Hello all - for some time, I've been trying to get a quick setup car rig working and sounding right, for those times when I want to use my MKH50 or 8040 for car dialogue (either standalone or to supplement lavs in the visors). The lavs in visors work fine enough, although I'm not fussy on the sound reflecting back from the glass. And we all know that the challenge of putting a mic lower in the car is battling more road noise and bumps. Clamps or suction cups, for me anyways, are always a bit hit or miss...they may be in the way of a camera in the passenger seat, or they transmit road vibrations too much for my liking. So I've build a dual shockmou…

Today I finally received a package with a 3d-print of a sunhood for the Wisycom MCR42 that I designed a few days ago. Maybe some of you are interested to 3d-print it yourself or make changes on the actual desgin (https://www.tinkercad.com/things/gixHGct25vD). It simply clips onto the wider part of the MCR housing and it seems like it doesn't do any damage by applying too much pressure to the MCR42. So far it's only a prototype and is not intended to work with something like the superslot or any other rackmount (though it could be altered).

Thinking about adding a second battery connector so that I can hot swap batteries without bringing the bag down. I was considering using diodes to isolate the batteries, but I don't want the voltage drop that would bring. Do I even need isolation? I don't want to run both batteries at the same time, just connect a second then disconnect the first.

Just a quick showcase of an idea I've been toying with lately. I'm thinking of this as a sort of sub-distro and it will hang off the main BDS (or could easily be stand alone if need be). It's a pretty simple device; just a poly fuse on each output.

Just was wondering if anyone has any experience with soldering different connectors on the Sanken CUB-01. Im thinking of just buying it without any connectors and putting my own 3pin XLR-M. Is there anything in particular to look out for soldering wise? Or is it just straight forward 1 to 1, 2 to 2, and 3 to 3? As far as XLR is concerned.

I've been micing singers for operas over the past couple years, using lectrosonics transmitters with DPA 4071s. Does anyone have experience with Leukoflex? Is it preferable to 3M surgical tape? Thanks, B

Hey all - Has anyone discovered a way to mount a 5/8 baby pin on a standard 19" rack (which uses 10-32 screws)? I'd love to add a monitor arm to my Yamaha 01V96i mixer rack, but I can't seem to find a way to mount one on the rack rails. Thanks! -Mike

I've heard that you can get Comtek to mod M-216 transmitter to have the BNC antenna connector so it essentially becomes an Option P7. Has anyone done this mod themselves? How do you open the transmitter case without breaking it. Does anyone know the part number for the BNC connector?

I have some cables that are balanced 3.5mm jack to female XLR that I used for old RED cameras with 3.5mm audio input jack (why oh why RED?). One of the 3.5mm jack broke so I cut it off and stripped back the insulation to replace the 3.5mm jack and what I discovered has me baffled. Inside were 3 conductors as you would expect, but they don’t seem to be insulated in any way from each other. I am so confused as to how the cable works when the conductors are just running together with nothing separating them. Can anyone with electronics knowledge explain how this would be possible? Perhaps a coating? But even so it would be very thin and prone to failure I imagine. Never has …

hi all, for a wildlife documentary, i am researching possibilities for longtime mic-installations in full out weather... as this sounds like quite a contradiction, i wonder if anyone of you has experience to share regarding this topic. the mics ( at least the capsules ) will be high up in trees, installed by crane, as are some endoscopic cameras. everything is cabled down to ground for signal, powering etc. once breeding season starts, we cant get close anymore. i am posting in the diy section, because i think the solutions from the shelf will not work here....

Curious if any of you guys have found any unexpected "household" items that can be repurposed somehow for live sound applications (ie. on the road, in the shop, load in, etc). Always on the look for useful hacks! Thanks

Designed and 3D printed a "knob extender" for my MixPre-6. Even thick headphone jack connector still fits, but the knob has a better grip and is easier to reach when operated in a bag. Download the .stl file (for 3D printing) here: http://knowledge.lom.audio/research/mixpre_knob Or get it from our company here: https://lom-label.myshopify.com/products/mixpre-knob

So, I recently acquired a Nagra III, and was wondering if anyone had access to a service manual (not operators manual). I suspect a re-cap is in order, but I could have larger problems as well. Everything runs fine in rewind, but in PB and Rec, the motor winds itself down after exactly 10 seconds. Beyond that... Biasing, modulometer calibration, yada yada yada Thanks in advance! Wyatt

I've recently picked up an HMA for a project and will be making a couple low profile cables to go from the mic end to the plug on which will be at the top of the pole. Whats your preferred cable gauge for this? Already have some Canare L-4E6S, but was considering a thinner gauge star quad cable for an even smaller profile. Would the thicker cable gauge provide better shielding against potential RF interference? Im sure it has its plus's for being more resistant to wear and tear. Curious as to what others have been doing.

Hey everyone, Can anyone shed some light on proper grounding techniques when wiring up a sound bag? Is the usual one-path-to-ground rule still the best approach to constructing a bag that is as quiet as possible? Perhaps centred around the mixer/recorder with the shields floated at the receiver end?

Hi, Here is my DIY BDS. It has 5 switches which are wired like this : 1) Master switch : activate all the other switches + voltage/current display + back usb output (to charge tablet/phone for wingman) 2) one Hirose for recorder 3) two Hirose for wireless mic and IFB 4) One hirose + one DC jack for video monitors and other stuff 5) One USB output (for a small light or a fan : I live in west Africa) It has 2 inputs : -1 hirose -1 dc jack I am mainly using modded Talentcell battery, so I can use and charge the battery at the same time. The voltage is regulated at 12V. Each output is…

I want an RX Emergency Two to use with my 302, but can't justify the $200 cost. I looked at the tech notes from Sound Devices about connecting to the mix in, but don't know how a variable resistor will interact with the resistor network they recommend. I decided to compromise and build inputs that would connect to the camera returns; this way my controls are "faders" and the trims on the 302 are "gains". Plus I can change the channel 4/5 signal routing in the 302 and not have to add external switches. The box is incredibly simple; Neutrik combo XLR/TRS input jacks, Bournes 10k log taper pots, and a 3.5mm output: …

..a few pics of a recent little DIY project... Got a CMIT. I didn't feel like buying a new basket/windjammer, and hauling two around, so I DIY'd the parts I needed. The old black one on the left held the 416. The newly minted one next to it holds the new lime flavored CMIT. The durometer of the rubber bars was a trick to match, and I broke it three times in search of an adhesive that would bond the rubber bars securely to the nylon and aluminum (I'll skip the aluminum on the next one). The two rails are made of thick walled stainless steel tubing, and are seriously strong. All of my mismatched 1/4"-20 set screws bug me. The wind's howl…

What cable do you use for making proper tc cable? I have best results when using mic cable from a multicore I don't need any more. They work best on the lemo side but i struggle sometimes to get it nice on the bnc side. To solder the shield on the bnc shell works but doesn't look nice. Using a 50 Ohm bnc works well on that connector but sucks soldering on to the lemo 5pin... Best regards!

Hi All, I want to make an dolly extension for my Beta cable system not including fan tail. OSC 8 on each end running from my 18" camera fan to drivers end of the dolly. Any suggestion on the "perfect" catch all length? Was thinking about 8' or 10' but thought I'd check with the communal knowledge base here for suggestion first. Thanks

I was looking for a cheap cart that can fit all sorts of types of work. I found the rolling workshop of STANLEY, they have several models and sizes that one could fit my needs. Most of the time I work with Harness so I chose this model because it is modular and can be used for all kinds of jobs. Improvements: I add small wheels in the front. I'll find something better to the antennas.
