Apple on Tuesday announced a brand-new redesign of the Mac mini, its low-cost desktop system. Besides an entirely new form factor, the new mini now sports an HDMI video port, a new graphics processor, and an SD card slot. Solar Charger For iPhone Swiftly Sucks Up The SunThe very concept of keeping an iPhone fully charged? Laughable. But using the sun as a power source? That's positively preposterous. Apparently crazy is on the menu over at Dexim HQ. Their new solar-powered P-Flip promises to juice an iPhone's talk time up to eight hours. The rigging basically looks like a bulky black and camouflage case. You slide the iPhone in (there's a version for BlackBerry schlepers too) and the panels soak up sunlight and transfer it over to the phone's power-hungry battery. Tested the timecode stability a software timecode generator on an iPod Touch 3G. Downloaded Pocket Sync, a timecoode generator app from France: http://www.polytonic.fr/ Set Pocket Sync to 25fps / 48KHz. Jammed a GPS calibrated Ambient Master Controller to the Pocket Sync signal via the headphone jack. Drift was approx +0.9 frame per hour. Set Pocket Sync to 30fps / 48KHz. Drift was approx +1.2 frame per hour. Set Pocket Sync to 24fps / 44.1KHz. Drift was approx +0.6 frame per minute! Pocket Sync 29.97 shows up as 30fps drop. Is anyone out there using a netbook hackintosh for simple file management or non-critical playback? I recently got OSX running on a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v and so far it appears to work pretty well. A 10" laptop with 6-hour battery that fits on a cart nicely and can be found used for less than the price of a lavalier mic. Is this all too good to be true?
