hollywood) A coalition of broadcasters, wireless providers, and chip makers Thursday urged the FCC to adopt guidelines to minimize potential conflict between broadcasters and wireless companies as the agency strives to cope with rising stress on bandwidth. Because of ever-increasing demand for mobile devices, the FCC proposed in September that broadcasters voluntarily give up some of their allotted bandwidth in exchange for a share of the proceeds when that bandwidth is auctioned to wireless broadband providers. The National Association of Broadcasters initially worried that broadcasters in smaller markets would be more likely to give up spectrum than t…

I got an email from the post supervisor on the TV Pilot I did. She says: "Hi Jeff, Just wanted to pass onto you that both the sound supervisor and the post sound mixers commented on what a great job you did for our pilot 'Untitled Goldberg/Gordon Project.' Your excellent work made our jobs a lot easier through the entire process. Thank you again for your diligence and your hard work. I hope to work with you again in the future. All the best, Fritzi" I was pleased to hear from the production as a follow up. I think we did an okay job, not great, but I am sure they have had to deal with a lot worse. Thank you to all those here who helped me with advice a…

Shame on any of the Canadian IATSE members who allowed Stuart Townsend to shoot his $10M movie about the WTO protests without a union contract. And hurray for the members of IATSE Local #488, Studio Mechanics of the Pacific Nortwest who risk their jobs to force the production to sign a contract before they would be allowed to shoot in Seattle. Why did anyone think that a movie about the WTO protests in Seattle would be allowed to shoot in Seattle without a union contract? Now that IS arrogent! Great job to the members of IATSE Local #488 and their negotiating team. A contract was signed last night. D.
