Has anyone had any luck putting a rubber dust boot on their Sanken COS-11 that is already wired for TA5? I knew it'd be a tight fit, but damn, it's close to impossible. I've used heat to try to make it more pliable, but it's just not enough. Suggestions (other than re-wiring the TA5 connector)?

I have a Canare breakaway cable that I use to connect my SD 302 to camera. Recently, I've encountered a problem where one of the channels on the return will cut out. I had been able to fix it by jiggling the 1/8" return cable at the camera end, but that has stopped working. I unscrewed the housing and there doesn't appear to be any broken connections (though I'm no expert). There was also a broken connection at the 8-pin connector end of the camera end, but a friend soldered that back for me, which seemed to fix it. Has anyone else had this problem? Were you able to fix it yourself? What should I be looking for? Would it be better to just send it to Canare for…

Dear community, I would like to make a simple "T" power supply for my old 416T, intended to be used on a wireless boom. I don't want to use a barrel style adapter, as that kind of adapter eats up lots of power just to convert the P48 to T12, and I don't want to be changing batteries on a plug-on TX every hour. Plus, using external power would allow me to use basically any TX. I already have a lightweight 12V Li-Ion rechargeable (which actually gave me the idea for that project), so that's no problem. However I can't find any reliable diagrams on the web, they all show the 180 Ohms resistors but differ widely in coupling capacitor values. Any pointers? THX in advan…

Just checking what the correct breakout connector is for the Sonosax 26pin accessory port. I believe it's the 3M MDR 10126-3000PE and the shell's separate. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Interconnect/Home/Products/ProductCatalog/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230O73D0ISNF9B3C3SI1000000_nid=DJFBQ3FR2TitPBF9SM2BBQglRFTHB2V5GXbl Can anyone confirm this, please?

Just been checking different breeds of time code, and I found it cross jammed fine. Should I leave it as is, or make sure it can't be done? Thanks martin

I'm going soon to Qatar to film a documentary that is pretty much Qatar in the eyes of a blind man. Yes i did write it correctly so you can imagine how important sound is and specially atmospheres. So i wanted to buy a binaural mic that i could record some nice atoms with during shoot and after. As mostly is going to be during the shoot, i wanted something small and unobtrusive as i am by myself. Surround mic was a nice idea, but neither budget or space allow for it, and the only small one (Sanken WMS-5) is not available to rent in the UK. Looking at good small binaural microphones, i realised most are just two good omnis tweaked and positioned to work as 1 ste…

I'm trying to pull apart a 4 pin Hirose plug but I've not got very far with it. Just doesn't seem to be anything obvious past the screw-on crimping collar. Is there some trick with the spring loaded outer collar or is there another part I need to unscrew?

I would like a remote power switch for my Nomad without paying 200-400 dollars for a Remote Audio BDSv4 or similar. A suggestion from another thread was to build a switch on to my current Hawk Woods NPA-SQN battery cup I would like to have this situated along the cable, not on the cup, as the cup will probably be in the bottom of the bag. I just received my first batch of Sugru so I could probably use that to patch/mount/encase as necessary. I can solder, but i have no idea how the elecronics of this situation should work. Any suggestions on how I should do this? What kind of switch component would I need (how many pins/connections etc)? Would it…

Doing a little experiment with a Motorola 2 way radio headset. Can anyone ID what this 6 pin connector is? It enables the push to talk button, headset mic and received audio.

I would like to add a volume control on my boom box. 100ohm should do? I'd also like to build a small box before my comteks to easily line up the level on the fly from a line level out. Thinking 600 ohm dual gang for the balanced output. Thoughts? Any suggestion on a source for parts? Digikey takes forever to deliver. Thanks! James

Ok so I am debating making a powering cable to go to my bds to a H4n for a job I have coming up next week and am wondering what I am getting myself into. I do not have the unit here and don't know the voltage it takes for input and am assuming it is closer to a 9 than the 12 that is output by the BDS. Has anybody here built one? If so what kind of witchcraft will I have to do to make this work? EDIT. Ok so I finally found the specs for the dc in and it is a 5v jack and am going to assume that it will therefor not play nice with 12v power. So the question becomes what do I need to do to cut 12v to 5 volts.

I have a pair of DPA 4061 wired with Lectrosonics connectors and I want to be able to plug them into an XLR input on my 702, so I'm planning to wire up a couple of adaptor cables. I'm just a little unsure about which pins to solder where. From what I can tell looking at the info on the Lectrosonics page here - http://www.lectroson...tid,10/view,kb/ - and from my knowledge of wiring XLR cables, I should be doing the flowing: XLR: Pin 1 - Shield / Ground Pin 2 - Signal Pin 3 - Singal *Pin 2 and 3 are shorted together and thus recieve the same signal. TA5M: Pin 1 - Shield / Ground Pin 2 - Signal Pin 3 - Signal Pin 4 - Signal Pin 5 - Empty *…

I thought it would be great to showcase our DIY parts and accessories. I find threads like this tend to inspire and spread knowledge. If you haven't had the opportunity or inclination to post past projects in this forum, please do so, be it power distribution, carts, specialty cables, gear modifications, antenna distribution, etc. I saw one mixer that cut up plastic one liter soda bottles to keep his rycote softies protected. Simple, elegant and effective. I made these for these boxes for my boom ops. I send them full signal and I included a potentiometer to cut the volume to a level that works for them( Wyatt Tuzo was my electronics guru on this project).

This is the latest incarnation of my DIY DC distro. It has 4 outputs (on Hirose 4-pins) as well as a master switch (on-off-on) and a green LED to indicate power. I built this version to fit inside my Petrol 302 bag.

I have a few SMQV transmitters that have turned black on the casing. I think this generally comes from sweat and the like. I hesitate to say oxidation because I don't know the science. What is the best recommended solution for cleaning this up? Just a standard solution from the grocery store? They are always so pretty when they come back from the mothership.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple here, but stumped is stumped. I've got this SB-2a I'd like to keep in the bag to feed my Tascam HD-P2. I'd hoped to plug a Comtek TX in as well, to send timecode to the TS-1 slate I took the generator off of in the first place. I've tried a couple mono 1/8'' Y cables but code will only go through one branch (either branch) of the Y cable at a time. Plug the cables into an MP3 player or a Comtek RX, and I get sound out of two sets of headphones. Would a splitter like the one pictured work? I'm guessing timecode is so smart it knows how to twist my arm to buy an additional SB-3. Scott

So, I figured it was time to build my own custom sound cart. After doing a bit of research on carts I figured I'd go with two SKB's on a steel frame. My goal is to build the cart in such a way that it collapses down enough to fit inside a compact car. I also want it to have all the bells/whistles yet be able to get through interior door frames with ease. Any comments/suggestions/concerns are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Im booming a feature for a few weeks and wanted to get my hands on or make an apps box with a boom pole hole in it. Anyone have dimensions or know someone near the Baltimore area that may know how to make them? Would it work if I just bought a full apple then just drilled a hole in one end?
