Hi all, I posted a link to a product called Sugru over at the Freelance Sound Mixers group on Facebook. It went down quite well so thought some of you guys might find it useful. It's a mouldable silicone solution that comes in little packs. Dries solid with a little bit of flexibility to it. It's very useful for fixing / fabricating cables and generally fixing stuff. Their website is http://sugru.com/ Sounds like I work for them doesn't it? I don't, just thought it might help someone out.

I've had this zuca case for a couple months now and it has worked well when traveling around NYC for small eng and boom op gigs, but I wanted a secure place to put my pole on set as well as give it bigger wheels to better navigate crappy sidewalks. So I finally put some pieces I've been collecting together. Switched out the 4" skate wheels for 8" scooter wheels, sawed off the original front feet and added casters. Attached 2 boom holders on the back using broom holders from the container store (elfa system) and 2" pvc caps protected in the radius of the back wheels.

I am looking to make some BNC to LEMO and ERX1TCD to LEMO time code cables for RED shoots. I find it very hard to justify the high cost of the pre-made cables but the LEMO connectors themselves are also not cheap. In my research, I came across this site: http://www.econnek.com/ which has replacement LEMO connectors for a fraction of the price. I found one that is compatible with LEMO 4 pin but can't find a LEMO 5 pin on their site. The 4 pin is only $6.50 USD (even though it currently says 0 are available for shipping.... ) Does anyone have any experience with these connectors? Reliability, build quality, true compatibility with RED?

Hi you all. I have a VDB boompole (carbon fibre) and it is around 10 years old, it is not new but it was working perfectly until... one of the inner thread (the one glued to the fibre tube, not the one that you hold with the hand to tight or loose for adjust the boompole extension) got unstick, so I can´t tight one of the boompole sections. How can I fix it? I think that glueing carbon fibre with metal should need some kind of special glue, I´m afraid to use any glue that will damage the boompole. I would appreciate any advice or experience thanks and regards

Great News. I just spoke with Glenn and it turns out the qrx200 antenna connection can be easily rerouted to the bottom of the unit for people who use antenna distribution. That will allow for better cable management and cleaner front/top for great button access. The qrx200 already has 2 holes for IFB TC and Audio so it should be very easy to install the sma. Moving the qrx200 antenna sma to the bottom will allow me to make a One Unit Nomad, 4 qrx200s and a micplexer with common front panel.

A little downtime today on my show. I was bored and this happened: Disclaimer: I do all my mods with the understanding that I am voiding the warranty and maybe making further service imposible. I don't encourage you doing it yourself. I would not be responsible if you damage your gear. I have to come up with a sturdy way to keep it in place. so it does not rip the circuit board. I might have to put a different plug. And maybe make a whole new case including a very small volume knob to prevent it from breaking

I am trying to solder LEMO 3pin connector for SSM transmitter soon. But I figured the pins inside LEMO are so tiny and the bigger problem is Cos11d's wire itself is so fragile and thin specially white wire. I searched here and there...but not easy answers for me. Anybody can give some tips?? Pre-soldered Lavs are kind expensive.

It has definitely been done before. But I wanted to see if I could do it for less. I sourced all my parts from markertek, lowes and the local frys. For about $30-$40 dollars it's not a bad package at the end of the day. It obviously draws a lot of ideas from the BoomBox v1. Integrating talk back from the boom op is the next step, but it achieves the goal of having one cable for the boom to wrangle. For more detailed pictures you can read my brief writeup here: http://www.danacsimmons.com/content/boom-buddy-integrated-boom-cable-system

Here is my first attempt at making a small LiFePO4 battery pack. The parts shown are: $10.95 Pelican 1010 Mico Case $31.60 (4x) LiFePO4 26650 3400mAh cells $6.45 PCB-LFP12.8V2A Protection Circuit Module $31.95 H01280007-US-D1 LiFePO4 12.8V 0.7A Charger $7.04 (8x) Keystone 87 C Battery Holders some solder, some hookup wire, glue, and a spare 2.5mm female jack Total cost was under $90. For a 3.2Ah battery pack, this may not seem like a great deal. If you take out the cost of the charger, it is around $60. A Sony NP-F970 is $103 from B&H and is 6300mAh @ 7.2V, so these batteries probably have about the same power, only the cu…

Some mixers have ask me to post the "Remote Antenna". This little guy really can help when working in cars rigs. It is a great way to keep a better line of sight with your signal.... I have even used it on wireless boom set up for more range. (well its not really wireless at that point).. Anyways, it works with Lectro wireless. Check it out... $30.00 per or 2 for $50.00 for members of the forum. (Plus shipping) d3soundman@yahoo.com Darryl L. Frank CAS

I decided it was time to improve my power distribution; I've been running multiple power supplies for my F8n and 302 and want to simplify things. I also want to be prepared for more bag work down the road. I'm trying to save money for mic upgrades, so I figured this would be a good place to go DIY. To give credit where it's due, I got the idea for the BDS here: https://henrirapp.com/diy-hirose-battery-distribution/ And grabbed the power meter circuit from here: https://learn.adafruit.com/pro-trinket-power-meter/overview?embeds=allow The hardest part of all this was getting the dimensions on the 3d printed remote housing correc…

I've got a shoot coming up where I need to hook my LMa up to the truck for talent IFB. I'm betting the truck can send me a dry line. However, they have not yet found a truck, so I can't talk to them to confirm. I'm hoping someone can help me with a schematic to make a wet/dry XLR adapter cable. Thanks!

Ah, a new mixer means time to melt solder! I have all the XLRs I need, but am woefully low on the TA3F and TA5F...want to get the new one into service, so need to order the parts soon, as luckily I don't have a lot of time off the next week, and then can take the projects with me on a road trip. Whose got the best price...probably buying a minimum of 10 or so of each. thanks...cleve

So I have these sennheiser g2 packs lying around and decided to attempt a wireless timecode system with them. I built a lemo-1/8th cable to output from my fusion, and took the sensitivity down to -30 on the transmitter. Meters read a solid -10 or so when plugged in. The receiver is getting the signal cleanly with no hits, and when outputted to a ts-c in read mode, it will scroll if you touch the chassis of the lemo connector. If you do not touch the chassis, it will lock a static number once and not scroll. In gen mode it does nothing. The ultimate goal is to wirelessly jam a red camera, but the red won't flash its little chain symbol and it shows no indication of com…

This is the latest incarnation of my DIY DC distro. It has 4 outputs (on Hirose 4-pins) as well as a master switch (on-off-on) and a green LED to indicate power. I built this version to fit inside my Petrol 302 bag.

Dear All, I'm an avid user of Ursa Foamies. Since they often have a short lifespan, I made a small shield to protect them from all the tape abuse. Also it works very well in thicker fabrics and jackets and it gives a fair bit of isolation.

Hello Friends, I'm looking to make some DC power cables for bag use (I've finally decided I'm sick of spending the time rewiring my BDS every time i switch my wireless from my Fusion bag to my 552 bag, and vice versa, but the thought of buying all those cables again makes me woozy). However, i can't find any definitive information about the specs of various connectors used on all my various gear. Specifically I'd like to find out what is the connector type/brand is for: Remote Audio BDS outputs (locking DC connector, straight and right angle) Lectrosonics SRa/SM Battery Eliminator/T1 power inputs. (locking DC connector, straight and right angle) Hirose 4-…

I am going to be building a TA3 to XLR male, TA3 female splitter cable to come out of my Lectro SR and distribute to 744 and SD 302. Questions Has anyone done this, and did you choose to transformer isolate one side? This will be set to full line level from the SR. I need a recommendation for the actual raw wire I'll be using ( brand, type, diameter, where to purchase on line) want to use the best possible stuff. It will need to be thin enough for two wires to exit a TA3 connector with the rubber sleeve removed.

Anchor speakers make very good 50 watt playback units, they run on batteries for 6 to 8 hours and they are made in America. I bought a Liberty 4500 on eBay for $50.00. Why so cheap? The DC batteries are lead acid, if they fail, and they do, the speaker will come up for a few seconds and die. Swap in new batteries and you are good to go. Also did the same thing on one of their Explorer series and it worked as well. It will cost you more to ship than the cost of the unit. Let's keep this to ourselves, don't want the competition on eBay to be too big. ;-)

Hello all, I just picked up a used 8 channel AD-146. Unfortunately, the previous owner had not opted to perform the factory direct-out mod. I have priced out the boards from AD (at £85 ea.). I am entirely willing to go that route, but first wanted to check to see if anyone here had personal experience taping an unbuffered, high Z output from the channel strips as they are. One thing that I am apprehensive about with the AD mod boards, is that Ill be sacrificing my line ins, which I would prefer to keep for interfacing with a Lectro venue. Anyway, I'm just putting out feelers. I havent seen a schematic yet and dont know how the internal/panel real estate looks. Th…
