Anybody ever seen this happen when they boot up their laptop? As much as I'd like to go shopping for a new laptop, I should probably see if this is something that can be fixed. Cheers, Jase

I was happy to see that there is an exposed anchor... I heard that Steve wanted such a minimalist clean line that the unsightly opening for the anchor would not be acceptable. All kidding aside, this is an amazing design for a yacht but I agree that it looks a little like an Apple Store on water. - article - Project took years, features innovative look An endeavour to design a world-class yacht for his family to use, one of the later projects of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs' life, has finally been completed after years of work and was christened by the Jobs family as "Venus" in a ceremony in Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. Various Dutch Mac sites have poste…

How the iPod and Other Audio Devices Are Destroying Your Ears By Sara J. Martinez Damage from music is not always permanent, but some audiologists have seen mp3-inflicted issues so strong that hearing aids were needed Portable music players may be contributing to permanent hearing loss among many casual listeners, gradually leading to the inability to discern speech. An iPod's maximum volume is more than 10 times as loud as the recommended listening setting, audiologists say, and the sensory damage caused by prolonged listening is irreversible. Since the iPod was introduced in 2001, hearing loss has been an obvious problem among young patients of Brian Fli…

Hi all, I´m building a bag for doco work where using an Ipad hardwired to Tc out of the 664 as a TC display. I want this to replace the Betso TCD-1. I found the app to correct the ipad offset and bought the ambient cable already. So now the thing is how to grip the ipad to the front of my petrol bag (PEGZ 1). I´m thinking about an ipad case with a female slot in the back side, and sew the male part of the case to the bag. I´ve seen some iphone cases that works this way. i suppose the point is for gripping the iphone to the car´s dashboard and use it as GPS. Do any of you know if something like that exists fo the ipad?

I love to see both these stories in the financial news today. I know the general consensus amongst most people is that market cap and profitability are intrinsically good --- what a company decides to do with their wealth is what is really important. Apple Inc. has become the first U.S. company to close with a market cap of more than $700 billion, nearly doubling the market cap of its closest rival, Exxon Mobil. Apple’s share price closed nearly 2 points up at $122.02 with a market cap of $710.72 billion on the NASDAQ exchange. At more than $700 billion, Apple is twice as valuable as Microsoft ($349.6 billion); Exxon closed with a market cap of $384.32 billion. …

Anyone tried Movie Slate on IOS7 yet? Their site says they've been working on an IOS7 version all summer, but it doesn't seem to be out yet. I'm wondering if the current version works well on 7?

Great story in the current issue of The New York Times on the first iPhone demo from 2007. It turns out that the phone barely worked, a lot of the demo was rigged, and backstage, the Apple engineers were terrified that all or part of the demo would blow up in everybody's faces. Incredibly, the (carefully staged and planned) demo went off perfectly, Steve Jobs was happy, and the iPhone went on to become one of the greatest successes in electronics history. It took 2-1/2 years of R&D and more than $150 million just to create the first prototype, according to the article. Apple has put the previous version of its Final Cut Studio video editing suite back on sale after a mixed reception to the new and completely redesigned Final Cut X. Word has it that Apple had issued a memo this afternoon announcing re-availability of the product. It has been confirmed with an Apple telesales representative at 800-MY-APPLE that Final Cut Studio, part number MB642Z/A, is again available for $999 (and $899 for educational customers). The product is only available through the 800-number and is not available in Apple Retail Stores or on the Apple Online Store.

-from MacRumors site: Today marks the seventh anniversary of the introduction of the iPhone, a presentation that took place as part of the keynote of Macworld Expo 2007 in San Francisco. While the device would not launch until over six months later, that presentation offered the public the first glimpse of what Steve Jobs introduced as three devices in one: a touchscreen iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator. "Today, we're introducing three revolutionary products. The first one is a widescreen iPod with touch controls. The second is a revolutionary mobile phone. And the third is a breakthrough Internet communications device. So, three things: a widescreen iP…

Hybrid tech site and store MIC Gadget this week quietly unwrapped an adapter to give iPad and iPad 2 owners much-requested card format support. The CF Card Reader for iPad lets photographers with higher-end DSLRs and some older compact cameras load photos and videos directly to either of iPad. Format support on Apple's tablet is currently the limiting factor and currently excludes RAW photos as well as some video formats, primarily those that exceed Apple's official 720p, 30FPS video limit. The reader does take modern UDMA-capable cards, although it will be capped at the USB 2.0 port's speeds. A regular-sized USB port is built-in and will take any device that uses 20mA…

Microsoft has never learned how to compete --- try making "insanely great products" for a change. The latest ads, surely in bad taste (and Microsoft has pulled the videos from YouTube today) If the executive in the videos is intended to resemble Steve Jobs, then they would appear to be in very poor taste. It's not at all clear how the videos -- which don't ever explain how Windows Phone is better than iOS -- help Microsoft achieve its stated goal of getting users to switch to its platform. http://youtu.be/avO5FXj7K-c Microsoft gave this statement to The Next Web: "The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off …

Tested the timecode stability a software timecode generator on an iPod Touch 3G. Downloaded Pocket Sync, a timecoode generator app from France: http://www.polytonic.fr/ Set Pocket Sync to 25fps / 48KHz. Jammed a GPS calibrated Ambient Master Controller to the Pocket Sync signal via the headphone jack. Drift was approx +0.9 frame per hour. Set Pocket Sync to 30fps / 48KHz. Drift was approx +1.2 frame per hour. Set Pocket Sync to 24fps / 44.1KHz. Drift was approx +0.6 frame per minute! Pocket Sync 29.97 shows up as 30fps drop. Perhaps there are math division errors in dividing the sample clock by the timecode rate. C…

I'm wirelessly running a Brother MFC-J435 all in one printer on my iMac (OS 10.5.. I can print just fine, but I can't access any of the other functions on my computer (scanning, fax etc) because the Control Center (interface between the printer and the computer) won't load up. It's been this way since I got it. Just haven't needed the other functions till now. I reloaded the included software and got the latest firmware installed as well. I click on the Control Center icon and it just sits there. Tried all the other ways of opening as well. All the other included software opens just fine. Any thoughts? Bernie

MacPro Sales To Stop March 1 in EU Countries If you live in a country under the European Union and you were thinking of purchasing a Mac Pro, do it before March 1st. Apple told reseller and channel partners recently that it would stop all sales of the desktop system on March 1st to comply with new EU regulatory standards. IEC 609501 Amendment 1, covers safety and electrical standards as they relate to electrical equipment and unfortunately for EU customers, the Mac Pro does not comply with this standard, due to issues with power provided to its I/O ports and the placement of its fan guards. The MacPro is the only Apple product to fall under this ruling, becau…
