After working on a travel show for half of last year I got increasingly frustrated with transporting multiple mics in multiple boxes, and each box being generally the same size and generally huge. I wanted a solution to safely put all of my boom mics in my backpack and leave the boxes at home. So I came up with the idea of making a sort of tool roll to hold up to six mics. All rolled up, this mic roll holds six mics and is about the size of a CMIT box. The roll is padded and is made of top quality materials. The ballistic nylon is PU backed for water resistance and the lining is antistatic and non-pilling. The leather adds some class as well as two accessory pockets tha…

Anyone had any luck fixing these? I found the point where the cable goes into the wallwart crushed over, wires exposed and unfortunately had already plugged it in and turned on - I've repaired the wires but it's still dead so I'm assuming I've cooked something in the charger part - had a look but can't tell. I've got a replacement turning up tomorrow but a second would be nice, any ideas or is it off to the bin?

My camera breakaway cables are made with Mogami W2602 (4 pair) cable. I plan to make some new extensions with Neutricon connectors and I'm just wondering if there is a better or newer cable style than this.

Hello, I want to make an extension cable for my SPS 200 mic and was wondering if anyone knew the reference number for this connector. It looks like a regular 10 pin hirose connector but instead of being push/pull, it has a locking thread. I'm having a hard time finding it on the hirose website and contacted TSL (soundfield) a few days ago, but haven't received a reply. Thanks, Pablo

I'm building a right angle DC cable that goes from my Audio Root distro to my Cedar DNS-2. The wall wart that shipped with the DNS-2 was built with 22AWG. In the wall wart graveyard, I found some 24AWG and some 18AWG, but no 22AWG. In a quick search of the site here, I found advice regarding 22-24 being fine..but my question is: Could I make this DC cable build a bit sturdier? I was wondering if it was okay to do the build with the 18AWG. Any advice for my build here? Thanks for any help, Rachel

Back in the days I was not happy that I had to carry a mixer and a recorder. The extra weight, space and power did not make sense to me. I was talking about the idea to have a 552 like devices with integrated 5 ISO recording and a time code generator. One mixer/recorder unit. So when the nomad was released first I jumped in right away. I continued trying to achieve the lightest, smallest and simplistic sound package. I found many other things bothering me. Cable management. The way the wireless receivers seam to never fit nice and stable in a bag and the fact that past few years I find my self using the same configuration 90% of the time, led me to the idea of all in on…

Ok so I am finally getting around to building a couple of boxes next week and am wondering about a couple of things as I don't have any boxes in front of me. 1)should there be a vertical reinforcement panel in the center of the full boxes.. i.e.. from the top there would be a front back and 3 sides. I for some reason think I have seen this somewhere before though can think of no practical reason to do so as long as your top and bottom are 3/4" ply 2) wood... is birch ply ok I see no reason why not but somebody else mentioned maple to me in an off topic conversation last week. The maple would be harder stuff but I see no reason why birch should not work. Act…

Thinking of building myself a mixer based upon the exact features that I'd like... feedback - good idea or just plain silly. I have a very specific idea of how these features would be implemented, curious to see if others see things the same as I do or don't get it. Panel dimensions would be 12" wide by slightly under 3", overall dimensions would grow a bit given the casing. Faders are Penny and Giles 45mm throw. Sort of a design exercise to see if a linear fader bag mixer could work or not. Also thinking of maybe cutting it down to 4 channels instead. Switches are NKK, rotary pots are Alps push-lock style. The monitoring section on the right has a top row of …

I'm going soon to Qatar to film a documentary that is pretty much Qatar in the eyes of a blind man. Yes i did write it correctly so you can imagine how important sound is and specially atmospheres. So i wanted to buy a binaural mic that i could record some nice atoms with during shoot and after. As mostly is going to be during the shoot, i wanted something small and unobtrusive as i am by myself. Surround mic was a nice idea, but neither budget or space allow for it, and the only small one (Sanken WMS-5) is not available to rent in the UK. Looking at good small binaural microphones, i realised most are just two good omnis tweaked and positioned to work as 1 ste…

So I've got a 40' XLR cable, and a 50' 1/8" male - 1/8" female cable that I'd like to wrap around the XLR cable and make a last-minute duplex boom cable. Any ideas on how to cover/assemble this once it's wrapped together? Heat-shrink and zip ties? Thanks Max

Why? I have been kicking around the idea of a mixer with a crossfader for a long time now. Maybe it is from my days in NYC where I toyed around with DJ'ing (failing miserably) but I have always been enamored with the idea of using the DJ style crossfader. I searched long and hard, looking at almost every DJ mixer out there, to find something that I could adapt to my workflow. Nothing but the Allen & Heath XONE mixers came close, but not close enough, by a long shot. The XONE 464 is basically a WZ3 class mixer with some phono / stereo center section added, but was not adaptable to my needs. I found this baby randomly, absolutely no information on the web about it …

Hi, So I am a stage performer (Illusionist/Mentalist). The events I perform at vary so greatly with sound that I decided to take things into my own hands... hopefully. Here's a horrible mockup: My sound requirements are: 1. Headset Mic for me. 2. Handheld Mic for volunteers. 3. Music played from an iPad. Unfortunately, I often work at banquet halls where the client has hired a DJ who's system is very barebones (as most DJ systems are). It's not their fault. They usually don't have a need for a complicated system. Oftentimes, they will only have 1 input for me to use... and it's RCA 😵. I …

Have any of you fine folks tried reading LTC from a raspberry pi? I'm mildly curious to see if I could make a timecode display driven by a Nanolockit.

Over the years, there have been occasions where I have turned down my Comtek feed in order to mute it from the listeners between takes, and then forget to turn it back up when we roll. Since there are times when it's appropriate for the sound crew to keep the mics up for our own technical reasons, but at the same time keep the mics muted to the "public", I needed to make myself some kind of reminder to unmute the feed when we roll. I finally built a simple little box that would switch off the Aux send to the transmitter and at the same time, flash a bright red battery-powered LED to signal the muting. Turned out to be very useful.

I've never seen this malady on an XLR before. How did this XLR (from a rack de-install) get that hot? Or is this even from extreme heat? Anyone ever see this before? How strange.

The xlr jack on my sennheiser 416 is looser than I would like.. I think in conjunction with female xlr jack on my boom pole, they are creating some noise I would like to eliminate. I am planning on opening the mic up to work on it, but not sure on how to tighten or shim the connector once the mic is open. Does anyone have experience with this? My schoeps MK41 is not as bad but could probably use help eventually if all goes well. I've done searched the forum for this topic, but have not found any info.. Thanks..

So, I recently acquired a Nagra III, and was wondering if anyone had access to a service manual (not operators manual). I suspect a re-cap is in order, but I could have larger problems as well. Everything runs fine in rewind, but in PB and Rec, the motor winds itself down after exactly 10 seconds. Beyond that... Biasing, modulometer calibration, yada yada yada Thanks in advance! Wyatt

Has anyone had any luck opening an np-l7s battery without cracking/bending or tearing apart the plastic casing? I have one that works fine but has something rattling around inside so I want to get in there. I know there’s the 4 screws but is the plastic bonded together as well? If you’ve had luck - what was your method? If this has been discussed before I couldn’t find any answers. Thanks

I just saw a plexiglass screen protector for 664 on the SD facebook page. It just occurred to me that it might be economically feasible to have a small batch of custom screen protectors made of sapphire glass. Perhaps, if it is exactly the right size, it would stay on without any adhesive. Sapphire glass is the kind of glass they use on watches and it's super hard.. very difficult to scratch and optically superior. http://www.rayotek.com/sapphire_windows.htm I'd buy one or two in a group buy for sure.. especially if the price is right. What do you think?

Hi all! I got myself a micron sda 214-1 splitter/amplifier and wanted an external antennae to get rid of the RF noise I was getting from my bag (mostly tascam dr-680's fault) I also use a Sennheiser G3 transmitter as a mono hop/scratch/ifb. Which is surprisingly strong at that task Previously i had to hang the receivers on my harness but as i recently bought more channels of wireless, this task was too cumbersome to continue - a lot of cables and mess on the harness. So i thought about lifting only the antennas up. I bought some RG58 cable, and (after a lot of reading) tried to make a simple coax dipole - with stripped cable, but it didn't seem to work. My kit works…
