I have several AKG blue line mic capsules and power modules and I'm running into an issue with my ck93 hypercardioid capsule. It loosened up, and when I screw it back together (see the 3 pieces in the pictures below) the signal becomes either very weak and hissy, or highly distorted noise. Wiring/soldering are not my forte, but I am led to believe that the three pieces are misaligned with one another. Does anyone know if this could be the case, and if so, what is the proper way to align/fix everything? Or could it be something else? I had the same problem with another 93 capsule and I somehow miraculously managed to get it to work again. I'm not having the same luck …

The broken nomad thread made me decide to start a thread about aliasing. I started writing a whole things explaining what aliasing is, how under sampling creates it, and the theory behind it. Then I found this video. Discuss.

Gentle sound folk. Am recording iso tracks on 788T at 25ND/48kHz. I have an ACL203 jammed to the 788T sitting on the side of the RED with Genlock and Timecode connected. ACL203 Settings are HD1080P, 25ND, 48kHz - switch settings 3,2,2 RED is set to jamsynch from the ACL203 and to use external genlock (from the ACL203) Initially, on boot, everything is fine. Chainlink symbol for TC Jam and Padlock symbol for genlock. All Good. Then, without warning, after a few hours of operation, the RED loses Genlock. A reboot of the RED solves this problem, but then it appears again. After a while, rebooting the RED is moot and the genlock simply does not…

I've spoken with a few people and read numerous posts where this distinction is not made. I have a loose understanding of it and would appreciate those more knowledgeable chiming in to clarify. I've tried finding this in the ARRL handbook but am not sure what search words to look for in the index. From my understanding, RF gain attributed to an antenna type such as a helical(+14db) or LPDA(+4-6db) is totally different from gain needed to get back to zero on a receiver from couplers or long cable runs using a low noise amplifier(LNA). The antenna gain is similar to microphone pickup patterns and their "reach". A helical antenna radiates a field that is cone shaped( I th…

Hi all, I just bought the PSC SC -4 Sound Cart second hand and was wondering if anybody has a copy of the assembly instructions for the cart. I have searched for it online and can't find anything. I would like to take it all apart and give it a good clean up. Also, I would like to know if its missing any washers, bolts or other items. Thanks! Paul

Well, the title says it all. I'll need some XLR cable length that should also serve on SuperCMITs. Maybe 30m max, so it's probably not very relevant, but I thought, I'd ask.

I was wondering if you do a stereo line cable for a XFR300 and input audio on one channel and timecode on the other, can it accept both or you have to select either?

Does anyone have a definitive answer for whether or not to connect the cable 'Shield' to the connector 'Case' Standard wiring for 'Balanced' Input/Output 3 Pin XLR is: Pin 1 Shield Pin 2 + Pin 3 - But should you jumper Pin 1 'Shield' to the connector 'Case' It seems that every time I ask someone I get a different answer ranging from "Absolutely yes" to "Definitely not" and even "Yes for location audio but no for studio audio" or "Only at one end" or "No way because that 'Case' lug is for attaching the string in the cable to provide strain relief". A quasi continuation from my other recent posts. The hits just keep coming; let's talk levels for a moment. I've gone through the audio for the first couple days and the levels are pretty low around -42 to -30db and occasionally peaking around -24db. This is occurring for both the boom and lavs. From my understanding the levels should be around -12db? I'm not just talking about Wide shots where the boom can't be near the actors either, the same thing is happening in Mediums and O/S, and it's not framed in some artistic way, the players heads are near the top of the frame, so the boom mic if placed properly should be giving a pretty strong signal and I imagine the l…

Does anyone know if I can charge a battery (NP-1 or 7.2V DV batt) while it is still connected to my equipment? Or would I have to disconnect the gear from the battery to protect it? My batteries are buried in my ENG bag and I was thinking it would be nice to just plug the battery in to a charger instead of having to dig it out. Any thoughts?

Hey All, Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I could only find a couple posts and they seemed about 15 years old! I've been recording in 48k 16bit as standard for film/tv stuff, but I'm just wondering if this is still the industry standard, or if I should be recording at 24bit? I'm not asking which is technically 'better', as we all know 24bit is the winner, I'm asking what bit depth do you record in? And what is the expected bit depth these days? Thank you all you lovely people!

Hi there, I'll soon shoot a documentary in Scotland, and I was wondering if I could be able to use my Block 21 Lectrosonics wireless lavs without being "illegal". Could anybody help me on that? Much appreciated!

I'm going to be installing some video monitors into a rack mount. I'm thinking of placing a 'patch panel' on the other side of the rack. So, I guess I'll need to make up some smaller patch cables that go between the monitor(s), and the patch panel. What is the ohms on the video cables? 50ohms, 75omhs? Does it make a difference? Have you guys made your own BNC to BNC cables? Has anyone done this? Thanks -Richard

Hi Guys, New on here and new enough to location recording I hope you can help me out here. At the weekend i was shooting a scene where the talent was almost whispering and eventually went onto screaming. Just wondering what the best way is to record this. Is it a case of setting low levels to avoid clipping or pull back the boom? Thanks

I've worked with Deva 2 for so long... I am used to getting 8 "track hours" out of 2G partitions... At 48K/24bit I can count on 1tk = 8hrs on a 2G block, 2tk = 4hrs on a 2G block, 4tks = 2hrs on a 2G block ....... when it comes down to 2G partitions... I've got a 2hr performance recording coming up, and the client wants 16 tracks plus timecode.... I am looking for the storage capacity he'll / we'll need to be ready for.... I plan on using BoomRecorder here.... For BoomRecorder users, has the formula been roughly the the same ? (1 tk for 8 hrs = 2g) Therefore, 17 tks at 8 hrs would require 34G ..... Since I'm only recording for 2hrs (8/4 = 2, thus…

Hi all, feeling like making my own brake-out cable and tails to camera. I have little experience with brake-outs and would like to know from more experienced what is a good, comfy distance to insert the multi-pin xlr going to camera. I've seen these measurement from a pro cable maker: Outputs are 35cm Long Return is 65cm Long any advice on the gauge? any extra tips are welcome. thanks
