Hi all, I am heading to the U.S for a doco shoot and am planning on taking my block 21 wireless mics and block 22 camera hop (SR5 Rx + 2 LMa Tx). I will have scanning ability on both blocks. At this stage we will be shooting in LA, San Antonio, Toronto, and Chicago. I understand that 21 is ok but 22 not as good in places like LA. As my block 22 is primarily my camera hop and both TX and RX will have good line of sight and not be far apart much of the time that this should still be ok... Any thoughts or feedback appreciated (I will be running a back up recording of all audio if the link does throws a wobbly to be safe). Thanks, Chris.

Does anyone know if I can charge a battery (NP-1 or 7.2V DV batt) while it is still connected to my equipment? Or would I have to disconnect the gear from the battery to protect it? My batteries are buried in my ENG bag and I was thinking it would be nice to just plug the battery in to a charger instead of having to dig it out. Any thoughts?

Hello People, I'm looking for suggestions from those familiar with the finer details of Nomad capabilities. I just upgraded to the 12 and believe I have found an unfortunate recording limitation, bummer for me, and you other 12 track users. I am using and 8 channel board in front of the Nomad sending 8 AES channels into Nomad. The way I see it on the input config screen, my only option for 8 channels of AES on the nomad is Input Type 7. With this option selected, it limits my 9-12 card tracks to R1 and R2 only - R3 and R4 are RED (danger danger) because of the input type 7. The option for outputs 1-4 isn't enabled.....yet? Does anyone know of any possible…

Hey all, I need some assistance. My CS3e made a pop-pop-pop sound while out on the field. Situation was. Shot on the beach for a few hours. Then went inside car. We shot some stuff with doors open. Then we closed the doors. Then while we're recording some VO and wild lines, I hear some pop-pop-pop. Fast and intermittent. There were just three I think. I would attach a sample, but I can't find where it is. It was a pretty quiet sound. I'm sure it'd be audible though, once amplified enough. Is it preamp motorboating caused by the shift in humidity? Is it RF? I've often gotten a similar sound with the Schoeps, but I figured it was humidity…

I've worked with Deva 2 for so long... I am used to getting 8 "track hours" out of 2G partitions... At 48K/24bit I can count on 1tk = 8hrs on a 2G block, 2tk = 4hrs on a 2G block, 4tks = 2hrs on a 2G block ....... when it comes down to 2G partitions... I've got a 2hr performance recording coming up, and the client wants 16 tracks plus timecode.... I am looking for the storage capacity he'll / we'll need to be ready for.... I plan on using BoomRecorder here.... For BoomRecorder users, has the formula been roughly the the same ? (1 tk for 8 hrs = 2g) Therefore, 17 tks at 8 hrs would require 34G ..... Since I'm only recording for 2hrs (8/4 = 2, thus…

I am starting on a show that requires a light run and gun set up and production is asking that I provide a Comtek M 216 TX. I'll be feeding this from the tape out of my SD 302. Just wondering who's used the Sound Devices schematic to build either the mono tape or mic level output cable? http://www.sounddevices.com/notes/mixers/302/302-tech-note-adding-a-mono-mic-level-output/#more-35 Which is best for the M-216? Are there any other options out there that any of you have been using?

I have recently been doing some fairly simple sit down interviews with a bunch of ladies, who's voice could not be any quieter. I ask them to talk louder if possible but my request falls on deaf ears. The room we have been using is also not very quiet, AC constantly on, traffic outside ect.. So my question is: What would be the optimal mic for a boom pole for something like that? Right now I am using B6 for lav and the Schopes CMIT 5U for the shotgun. I was thinking maybe a Schopes capsule like the MK4? Any advice would be great. Thanks, Nejc P

Gentle sound folk. Am recording iso tracks on 788T at 25ND/48kHz. I have an ACL203 jammed to the 788T sitting on the side of the RED with Genlock and Timecode connected. ACL203 Settings are HD1080P, 25ND, 48kHz - switch settings 3,2,2 RED is set to jamsynch from the ACL203 and to use external genlock (from the ACL203) Initially, on boot, everything is fine. Chainlink symbol for TC Jam and Padlock symbol for genlock. All Good. Then, without warning, after a few hours of operation, the RED loses Genlock. A reboot of the RED solves this problem, but then it appears again. After a while, rebooting the RED is moot and the genlock simply does not…

Hi. Am currently using a wendt x4. Just recently tried using the audio technica atw-100 series as a headphone cue. i realise that the wendt x4 has a mic out instead of the usual tape out on fp33 and sd mixers. did some read up and it says that the mic out provides 50dB below line level signal (which should be -60dB). need some advice on the connection schematics to do a 1/8" to Switchcraft TA5F (5 pin mini-XLR) cable for connecting from x4 mic out to audio technica transmitter.[/b Thanks!

Hey Guys! So I have big project coming up that I will be doing a lot of traveling for. I will be OMBing it. The shooting locations will primarily be high-altitude, cold environments, probably mountainous. I will be using a SD 664 for recording. My other gear includes and ME66, 2x Senn G3s with a B6, and TL40 lavs. I will be renting a Rycote zeppelin system as well. Primary cameras will be DSLRs (5d), and a high speed camera as well. The content will be primarily single subject interviews of athletes documentary style. So the interviews will take place indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions. There may be action shots also of the athletes …

Somebody over on Gearslutz just asked this question, so I thought I'd put up a list of a half-dozen discussions over the last few years on this subject... Some discussions on different techniques for micing dialogue in cars over on the JWSound Group: I think it would be nice to have a Frequently Asked Questions section so that when people ask "which microphone is best for this room?" or "what frequency will work in City X," we could just refer to them with a link. Or better yet, make sure they understand that they should check the FAQ section first rather than post a question that's been answered many times.

Hello, I want to do a mod in the direct outs of my CS106, like the one Vark Audio offers. The problem is that I live in Ecuador, South America, and sending the unit to them would be a little difficult. So I contacted a local electronics engineer and he told me that he needs the service manual, because the diagrams in the operators manual that I gave him don't have all the information he needs. Does anyone have the service manual of the CS106 or know where to find it? I sent an e.mail to coopersoundsystems@gmail.com, but they haven't answered yet. Thanks. Juan

I know that there are at least a couple of you that are running either boom recorder or metacorder in your carts. I have a i5 mounted in a drawer that I put together last winter. It's dead silent. I keep a temp monitor up, and now that It's getting warm Im starting to see my cpu temps rising. I am starting to think a little bit more about ventilation, but so far it hasn't been an issue. My average temp stays somewhere around 60-65c. What are your average temps? Do you monitor them? I think my biggest worry is a runaway process. I was just stress testing my cpu and went from 62-81 in about 3 seconds, hovered at 81 for about 10 minutes, and then dr…

MP3 - timecode in ID3 tag? I've googled pretty extensively to find some more information about this, and what seems to be the main reference site - ID3.org - seems to have puzzlingly been down since 2012? So I've not made any progress. Can anyone refer me to or know more information about where and how timecode is placed in an MP3 ID3 tag such that transcription houses can use it please? There seems to be a wide variety of ID3 tag readers and editors but timecode reference seems to be outside of thier scope. Anyone know of one that can read or edit the timecode reference please, I couldn't find one? I know BWFWidget Pro can create MP3's with timecode in the I…

Hello, If using a headphone monitor with a XLR pass-through like the Rolls PM55P, does it matter if I am using cables with a different brand, spec? If not, then in which case using different cables can become a problem? Until now I have only used one cable from source to equipment, unless going through mixers or preamps. Thanks.

Hello, I did 4 scans on my Wireless Receiver, and the first three make sense. The mixer by itself did not add any significant RF, and the TX by itself added the suspected amount, but when I turn them both on I don't have much to choose from. Any ideas? 1)RX 2)RX+Mixer 3)RX+TX in IFB mode 4)RX+Mixer+TX Thanks, Rodrigo

Well, long story short, I am having trouble exporting sound files from a Korg D3200 digital recorder to my macbook. The files include a 1.4 gig 16 bit (44.1 khz) file, and the other is 24 bit (48 khz) and stands at about 4.8 gigs. Now i have two main problems, the first is that the transfer space i have available on the recording station is only 4 gigs, and i can't transfer the larger of the two files to my computer via USB. I need some way to either cut down on the track, or enlarge the transfer space without ruining or deleting what i have. The second came when i transferred over the smaller of the two files, but found it was a .DBK file, which i found out, after…
