The Next Web writes of a speech Jobs gave in 1983 at the Center for Design innovation. After that speech, he had a question-and-answer session that covered a wide range of topics, one of which was an incredibly detailed assessment of Jobs' vision for a "computer in a book" that one could learn how to use in 20 minutes. "Apple’s strategy is really simple. What we want to do is we want to put an incredibly great computer in a book that you can carry around with you and learn how to use in 20 minutes. That’s what we want to do and we want to do it this decade," says Jobs. "And we really want to do it with a radio link in it so you don’t have to hook up to anything and …

Prominent British international business newspaper Financial Times today announced that it has selected Apple CEO Steve Jobs as its "Person of the Year" for 2010, marking yet another accolade for the company and its leader that have seen remarkable success over the last decade. A rebuttal of F. Scott Fitzgerald's much-quoted aphorism that there are no second acts in American life does not come more decisively than this. When Steven Paul Jobs first hit the headlines, he was younger even than Mark Zuckerberg is now. Long before it was cool to be a nerd, his formative role in popularising the personal computer, and Apple's initial public offering on Wall Street - which ca…

Check out this astounding summary of a guy's small-claims court case against Apple for failures in his MacBook Pro and Apple's response to his problem. "Rex earlier this week published a lengthy blog post outlining his experience facing off against two Apple lawyers last week and winning an unspecified sum sufficient to purchase a new computer." Mac Rumors summary: http://www.macrumors.com/2012/04/19/blogger-victorious-over-apple-in-small-claims-case-on-nvidia-gpu-failures/ Seattle Rex's long (but well-written) blog post: http://www.seattlerex.com/seattle-rex-vs-apple-the-verdict-is-in/ If Rex has accurately reported what happened... man... http://www.wired.com/design/2013/09/how-ios-7-paves-the-way-for-a-golden-age-of-apps/ How iOS 7 Will Spark a Boom in App Design BY KYLE VANHEMERT09.23.136:30 AM If you want to see the future of apps, look to Apple’s new stock apps. Photo: Ariel Zambelich / WIRED You probably feel strongly about iOS 7. Maybe you love it. Maybe you hate it. Maybe you just can’t get over that Safari icon (what were they thinking!?). But change is polarizing, and this is a fairly big change, so the general freak-out is understandable. Soon enough, though, you’ll get used to it, and iOS 6 will be the one that looks weird. But the shake-up won’t end this week. Apple’s new OS isn’t ju…

It can now be said, my son David (aka strangeloop) was part of an Apple commercial which has just been aired (so the veil of secrecy that surrounds all Apple commercials is removed). David's visuals for Flying Lotus come at the climactic end of the commercial. Apple Pays Tribute to Sound Innovations in New Ad After Music Service Launch On Monday, Apple debuted its “History of Sound” commercial, a tribute to 127 years of sound innovations (including a nod to Apple’s iPod products), to promote the new Apple Music service. The spot has aired on national TV three times — once each on ABC, NBC and ESPN, according data from to iSpot — and has generated more than 129,000 o…

MacPro Sales To Stop March 1 in EU Countries If you live in a country under the European Union and you were thinking of purchasing a Mac Pro, do it before March 1st. Apple told reseller and channel partners recently that it would stop all sales of the desktop system on March 1st to comply with new EU regulatory standards. IEC 609501 Amendment 1, covers safety and electrical standards as they relate to electrical equipment and unfortunately for EU customers, the Mac Pro does not comply with this standard, due to issues with power provided to its I/O ports and the placement of its fan guards. The MacPro is the only Apple product to fall under this ruling, becau…

I know some of you use them on your cart, so maybe you found something. I'm looking for something like a Pelican case for a full sized iPad when I throw it in (soft) luggage for travel. I don't mean an Otterbox, because I want to protect the screen. I have the Apple magic cover thing and a rubber/silicon-like bottom cover. Despite Pelican's site saying their case works with those, all the reviews say otherwise. Sound like I could buy a Pelican and immediately cut up the innards, but if there is a better option, I would love to hear. When I fly I *usually* take it with me on the plane, but often we pile luggage and equipment in the back of a cargo van, and that's wher…

For anyone who has updated from an iPhone 4s to the 5s how much of an improvement are you experiencing with the newer phones battery times? Some real world tests I have read claim they are about the same while Apple claims an increase in battery life with the 5s.

Hi all, I´m building a bag for doco work where using an Ipad hardwired to Tc out of the 664 as a TC display. I want this to replace the Betso TCD-1. I found the app to correct the ipad offset and bought the ambient cable already. So now the thing is how to grip the ipad to the front of my petrol bag (PEGZ 1). I´m thinking about an ipad case with a female slot in the back side, and sew the male part of the case to the bag. I´ve seen some iphone cases that works this way. i suppose the point is for gripping the iphone to the car´s dashboard and use it as GPS. Do any of you know if something like that exists fo the ipad?

There is a major security flaw in the software for Apple phones, the company announced Friday night. If you've logged onto WiFi from a coffee shop, hotel, airport or other public space, you could be at risk. "At this early stage, the vulnerability has been confirmed in iOS versions 6.1.5, 7.0.4, and 7.0.5, and OS X 10.9.0 and 10.9.1, meaning it has silently exposed the sensitive communications of millions of people for weeks or months," reported Arts Technica. For the time being, Mac users should not log in through insecure or public networks. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/apple-iphone-and-mac-users-need-to-update-security-asap/ The recently-announced flaw in…
