Hi all, I just miced up someone today with the above system and very random, without a mic plugged in, I hear a very random popping. Almost like a cable popping but softer and not scratchy. The system work perfect the last time I used it. My experience with troubleshooting wireless is not much. So any help would be great. I swapped batts, antenna and jiggled it violently with no specific result. Very random and not caused by vibration. Thanks for your suggestions. Scott

I am hiring two Lectrosonics SMa transmitters with a SRa (?) Receiver. I tested everything out (good thing because of the first receiver output 2 failed). But now I test it again in a quiet invironment, and one of the two SMa's is giving a lot of noise. Also, everytime a -10 or -20 LED blinks a pop sound is audible. Is this device broken? I tried: Changing level, Frequency, Rolloff, replacing battery, replacing microphone, replacing antenna, switch mixer input, Check compatibility (can only switch between hbr and ifb). Help! Argh! I can't contact the company bacouse it's evening now here (Netherlands).

Hi, might lend myself a small gig that involves shooting with the Alexa. From what I heard from many, it is a double-system workflow shooting with it. Since the budget does not justify in investing myself with a Nomad, I'm just wondering if the Fostex FR2 with Timecode option will be able to work with Alexa, timecode compatiability wise. Much advise is needed. Thanks a lot!

The broken nomad thread made me decide to start a thread about aliasing. I started writing a whole things explaining what aliasing is, how under sampling creates it, and the theory behind it. Then I found this video. Discuss.

I have several AKG blue line mic capsules and power modules and I'm running into an issue with my ck93 hypercardioid capsule. It loosened up, and when I screw it back together (see the 3 pieces in the pictures below) the signal becomes either very weak and hissy, or highly distorted noise. Wiring/soldering are not my forte, but I am led to believe that the three pieces are misaligned with one another. Does anyone know if this could be the case, and if so, what is the proper way to align/fix everything? Or could it be something else? I had the same problem with another 93 capsule and I somehow miraculously managed to get it to work again. I'm not having the same luck …

10 Statements on Condenser Microphones vs. Dynamic Microphones By audio specialist Eddy B. Brixen www.dpamicrophones.com The topic of discussion on the difference between dynamic microphones and condenser microphones is never ending. That’s fine, we don’t want it to end, rather, we want to add to the discussion and further enlighten readers a little…First of all, we must clarify a few things: The difference between dynamic microphones and condenser microphones is all about two different transducer principles. In other words, it has nothing to do with the directional characteristics of the microphones. You cannot ask: ‘What kind of directional characteristic do…

...or at least we should know them, or learn them, as they keep coming up! for example, we keep getting asked about interference issues amongst transmi9tters and receivers: "Desensing or receiver desensitization: Desensing occurs when a transmitt er is operating in close, physical proximity to a receiver, even if that transmitter is not on or near the receiver’s operating frequency. Receiver desensitization occurs because receivers must maintain critical voltage and current levels throughout the frontend stages and a strong (i.e. physically close) transmitter can cause these levels to vary greatly. As these levels widely fluctuate, the receiver performance will…

I've checked the usual references, but would love to get some input from people with on-the ground (well, just-above-the-ground) experience. What blocks and/or frequencies in St. Louis, MO have people found to be especially open or especially crowded? Thanks, Jim

Another message comes up saying something like "hardware drive warning" i assume I'm sending this back to SD..anyone have anything like this? thanks!

Hey all, I'm curious what mixdown levels most (post-production) sound mixers use with films, particularly short films. I vaguely remember from college that our outputs should be peaking around -10 or -12dBFS at the most. However I think this must vary a lot depending on the application of the film and more confusion is added on what is an acceptable loudness, since peaks do not define loudness. Furthermore I suspect these levels would be inclined differently for web purposes. I've done a few sound mixes in the past that clients were happy with, following the above rule, however recently I've received a request to basically get the mixes peaking as loud as poss…

I have to make some AES cables - and have heard two different recommendations from trusted sources. The first says that one should always use 110 ohm rated cable for AES cables. The other says that it doesn't matter what you use if the length is short (in his words - less than 100 feet). In my case, I need to wire the AES in and out of a Fusion to an external box, that probably wouldn't be longer that 7 feet. I have some 110 ohm cable that is rather small in diameter - but not small enough to fit 4 of them inside the opening of a 9-pin d-sub. I do though - have some analog cable that would fit just fine. So would I be ok with the analog cable or am I asking fo…

Hi all, Before Nomad officially arrives to Sg, I got myself a Zoom H1 because my Zoom H4n went robust!. Unfortunately for me, the line input doesn't seem to match with my SD 442 XLR - 10 or Line Outputs! The only output that works now with the H1 is the Tapes out on the 442. I know it has something that got to do with the Line Input on the H1 and XLR Output level because I managed to get the XLR outputs on my 302 to work after padding it down to -10 Line. any idea how do I go around solving it for the 442? Put some resistors in the 1/8 - 2 XLR cable that I had made maybe?

I will be recording a small aircraft landing today, and i wouldnt want to trash my mics. The mics i have available are mkh 50, mkh 416, audix tr40, tram tr50 lavs, and a shure sm57. Should i go with the dynamic 57 or is a small airplane not loud enough to damage my mics? I know the way to go is to measure how loud it is and then go with a mic accordingly, but im pretty sure we will only get one shot at it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

Hi all, feeling like making my own brake-out cable and tails to camera. I have little experience with brake-outs and would like to know from more experienced what is a good, comfy distance to insert the multi-pin xlr going to camera. I've seen these measurement from a pro cable maker: Outputs are 35cm Long Return is 65cm Long any advice on the gauge? any extra tips are welcome. thanks

Can a BWF, with Time Code be treated just like a Wave file without Time Code? Yes it can. But, if a BWF file is created with the wrong Time Code can it still be synced to a picture file in an editing program like FInal Cut? Such as ignoring the Time Code and just syncing manually to the Slate clap. Does the Time Code frame rate effect the actual “clocking” or “speed” of the recording making it impossible to match to a picture recorded with a different Time Code? Can an audio track be re-striped with new Time Code? T h a n k s for y o u r help.

Hi Does anyone know how to take apart a screw lock 10 pin hirose plug - the type used on sound devices and SQN mixers. I have one i removed from a lead which i need to re-connect/solder and i cant open up the connector. I am wary of using brute force unless i know i am going in the right direction. Thanks for any help

Hi all, I need to wire a PTT comms type mic to a TA5F so it will work with a UM200C Tx, I have done this before so know it works but the mic broke and the connector has gone awol and of course I never wrote down the wiring configuration! The mic is from a standard onset RT and has 3 wires, red, green and copper. Has anyone else has done this (and written down the wiring info!) last time I did it I'm pretty sure I didn't use any resistors but it maybe had 1 capacitor in the mix somewhere but maybe not... Thanks! Chris.

If this has already been posted remove this post... I just solved a mysterious error with 788t files that could not be imported in Final Cut Pro by installing the new 1.16 version of Wave Agent from Sound Devices... Read more here and install 1.16: http://www.sounddevi...os-and-windows/
