I am willing to do just about any job out there at this point, Lately I have been trying to mix first, boom second, do audio post third, edit fourth and after that I'll AC, grip, PA, whatever. I'd rather do sound but I am trying to cobble together a living and it ain't easy in Missoula, Montana. In the past six months alone I have done lots of free sound on short films/conferences and gotten paid to cut trailers, produce and direct a short, author DVD's, really whatever I can do that people need done. I can travel anywhere on short notice and have an RV I can live in if necessary. I have a 442, a DR-680, a Lectro 411/SMa, a Schoeps CMC641, a Sennheiser 416,…

Hey guys, I got this job offer today and just had to share. Needless to say....good luck finding all that gear for that rate, by Tuesday. The gear requirements hardly make sence, ex: switchable IFBs to listen to all 5 lavs in iso. I may as well give em a 411 in group mode! Here's the email I received: You available to do audio for a reality show? Starts Tuesday and goes til end of month. Will be about 15 days of shooting. Pays $550 with gear. Gear list (or comparable): · 5 ea. Lavalier Wireless Mic (Lectrosonics SMV super-Minature Blck 22) · 5 ea. Wireless transmitters and receivers · 1 ea. Boom (complete) · 2 e…

To all LA Sound Mixers, My name is Thomas Snodgrass and I'm trying to break into the location sound biz I've been doing small freelance gigs here and there while working full time in a restaurant. I own a 633, MKH-50 and 60 but rent all of my wireless etc for my gigs. If you ever need a good boom op or utility I'd love to be added to your list. I have an audio engineering degree and years of experience with all types of audio equipment. Also, if you ever just need a little "pro bono" help or are willing to let someone tag along and pick your brain, I'd love the opportunity. Thanks! -Thomas-

So I've talked with several pros in the industry and they've all told me the same thing, film school is a waste, go learn from experience. So hey, that's what I've been doing. I am at a point thought where the experience I am getting isn't what I need so I'm looking to apprentice with one, or three, mixers so I can learn and get more hands-on experience with someone who knows what they're doing. So, a little about me. My name is Amanda. In only a little over a year I have worked over 25 productions. I love working in film and take pride in doing it well. Every job is different but I can quickly adapt to provide an excellent quality product every time no matter what job…

Hello, I have posted a similar topic on this forum before but got no response. Hoping for a different result this time. I am a young broadcast mixer/a2 who is looking to learn the art of location mixing and recording. I have been getting a steady flow of reality and corporate gigs, but if I had the opportunity to do a job with more than a few lavs I would not be prepared. I am hoping to find an experienced mixer in the Bay Area to show me the ropes. I'd love to stop by a set and 2nd or 3rd for a day, but even an email dialogue with a successful local mixer would be awesome. Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks.

Hi all, Adam Sanchez here. I'm an IATSE 52 sound utility and boom op with over 9 years in the business in NYC and Philadelphia. My wife has just received an acceptance letter to UBC. It looks like there's a good chance we're on the move. Any friendly Canadians out there want to give me some advice (other than 'go away' or 'F.O.')? A

Here are three jobs in three different locations that my son is producing. He requires local mixers only. Please PM your contact info to me and I will forward it on to the production manager. If you know a good production assistant your can recommend that would be great too. This involves college football. There will be more of these as the season progresses. Right, listen up folks, this could be good for all of us! I have a Cameraman friend who runs a pretty busy forum for camera folks, and he's noticing more and more posts asking for Sound Folk in specific locations, it's the notion of Post Code Recordist I suppose, people don't want to travel us. Anyway, He wants me, and he, to compile a list of recordists (it's mainly doc stuff) That can sit on the forum, so people can browse and look for recordists where ever they're shooting, instead of constantly asking for recommendations in a particular location. If you want to be involved, message me and I'll forward you an email address to send your details to. I make no promises wh…

from one of my students: " ...Then you took us outside and we all had a chance to test out booming. That class really got to me and I wanted to thank you. Ever since I have tried to boom on all the movies I can. But as my graduation day is approaching I am getting interesting in taking some sort of internship. Specially because since I am an international student once I graduate I will have to leave the USA. So I was wondering ... if you know anybody that needs a boom operator that is willing to work for free. I just want to get experience and hopefully an internship that will possibly lead to a job. Any help you can give me will be immensely appreciated. Thank you for …

Suggested by Mick Fowler, I have put up a section here called "Work Available - Available for Work" where people can post possible job opportunities for our members and members can post their availability for work when they are looking for a job. Some possible uses of this area would be a post about a job that you cannot do but would like to recommend someone to your client, or possibly a job you may have heard about that isn't in your area, and so forth. Also, members who are not working, and of course would really like to be working, can post their availability, the sort of work they do, union affiliation and where they are located (or where they are willing to travel).…

Hi, a friend of mine is a Post supervisor for a small feature here in Ontario, Canada. She is looking for somebody interested in editing dialogue and creating a mix for this film. Not a lot of money but (overused term alert) it is a good stepping stone. I have heard some rushes and the location dialogue sounds quite good. Please contact Janine at janine.oloman@gmail.com

A DP friend of mine is looking for a Narrative Sound Mixer in Virginia for a feature length film project. I don't know much in the way of details, but I would like to be able to pass some peoples info along. I enjoyed working with him when he was living in Los Angeles, but he moved to VA a few years ago. Either way he is fun to work with. Please PM me if you or someone you know lives in the area. Thanks!

07/14/12 We are looking for a sound person with their own equipment for our micro-budget feature film shooting mostly in Jersey City in mid-late July. We have successfully completed our online fundraising and have raised enough money to pull it off, though everyone involved is working for under what they would on a corporate project or higher budget. This is a passion project, a small, indie romantic comedy in the vein of Edward Burns, Woody Allen, The Duplass Brothers. If you're looking for a cool film to be a part of and want to work with professionals who have their stuff together, understand the value of your time, and are talented people…

"Shooting a micro-budget horror feature in a couple of months and looking to find a sound mixer with some gear. If you respond to this post without placing DAMN RIGHT in the subject line, I'll know you didn't even bother to read everything. Sorry to sound assholish but people respond without reading and then complain about what's being asked of them. Looking for a sound mixer/boom op with some gear that is compatible with the 5D and 7D by Canon as that's what we're shooting on. If you have lavs, better - that way we don't need the boom. This is a 10-day shoot on location. Lodging is provided. Meals provided. Gas reimbursement if you decide to drive. And the pay is $500 fo…

Would love to find a project starting after March 30th. I have not done much networking over the years as I have stayed pretty busy. So, i hear " I always think you are busy" from a lot of people. I'm taking this opportunity to maybe meet some new people or re connect with some old friends. This is my IMDB --http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0183304/reference for reference. I live and work in LA but of course have worked through out the US and many other countries and am free and love to travel. Looking forward to any responses.
