Have an old 302 mixer. Works fine, but the LED ribbon is either broken or unseated. I could most likely buy a part from Sounddevices or just look up the part number and find it from an electronics supplier. However, I cannot get to the actual ribbon. It's sandwiched between the two boards. I took the rubber knobs off of the pots. Seems like the nuts are holding it together from the front side. Any idea as to any things I need to do to disassemble the unit enough to get to the inside? Many thanks.

Hi, I am designing a gooseneck podium mic/preamp. It will use an electret mic. There won't be much shock isolation between the gooseneck and the podium. I am interested in what people think a good frequency response would be. Some issues are low frequency thumps and handling materials such as notes on the podium. Also, what would be a good low pass for sibilance . Keeping in mind that in many instances there will be no sound person present to EQ. The EQ would be permanently set in the preamp. What would you set low and high pass filters at? Thanks for any help with this.

Hey All, Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I could only find a couple posts and they seemed about 15 years old! I've been recording in 48k 16bit as standard for film/tv stuff, but I'm just wondering if this is still the industry standard, or if I should be recording at 24bit? I'm not asking which is technically 'better', as we all know 24bit is the winner, I'm asking what bit depth do you record in? And what is the expected bit depth these days? Thank you all you lovely people!

Charles Tomaras has posted this helpful ink on RAMPS; as he doesn't post here, and I don't post there, I'm thanking him, and cross posting this reference: http://reboot.fcc.gov/reform/systems/spectrum-dashboard

I am about to be working on a project featuring some trainers doing high intensity workouts and the producers what to achieve the most even sound possible. We have done some of these in the past and we would run one lav and a boom, but due to the quick movement, changing positions, the trainers head pointing in different directions, the lav being covered or pressed into the floor for certain positions, the lav track is not always reliable. When they use the boom to fill in the gaps the sound is quite different and they are trying to figure out a way to get a more even sound throughout. For some stuff this round we will be using a countryman h6 headset, and this will el…

I’m recording a college marching band inside an arena. Should I be worried that it will over power my Scheops CMU6 with MK4 cardiold capsule? Would a dynamic mic work better? I’m concerned about echo too. I’m also wondering if a sanken lav on a drummer would get me crisp drums. Any suggestions appreciated.

I've bought what is marketed as pair of single lyre (19/25) (with modular adaptor & screws) in the 3 shore/stiffness variants (62/72/82) to use them in my Cyclone or an INV-7. For simplicity I'll only refer to 62 Shore variant here. Mine has product code 042255. There is a similar product, with the code 042250 marketed as pair of single lyre (19/25) (with premodular adaptor & screws). Rycote also offers a Cyclone Pair of Universal Lyre with the product code 042270. The lyres that came with my Cyclone and my INV-7 look exactly the same as those I just ordered (just without the adaptor). What are the differences between modular and pr…

I have recently upgraded my A10-RX to a new A20-RX. The idea is to move from the crowded UHF band to the 1.3 GHz band and to reduce the lenght of the antenna on the A20-mini transmitters. As I was searching technical informations about the effects of obstacles, and especially human body, on the transmission at higher frequencies, I found this very interesting study: https://www.bakom.admin.ch/bakom/en/homepage/frequencies-and-antennas/facts-and-figures/the-effect-of-the-human-body-on-wireless-microphone-transmission.html If I understand well, if the body is an absorber in the UHF band, it acts more like a reflector at higher frequencies. …

I want to use 4 Wisycom MCR42 s with AES on Deva Recorder. Everything works fine. Only the EQ works for Ch 1,2,3 and 4. For Ch 5-8 its not possible to activate the eq. I see the eq at the display. But on Ch 5-8 there is no difference to bypass. any ideas? When I use all analog Inputs all Ch works fine with EQ.

Has anyone determined which wireless frequencies are most/least likely to suffer from occupancy sensor interference? The Leviton sensors operate at 5.8 GHz but I have run into what sounds like intermodulation problems in UHF.

I have a schoeps 641 and an mkh50 that I use with a trx 743. I’ve noticed that when the boom pole gets jostled, there’s a small burst of static and it sounds the same on both mics. I’ve isolated it to the mics and I wanted to see what might be causing this and what I could do to fix this?

Well, the title says it all. I'll need some XLR cable length that should also serve on SuperCMITs. Maybe 30m max, so it's probably not very relevant, but I thought, I'd ask.

Hello All, Need some assistance if you can. I've got the SD633 and I'm trying to record Wav Poly on CF and MP3 on the SD card. I've updated to V4.61. The mixer is not allowing me to record MP3's. I've tried new cards of various sizes and I'm not recording in F mode. I've formatted the cards and I'm at 48K also. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions would be helpful. Thanks, Russ

one of my 4.2's was running about 20ips , irrespective of speed switch. no , it was not in f fwd.fault traced to poor gold split connections to the speed control board at rear.. unsrew the 2 screws securing the 2 green plugs and gently, with a jewellers screwdriver, prise each split gold pin , slightly wider, to ensure a better tight fit. this cured the problem.

Hi , I've found this website and start read as much as I can!! There are professional users here and you help is really precious. I bought a Nagra 3 recently ( I was looking for it from many years..). It is nearly perfect for what concern the body, it looks like new, this is incredible for a 60 years old piece... and inside seems to be never repaired. All the Red paint is in place. New batteries are now inside. The motor run as it should! 4 speeds Rewind is ok, fast forward too. It plays but the sound is not so loud from the central speaker ... I tried to record putting a bass…

Again, mad physicist exploring TC world here. 😁 Is HDMI timecode LTC and is it using Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) pin bus? Or maybe Pin 17? I understand timecode over HDMI is a hack introduced by Atomos almost ten years ago and then adopted by many manufacturers but can't find any technical details about it... any pointer? [EDIT: or is it SONY with the FS100? as discussed here on jwsd] Thanks in advance... Fun fact: looking around I learned Atomos under CEO J. Young was a shitty place to work at. PS: I'm referring to pin 17 as "Utility/HEAC+" signal, defined in HDMI 1.4+ version. This signal moves from pin …

Hi, I have a Coles 4104 that sounds good, but the noise of the preamp is very noticeable when I turn it up to the level needed. Ive tried 3 different preamps with similar results. Its the same noise of a preamp that is heard when turning up the gain without a mic loading it. When I connect the microphone, the noise is the exact same, but combined with the microphones signal. Searching online I don't see any mention of this issue. Could anyone who has used this microphone describe their experience? I've used other, much cheaper, ribbon microphones and never noticed this level of noise. Thanks, Rodrigo
