I'm directing my first feature in late Dec/early Jan, and still looking for the right person to handle sound. The ideal candidate should be Brooklyn/NYC-based and have his/her own gear. Though we're shooting on a relatively minimal budget, I've set aside a decent amount of money for sound. Send a list of your past projects w/links and an equipment list if you want to be considered for this project: derick@fstopimages.com Thanks, Derick

I am booming on a budget feature in L.A. and need a mixer with a small kit and a couple comteks to mix nine days from the 15th through the 26th of February. It is low budget but pretty fun with a good cast and some talented people on the production end. If you are interested or know of someone you could recommend please PM me here. Thank You, Alistair Duff

07/14/12 We are looking for a sound person with their own equipment for our micro-budget feature film shooting mostly in Jersey City in mid-late July. We have successfully completed our online fundraising and have raised enough money to pull it off, though everyone involved is working for under what they would on a corporate project or higher budget. This is a passion project, a small, indie romantic comedy in the vein of Edward Burns, Woody Allen, The Duplass Brothers. If you're looking for a cool film to be a part of and want to work with professionals who have their stuff together, understand the value of your time, and are talented people…

Hi guys, Anyone wants (or knows who might be interested in) joining in? 2 days in total. For Sunday, Nov 2nd and Monday, Nov 3rd. It is an indie, short. I'm aware of the budget (or almost no budget) but I prefer not working alone on those 2 days and couldn't fight for more than this. Thank you, Engin

So I'm sure many of you guys have come across me on the boards here, and you've all offered great advice and opinions (particularly about the reverberant room). I've seen a lot of networking in action over here, although a lot of you are firmly established within the industry and are already in the networks that you need to be in. I've freelanced for a good year or so now, mostly working on low end productions where I do get a lot of very poorly (or hardly) paid work from job boards, although work's not greatly consistent in its quality, and I'm probably not going to get to big work by just slugging away doing that. What I'm finding tricky is getting my networking sta…

Hello, I have posted a similar topic on this forum before but got no response. Hoping for a different result this time. I am a young broadcast mixer/a2 who is looking to learn the art of location mixing and recording. I have been getting a steady flow of reality and corporate gigs, but if I had the opportunity to do a job with more than a few lavs I would not be prepared. I am hoping to find an experienced mixer in the Bay Area to show me the ropes. I'd love to stop by a set and 2nd or 3rd for a day, but even an email dialogue with a successful local mixer would be awesome. Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks.

Hello, I'm new to this forum, and looking for advice and leads. I've been a union boom operator in Los Angeles since 1996, and have done just fine. I have no problem getting on a series or two each fall, the last really successful TV series I did was House MD, and a series I just worked on (About a Boy) is getting a second season starting this fall. I really do not need to go to NY to work, however, I met a girl at Burning Man, and not really expecting much, it turned into something special. And now we want to live together, but she's just launching her career as a photographer in NY, and she does not want to move to LA, so I've decided to try my fortune in NY. …

So my mom started working for an airline as sort of a post-retirement job. It is nice for her because she can fly here to NYC and visit me, and my sister and my nephew. But it is also awesome for me, because I can fly where ever Jetblue flies for free. The caveat is that I fly stand-by, so I don't always have a guaranteed seat. So you can see the potential problems in a time sensitive business. The question is, is this something I should advertise to potential employers? It is not like telling them your gear list, is it? Plus, there is the fact that I would be using a perk of my mom's employment for my own benefit. Is that ok? Anyone else have this situation?

from one of my students: " ...Then you took us outside and we all had a chance to test out booming. That class really got to me and I wanted to thank you. Ever since I have tried to boom on all the movies I can. But as my graduation day is approaching I am getting interesting in taking some sort of internship. Specially because since I am an international student once I graduate I will have to leave the USA. So I was wondering ... if you know anybody that needs a boom operator that is willing to work for free. I just want to get experience and hopefully an internship that will possibly lead to a job. Any help you can give me will be immensely appreciated. Thank you for …

Right, listen up folks, this could be good for all of us! I have a Cameraman friend who runs a pretty busy forum for camera folks, and he's noticing more and more posts asking for Sound Folk in specific locations, it's the notion of Post Code Recordist I suppose, people don't want to travel us. Anyway, He wants me, and he, to compile a list of recordists (it's mainly doc stuff) That can sit on the forum, so people can browse and look for recordists where ever they're shooting, instead of constantly asking for recommendations in a particular location. If you want to be involved, message me and I'll forward you an email address to send your details to. I make no promises wh…

So I've talked with several pros in the industry and they've all told me the same thing, film school is a waste, go learn from experience. So hey, that's what I've been doing. I am at a point thought where the experience I am getting isn't what I need so I'm looking to apprentice with one, or three, mixers so I can learn and get more hands-on experience with someone who knows what they're doing. So, a little about me. My name is Amanda. In only a little over a year I have worked over 25 productions. I love working in film and take pride in doing it well. Every job is different but I can quickly adapt to provide an excellent quality product every time no matter what job…

Needed: Professional Craftie with Gear and Supplies We're producing an award-ready feature based on my partner's experiences in college so far. Think "Twelve Angry Men" meets "Sleepless in Seattle" meets "Finding Nemo". But better. We've already got a DP attached with plenty of TV and corporate experience, and will be shooting on a red camera made by Nikon. Our sound guy has the same great equipment he uses for big-name cover bands in clubs. We'll be shooting over two weeks in various apartments downtown, with some possible outdoor scenes depending on weather and crowds. We need a craft service person who's done feature films. Professional quality, flexibility, and a c…
