I've got a gig coming up where I'm going to use my NT-SF1 to record a music performance in surround and want to get some more distance between the mic and my bag. I reached out to Rode technical support and they were kind enough to give me the mic pinout, which is on a Neutrik 10 pin XLR. Much easier than beeping out the breakout cable I got my box o' parts from Redco today. 10 pin XLRs and a hunk of TGS-04: Done an hour later, checked out fine. Not the most difficult connectors I've worked on but took some planning to figure out the best connection order. Tested perfectly with the mic, now I have a nice 25' extension!

Hi guys I have a COS 11 that's intermittently crackly at the mic end (just where the cable enters the capsule) which tells me the cable is on it's way out. Has any one had the same problem and cut and rewired from that end or does this mean the demise of said mic? Is the cable moulded into the capsule and therefore irreparable or can I breath new life into it. The mic isn't that old and want to avoid buying another one if I can possibly help it.

I'd like to tidy up my charging case and found these daisy chain cables for guitar pedals. The problem is, that I can't find any product that specifies a maximum load. I need about 10A and even a bunch of pedals usually draw less.

For the past few months I have been using my Cantar Mini. I work bag and bag cart, so in my search for a Cantar Mini bag I found only three sources and none of them really did what I needed done in a bag. So I built two versions, the second is shown below in the photos. The first version shall never be seen in public. All of the metal work and sewing I did, so please don't judge me!! The Mini is not like any other recorder/mixer shape. So my design incorporates a frame much like the Aaton cheese plate offering. I wanted something fairly compact and have some features that I don't believe any other bag has. By making it triangul…

Not exactly a DIY, but rather can someone else DIY for me? I have a few Countryman B6 lav mics that I'd like to permanently convert from XLR to 3.5mm mini so I can use them with my Sennheiser AVX transmitters. Is this possible? If so, can anyone do this for me or do you have a recommendation of where I should them to? Thanks for any help.

Im considering modding an HM to 5pin in order to use a stereo Pianissimo setup while only taking the pins of the mid mic for wireless. Does anyone have any pics to share of an HM or HMA before I go in for exploratory surgery?

I want to make my own half-wave dipole for 216Mhz using a couple of SMA whips. What is not clear to me from literature: - What constitutes L in the diagram? Is it the total length, including the case (as implied by all the diagrams I've seen) or is it just the length of the whips? - If it is the latter, is case length crucial? - Can the case be metal or does it need to be an insulator? - A variable length dipole I bought has a resistor between the poles (200k). Is this necessary? The diagrams I looked at don't have one.

I decided it was time to improve my power distribution; I've been running multiple power supplies for my F8n and 302 and want to simplify things. I also want to be prepared for more bag work down the road. I'm trying to save money for mic upgrades, so I figured this would be a good place to go DIY. To give credit where it's due, I got the idea for the BDS here: https://henrirapp.com/diy-hirose-battery-distribution/ And grabbed the power meter circuit from here: https://learn.adafruit.com/pro-trinket-power-meter/overview?embeds=allow The hardest part of all this was getting the dimensions on the 3d printed remote housing correc…

Hello, does anyone has successful experiences of wiring cable of Wisycom MTP40S to PHA48 adapter? I carefully read through the manual, there has nothing of the wiring method.

So I'm coming across cameras with mini-XLR connectors. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema, Canon C70, probably more down the line. I'd like a way to add a mini-XLR to XLR-F adapter cable, but with some strain relief. Is there some way to connect the XLR-F to a camera cage or cheese plate or something? I know there's the Wooden Camera A-Box but I want a single XLR connector and something a bit smaller. I've poked through Mouser, Neutrik's site, and elsewhere but haven't come across anything else. Looking for something more stable than zip ties, less permanent than welding... Would love something someone else has already made, but I can assemble a cable if people just p…

I want to get a power supply for my BDS so I can run off AC power. Remote Audio make one but due to covid supplies are short and wait times long. I figure it wouldn’t be too hard to get a laptop power supply and solder on a TA4 connector. The Remote Audio ones are 12VDC 5A max, but does anyone know the power rating?

I am trying to solder LEMO 3pin connector for SSM transmitter soon. But I figured the pins inside LEMO are so tiny and the bigger problem is Cos11d's wire itself is so fragile and thin specially white wire. I searched here and there...but not easy answers for me. Anybody can give some tips?? Pre-soldered Lavs are kind expensive.

Wondering if anyone knows how to disassemble an HM. I've got a short in the connector. Shorts when moved. Trying to fix today for quick turn around. I'm hoping this is a simple broken wire or connection as the manual states "do not have the local repair shop attempt anything other than the simplest repair. If the repair is more complicated than a broken wire or loose connection, send the unit to the factory for repair and service."

Just curious if there is a small size product available or better yet if anyone has done a DIY project for sequencing power to devices from battery distribution. I am finding in a particular situation now that if I could flip the switch and then program power to a specific device to turn on 15 seconds later, it would work wonders. I have a furman M8S At home that sort of triggered the idea of it.

Hi, Just done a repair to a Sound Devices SD302 headphone socket. Was a fairly easy job. SD supplied the part to do the fix. Part numbers are on the pics. Remove side panel and XLRs from the SD302 and you should have enough space to work. The original socket had its PCB connector glued to the receptacle on the board. This glue comes off with a sharp flat driver. simply install the new PCB connector and do the reverse of the dismantle to re-assemble. Only thing I had to do was trim the heatshrink on the new socket to make it fit better.

Hi, I’d had a 4061 repaired by somebody a few years ago as it had been damaged at the capsule end. The repair held up for a little bit but eventually died again. at that point I gave it a go myself and have done a pretty solid repair of the mic now. the only thing is that the guy who did the original repair had removed the material(looks almost like wax) that DPA pot the capsule in. I’m looking to use the repaired mic as a “beater” mic for salt water shoots(I’ve got to mic up a jetski in a few weeks’ time), but I worry that my exposed solder joints won’t take too kindly to the prolonged exposure to salt water, no matter how ca…

AS NOTED BELOW, any use of this information in entirely AT YOUR OWN RISK and may damage your equipment. Being a huge nerd I simply had to try connecting in to my SRc via serial. I haven't had any luck finding a command reference from Lectro but I've been able to get it talking to my mac over USB, and I've figured out the serial equivalents of most of the menu items. I'll attach what I've found so far. The things I can't yet get to happen are IR sync, scanning, and smart tune. Some or all of this may be wrong, this is just an afternoon's hacking project. Feel free to correct me where needed. SRc (1).txt

I am a wedding DJ that takes a serious interest in ceremony sound. For some time now I have been loading up a Muver6 folding cart to house 2 to 3 SKB cases along with battery power, a pelican case, and a cable bag, and I am trying to get a bit more streamlined. What is funny is that I started thinking of a "big wheel" cart for this use before I was even aware that many pro film and other sound engineers have been doing this for a number of years. I ran across a thread here from way back in 2012 that more or less touches on the concept I am thinking about I work with modularity in mind. I have two mic "boxes" that I can go hot with up to 8 mics. Although t…

Hi all, I have a couple old COS11 that i don't use to mic people with anymore. The cable jacket got kinda stiff with the time and i switched to DPA for lav since a couple of films already. I do use them a lot in car rigs and i was thinking of modifying a couple to be a gooseneck mic which would be much faster to rig and adjust. I am now looking for a small gooseneck where i could feed the COS11 cable into, glue the mic on one end and solder the connector on the other. My question to you guys is has any of you already try this? With success or not? has anyone found the perfect gooseneck to realise this mod? I tried to use the gooseneck of these small Ikea USB LED…

For anyone interested, I've designed a couple of rack-mountable headphone hangers, one plain, one fancy. They have a 1U base and you can hang your headphones on them. You'll need a 3D printer, or a friend with a 3D printer who knows what they're doing, and these .stl files. https://we.tl/t-95Kz8xNDvA All the best, John

I am going to wire an older AT899(cW) for a Sennheiser G4 3.5mm. Am I correct that I connet the Mic (white) to the tip and tie the Bias(red) and ground to both the ring and sleeve?

Working on a cart build and curious how people secure their 8 series to their carts? I’m aware of the 1/4 20 thread on the bottom, is anyone using that? If so what are you screwing it into? Obviously I can throw it in a bag and just plop the bag on the cart but looking for a more permanent solution so the mixer can live on the cart. The cart is going to have standard rack spaces so anything that could interface within them would be perfect.
