Hi all, I need to wired up a bunch of Sennheiser HSP-4 headsets for 5-pin Lectrosonics. I have done plenty of 2-wire Sennheiser lavs, but when I popped the lid on these headsets I found three wires (gasp!). Red, Blue and Copper shield. It isn't something I am familiar with. Is it just a case of wiring to figure 11? (1 = copper, 3 = blue, 5 = red)?

I spent enough years using lead solder in my youth. And now, even with a small fume extractor, I just don't want to use lead solder anymore. Alas, the lead-free ones I've tried are a bit trickier to use. Perhaps I need to improve and/or tweak my technique. Or perhaps I'd prefer a different lead-free solder. I'm up for trying flux-core or solid if that'll help... I'm most familiar with Kester, but have no brand loyalty on this. I'm mainly making cables, soldering basic components to PCBs, and doing some fun point-to-point stuff. (So ya, cables for work. Guitar pedals and amps for fun (and I may try a couple synth modules, too) Kester 275 No-Clean Fl…

Firstly, these are the locations where the live concerts and recording jobs would take place: #1 #2 #3 As you can see, if we were to arrange the main microphones in the middle of the concert hall, this would detract from the perception of the audience. However, apparently, I can't punch holes in the walls of these rooms for microphone hookups, which would result in a huge claim for money and my expulsion from school So, my current idea is to use a pair of very tall microphone stands (such as K&M 20811), place them at the very edge of the venue, and then use a wire and suspend th…

I have several boom poles one of which is a VDB that i have since stopped using for quite a while. In my quest to find a boom pole to stuff in a carry-on I settled on a K-tek traveler i already have, not the greatest but it’s fit my needs for this particular travel job. The smaller VDB‘s were out of stock and it’s unknown when they will become available at present time where i had checked recently. Looking at this boom pole I have on hand the idea hit me that may be in its fully folded state I could potentially chop it off to a new desired length and retro fit a rubber boot at the bottom and engineer some sort of replacement stoppers inside on each inner tube. h…

I have of course been inspired by Mr. Pascal here. And the boom/antenna holder itself have been discussed before but maybe not in this way. I don't know where the mods will stop but here is the first: Toolflex is the company that makes these products. I cut the aluminum rail and mounted them on the side of the case. There are 4 versions of them. 15-20mm, 20-30mm, 25-35mm and 30-40mm. The good thing is that they can easily slide off, in case of flight or other transports. Skickas från min iPhone via Tapatalk

I'm traveling around with my peli air 1637 case and would love to have a 4 wheel kit for this case. It seems the Peli 0500 castor wheel kit not compatible with this case, so I'm thinking to make wheel plates and attach swivel wheels. I think I can install 4 wheels and only drill in the bottom handle parts and original wheel holders and rather not drill in the bottom of my case. Would you recommend small 3 inch or big wheels 10 inch for a case that weighs 33kg (73 pounds) full for going on planes and trains and curbs in between? And for the cab rides in between, it could be handy that the wheels are quickly removable. All advice and experi…

Hi, The SD MixPre-10t is a great machine, but I missed a mic to talk with the boomop. As the inputs 9-10 can provide pip, I built a small talkback box. I used one of the stock microphone I got with sony uwp d-11 (I am using Sanken cos-11), a switch I got from an old cheap solder iron and a 3d printer. It is pluged on inupt 9. It works well, I haven't tried it in a live situation yet. It is then sent on output 2 with the boom to the boomop. On the downside : - you can't send input 9 or 10 in prefader mode (as there's no fader for it), so I have to route it on the right channel. It means I can't send anything else on the ri…

Has anybody seen these in person? I was looking at another type of tool cart for a home use, and these came up in a search. Got me thinking, as interesting carts usually do. The two models seem like they could be easily adapted to our needs. Adding larger wheels would be my immediate improvement. I know people have discussed tool chests/carts as follow carts before, but the welding carts seem to be just slightly more suitable to what we do. The handles, work surface on top, and flat area between the large wheels (to mount boom pole cups on) seem pretty nice. Could be a wobbly piece of junk though for that price.... http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200395…

Hi all, I have a Senken Cos-11d lav mic that is currently terminated with an XLR that allows 48v phantom power. I want to change this to a Sennheiser-type 3.5mm TRS tip, but am getting mixed info from Sanken and Sennheiser. I own the G4 500 series wireless transmitter/receiver from Sennheiser (which is a balanced signal). Most literature — and in fact the wiring diagram Sanken sent me, is for the g3 unbalanced series. In this, it tells me to combine the ground and shield on the TRS side. But wouldn’t this unbalance my cos-11D? does anyone know the specific wiring for the G4 500 series Sennheisers that maintains a balanced signal. Or perhaps…

You know my stance on the current bags available so I have no other option then make my own “like my OneUnit bag” or to modify others. here is my Condor mod. so far I have removed the zipper and opened the bag top. Next I will sew closed cel foam on the back and bottom and will insert second zipper on all tree pockets. I am using blue tread for the Mock up so you see the mod. It will go black when I go to the sewing machine. Condor Deployment Bag (Black, 12 x 6 x 5.5-Inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003W96GG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rWOMDb7DN6JX7

It seems every walkthrough of how to do this mod ends with "cut your antenna length according to the Lectro guide" or "cut to the guide which came with your antenna." These antennas are from AliExpress, which I've seen recommended here and in other SMA mod guides and they don't come with a cut guide. My antenna basics question being, since the Gx antennas have no external metal shielding (rubber coated only), does the metal of the pack effectively become the shield? Does that determine the "start point" of length of the antenna? I know there's a certain allowable tolerance for how exacting you need to be with the length of the whips for these kits, but I'm just o…

Is there a device or a technique used to accurately measure different size DC plugs for devices? I want to make custom BDS cables for Devices that come with wall converters but having a tough time figuring out the different internal diameter and external length combos of the factory plugs accurately.

I have been using Redco TSG-1 cable for audio bag interconnections for a number of years based off of Eric Toline’s recommendation. I’m going to be connecting AES wireless to a Sound Devices XL-AES and see that Redco now carries a digital cable TSG-D1. I’m wondering if this is a different cable from the TSG-1 and if I can just use the non-digital cable on a very short run? I’ll probably call Redco but they aren’t open until Tuesday. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have any of you fine folks tried reading LTC from a raspberry pi? I'm mildly curious to see if I could make a timecode display driven by a Nanolockit.

I have an issue in my home studio set up where I think I have deduced to padded flooring that I walk across to get to my computer set up and then when I sit down and touch something connected via USB like a usb controller etc I get a shock and sometimes even one of my computer monitors will flash off and back on. I have tried to troubleshoot this online and I see a lot of explanations of why it’s caused but I don’t see many offers for solutions. I also suspect it’s because I have an iMac with a few devices connected like powered USB ports, but all tied to the same circuit as far as I recall. Does anyone have any suggestions how I might work towards a solution?

For those who roll their own video BNC cables what parts do you like to use? I’m currently using Belden 1505F cable with Canare connectors. Pretty happy with this combo overall. But every once and awhile the BNC locking ring breaks off. Anyone try out Neutrik’s reartwist BNCs?

I wrote an ultra long blog post that includes multiple tutorials on different mods and upgrades you can do to the folding Olympia Tools Service Cart. I’ve done a few of these on my cart and I’ve included some mods that others have also done. https://wavreport.com/2018/03/06/tutorial-uber-diy-olympia-cart-pimping/

i’m working on printing myself a dashboard for my 411As and considering making flanged faceplates with a lip to keep them in place (similar to how the SRs mount in dashboards) but have yet to find an STL or any other model. does anyone happen to have one handy they could give me before i set about trying to design one myself?

Hi, my favourite mini starquad of all time, the Belden 1804A, is out of stock and unreachable in Europe these days (unless somenone has a tip to a source that has stock in EU?). I need to make a bunch of TA3 cables and I don't have enough stock so I need to look for an alternative. I do not think there is such thing as an equivalent (=excellent starquad, 2.9mm Out. diameter, stronger than my shoelaces...) But a diameter up to 3.2mm alternative could do if performances are equivalent. 3.5 max. Any suggestion welcome. Anyone has tried the german Sommercable SC-CICADA 4 ? Would love some feedback. https://shop.sommercable.com/fr/Cabl…

I've wanted to make one of these for a while. Finally got a used Zuca bag for cheap. It was the Sport model with 4 rollerblade type wheels. I have since mounted two of those wheels so it can roll on its back for loading. I removed the wheels and put the foam filled disc golf cart wheels onto it. I used a bushing to fit a longer bolt through the larger wheel bearing rather than drilling a bigger hole in the frame. I did actually have to widen the frame hole a little bit. I extended the legs with aluminum tubing, perfect fit, with the bolt through it to keep it on. Rubber stoppers on bottom. To make the folding table, 8020 aluminum piece…

Hello everyone, sorry, I am sure it might be somewhere in the forum but I have been searching for hours unsuccessfully. Where can I find the reference of the female Lemo3 receptacle on the Wisycom transmitters (MPT40,41 and hopefully MPT60) ? So that if we want to search for a male plug on Lemo website we know if it will match. As we all know there are several options for the microphone male lemo3 plug , some prefer screw-on , some push-pull (FGB.00.303.CLAD35 if I am not mistaken), I want to make a list of all/several plug options. Thanks

I have a bunch of SMa transmitters with the fixed antenna and would love to switch them over to removable sma style. The last time I had them serviced I asked Lectro if they could do it but they said no (even though they used to have the SM E01 transmitters with the sma antenna....) so I was wondering if anyone here knew of a way to mod my transmitters. Cheers, Evan
