Great story in the current issue of The New York Times on the first iPhone demo from 2007. It turns out that the phone barely worked, a lot of the demo was rigged, and backstage, the Apple engineers were terrified that all or part of the demo would blow up in everybody's faces. Incredibly, the (carefully staged and planned) demo went off perfectly, Steve Jobs was happy, and the iPhone went on to become one of the greatest successes in electronics history. It took 2-1/2 years of R&D and more than $150 million just to create the first prototype, according to the article. Anyone tried Movie Slate on IOS7 yet? Their site says they've been working on an IOS7 version all summer, but it doesn't seem to be out yet. I'm wondering if the current version works well on 7?

How iOS 7 Will Spark a Boom in App Design BY KYLE VANHEMERT09.23.136:30 AM If you want to see the future of apps, look to Apple’s new stock apps. Photo: Ariel Zambelich / WIRED You probably feel strongly about iOS 7. Maybe you love it. Maybe you hate it. Maybe you just can’t get over that Safari icon (what were they thinking!?). But change is polarizing, and this is a fairly big change, so the general freak-out is understandable. Soon enough, though, you’ll get used to it, and iOS 6 will be the one that looks weird. But the shake-up won’t end this week. Apple’s new OS isn’t just a wham-bam makeover–at least, it isn’t only that. In months and even years to come, iO…

So iOS 7 rolled out last night, and I made the jump and decided to put it on my iPad 2. The installation process was painful: Apple's servers were so clogged, it took the better part of 90 minutes to get the update, then wait endlessly for the device to reboot. Once I re-entered all the password information, I pulled up the new iTunes and fired up iTunes Radio... and it sounded horrible. Hideous distortion, clipped, compressed, the works, just unlistenable by any mammals on earth. Resisting the desperate urge to panic, I did a quick Google search on "iTunes Radio Distortion," and sure enough, a few hundred other people had the same problem. The solution: reboot yet ag…

Microsoft has never learned how to compete --- try making "insanely great products" for a change. The latest ads, surely in bad taste (and Microsoft has pulled the videos from YouTube today) If the executive in the videos is intended to resemble Steve Jobs, then they would appear to be in very poor taste. It's not at all clear how the videos -- which don't ever explain how Windows Phone is better than iOS -- help Microsoft achieve its stated goal of getting users to switch to its platform. http://youtu.be/avO5FXj7K-c Microsoft gave this statement to The Next Web: "The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off …

Hello everyone, Many of us wanted use the large venue frequency coordination software, Intermodulation Analysis System, on our Macs (some of us resorting to VMWare to do so). And now we can! A recent update to the popular MacOS/Linux utilities, Wine and Wineskin, which are used to run windows programs, has enabled near full functionality of IAS on a Mac computer. I have posted a guide to install it at this link: http://newendian.com/index.php?title=IAS_for_Mac The only major thing that doesn't work (that I've found), is the intermod product graphs at the bottom of the screen. A proper license is of course required (some people may need to contact Professional Wi…

"A pair of former Apple Retail employees have filed a class action lawsuit against Apple for lost wages. The lawsuit stems from an Apple retail policy that requires employees have their personal bags and purses inspected by managers before leaving the store for breaks, lunches and at the end of a shift. The lawsuit alleges that employees are made to wait -- off the clock -- for as long as 5 to 15 minutes per shift while waiting for a manager to inspect their belongings for stolen property. The policy is in effect at all Apple Retail stores and could potentially affect thousands of employees going back more than 10 years." Rest of the story along with a copy of the c…

Trouble Reading On That Tiny IPhone? Apple Experiments With XL Screens For Tablet, Smartphone Apple may be supersizing its iPad and iPhone, exploring a larger variety of screen sizes to diversify the mobile device market. The Cupertino company said its Asian suppliers are testing a 13-inch iPad and smartphones measuring larger than four inches, according to the Wall Street Journal. With the grande iPad, Apple reverses direction from its most recent iPad invention — the 7.9-inch Mini, which was released in November and touted as the first tablet that could fit easily into a pocket or purse. Even before the tablet hit stores, retailers were selling cases, purses …

Hi all, I´m building a bag for doco work where using an Ipad hardwired to Tc out of the 664 as a TC display. I want this to replace the Betso TCD-1. I found the app to correct the ipad offset and bought the ambient cable already. So now the thing is how to grip the ipad to the front of my petrol bag (PEGZ 1). I´m thinking about an ipad case with a female slot in the back side, and sew the male part of the case to the bag. I´ve seen some iphone cases that works this way. i suppose the point is for gripping the iphone to the car´s dashboard and use it as GPS. Do any of you know if something like that exists fo the ipad?

Rumor Suggests Replacement for Mac Pro Due in April or May Monday April 8, 2013 1:03 pm PDT by Jordan Golson MacDailyNews, which does not have much of a track record on rumors, says one of itssources said Apple will announce a replacement to the Mac Pro at some point in the next several months. Apple will announce its replacement for the company’s Mac Pro lineup this month, a source who has been correct about Apple product matters in the past has just informed us. Our source offered no information as to whether the "Mac Pro replacement" would be a tower, mini-tower, or some other solution, but did caution that the announcement "could slip into May or even…

My six year old dumb phone may be on it's last leg and a replacement looks imminent. I've held off purchasing a smart phone for years because the last thing I want is a "yuppie status badge" and a carrier holding a gun to my head with their data package. Ahhh . . . I feel better getting that off my chest. That being said I know smartphones are a great tool and the time has come for me to maintain better contact with my crew members. Should I get a new iPhone5 or the iPhone 4S? Features aren't super important to me, but best value-- not necessarily cheapest cost--for technology and ease of keeping in touch are what's important. Any input greatly appreciate…

I know some of you use them on your cart, so maybe you found something. I'm looking for something like a Pelican case for a full sized iPad when I throw it in (soft) luggage for travel. I don't mean an Otterbox, because I want to protect the screen. I have the Apple magic cover thing and a rubber/silicon-like bottom cover. Despite Pelican's site saying their case works with those, all the reviews say otherwise. Sound like I could buy a Pelican and immediately cut up the innards, but if there is a better option, I would love to hear. When I fly I *usually* take it with me on the plane, but often we pile luggage and equipment in the back of a cargo van, and that's wher…

MacPro Sales To Stop March 1 in EU Countries If you live in a country under the European Union and you were thinking of purchasing a Mac Pro, do it before March 1st. Apple told reseller and channel partners recently that it would stop all sales of the desktop system on March 1st to comply with new EU regulatory standards. IEC 609501 Amendment 1, covers safety and electrical standards as they relate to electrical equipment and unfortunately for EU customers, the Mac Pro does not comply with this standard, due to issues with power provided to its I/O ports and the placement of its fan guards. The MacPro is the only Apple product to fall under this ruling, becau…

How about making my lightning cable actually lightening by making it plug into my currently unused and hyper speed thunderbolt port. at 10gbps theoretically I could sync my entire music library to my 64gb iPhone and iPad in approximately 30 seconds lol.

Almost one entire year ago, there was a thread about "underage" Chinese factory workers making Apple products, and I was inspired to write some song parody lyrics to the tune of Tennessee Ernie Ford's classic labor song, "16 Tons". Mike Filosa, Crew Chamberlain, and Tom Taylor encouraged me to do something with it, and it took me an entire fucking year to produce the music video for what is now the song parody "16 Yuan". It's not about bashing Apple, it's about the conspicuous consumerism and colonialist attitudes that feed this side of that Chinese factory equation. Most of all it's a song parody, because I'm reasonably sure that's the most protected by law...lol. …

Thought you guys would have a suggestion. I play music through the aux channel/headphone out of my iphone. While playing with various car chargers I always get a pretty noise ground loop (not sure what to call when a car is involved). I drive a newer car so don't think it's crappy power. I assume most non audio people don't hear it. Any recommendations?
