I need to make up a line to mic 1/8" mini to 1/8" mini plug cable for a friend. The output is a Tascam DR100 recorder consumer level line output feeding a 5D Mkii Mic Input. Any pointers for wiring in a resistor pad would be appreciated.. Mr Toline??

Doing a little experiment with a Motorola 2 way radio headset. Can anyone ID what this 6 pin connector is? It enables the push to talk button, headset mic and received audio.

I would like to add a volume control on my boom box. 100ohm should do? I'd also like to build a small box before my comteks to easily line up the level on the fly from a line level out. Thinking 600 ohm dual gang for the balanced output. Thoughts? Any suggestion on a source for parts? Digikey takes forever to deliver. Thanks! James

Ok so I am debating making a powering cable to go to my bds to a H4n for a job I have coming up next week and am wondering what I am getting myself into. I do not have the unit here and don't know the voltage it takes for input and am assuming it is closer to a 9 than the 12 that is output by the BDS. Has anybody here built one? If so what kind of witchcraft will I have to do to make this work? EDIT. Ok so I finally found the specs for the dc in and it is a 5v jack and am going to assume that it will therefor not play nice with 12v power. So the question becomes what do I need to do to cut 12v to 5 volts.

I have a pair of DPA 4061 wired with Lectrosonics connectors and I want to be able to plug them into an XLR input on my 702, so I'm planning to wire up a couple of adaptor cables. I'm just a little unsure about which pins to solder where. From what I can tell looking at the info on the Lectrosonics page here - http://www.lectroson...tid,10/view,kb/ - and from my knowledge of wiring XLR cables, I should be doing the flowing: XLR: Pin 1 - Shield / Ground Pin 2 - Signal Pin 3 - Singal *Pin 2 and 3 are shorted together and thus recieve the same signal. TA5M: Pin 1 - Shield / Ground Pin 2 - Signal Pin 3 - Signal Pin 4 - Signal Pin 5 - Empty *…

This is a photo diary of the birth of my new sound cart. It is based on wooden 8U 19" cases (bought from Thomann) and will have the option of adding more modules. It breaks into single modules for transport in a car. The base will, apart from having wheels, hold things like comtek RX, small playback speakers, spare headphones, and similar stuff you typically need handy only during set-up. It will also contain small mic stands, LPDAs, and a spare Rycote basket. The main module will hold two drawers with TX, lavs, lav accessories, mics, suspensions, TX batteries and so on, and have 4 units of open space to house RX racks, script, comtek TX, headphones, and similar stu…

Ok so I am finally getting around to building a couple of boxes next week and am wondering about a couple of things as I don't have any boxes in front of me. 1)should there be a vertical reinforcement panel in the center of the full boxes.. i.e.. from the top there would be a front back and 3 sides. I for some reason think I have seen this somewhere before though can think of no practical reason to do so as long as your top and bottom are 3/4" ply 2) wood... is birch ply ok I see no reason why not but somebody else mentioned maple to me in an off topic conversation last week. The maple would be harder stuff but I see no reason why birch should not work. Act…

I have a few SMQV transmitters that have turned black on the casing. I think this generally comes from sweat and the like. I hesitate to say oxidation because I don't know the science. What is the best recommended solution for cleaning this up? Just a standard solution from the grocery store? They are always so pretty when they come back from the mothership.

Hey folks, I am attempting to wire my own TA3F to XLRM cable and I am having problems with the TA3 end. I am using Audio-Technica cable, and it is too just thick to fit through the boot (even with the rubber part removed). I used plenty of elbow grease, but I could not get it through. When I compared the AT cable to the ones manufactured by Sound Devices, I definitely saw a noticeable difference in thickness. Apparently, SD uses a cable called Gepco International. I've never heard of it. I was wondering if I could trouble y'all for your recommendations for a thinner cable that works well with TA3 connectors. Specifically, I'm looking for model numbers. I know Ca…

Referenced in another thread in the Camera section, I am posting a pic of a DIY cable for the Arri Alexa. This is an inexpensive solution to buying a factory cable to add a wireless scratch track audio signal. You will need a 5 pin male straight connector, a 3.5mm male connector with cable, epoxy, soldering tools, a cutoff tool (Dremel, or hacksaw), and a few minutes time. I had helped make a set of these on another feature with Bud Raymond and on this particular movie, my bad-ass sound mixer, Todd Weaver and I whipped these up in record time on set one day when it was discovered that the camera rental company had failed to include them as a part of the agreed…

Im booming a feature for a few weeks and wanted to get my hands on or make an apps box with a boom pole hole in it. Anyone have dimensions or know someone near the Baltimore area that may know how to make them? Would it work if I just bought a full apple then just drilled a hole in one end?

Since I am currently in cable-making readiness mode(have 200' of CA3PS26 coming from Trew and Neutricons from Markertek for my DIY breakaway cable system), I am also thinking about building a breakout for the DB-15 AES connector on my Nomad. I am looking at different cable options, this one looks quite good: http://www.gotham.ch...7_details&id=59 Has anyone yet built one of these? Managing the shields in the DB-15 looks like it will be the most "fun" part of the job... and the 15mm diameter of the cable presents a thought as to the shell of the DB-15.

I'm going soon to Qatar to film a documentary that is pretty much Qatar in the eyes of a blind man. Yes i did write it correctly so you can imagine how important sound is and specially atmospheres. So i wanted to buy a binaural mic that i could record some nice atoms with during shoot and after. As mostly is going to be during the shoot, i wanted something small and unobtrusive as i am by myself. Surround mic was a nice idea, but neither budget or space allow for it, and the only small one (Sanken WMS-5) is not available to rent in the UK. Looking at good small binaural microphones, i realised most are just two good omnis tweaked and positioned to work as 1 ste…

i am in the midst of making up a digital input cable for a 788 and want to make use of the remote roll feature of a cooper 208 (not mine, otherwise i could get a voltmeter to it) and am struggling to work out from the cooper manual how i should wire the logic in and ground connection from the 788 to the TA5 on the back of the cooper. the pin outs are pin 1 = -10v (nagra) pin 2 = stop (nagra) pin 3 = pause stop (dat) pin 4 = common (dat) pin 5 = record (dat) but i cannot find any info anywhere about which i should connect to pin 9 on the 788 DB15 i guess it would be either TA5 pin 5 to DB15 pin 9 and TA5 pin 4 to DB15 6 and 7 or TA5 pin 1 to DB15…

I'm sure I'm missing something simple here, but stumped is stumped. I've got this SB-2a I'd like to keep in the bag to feed my Tascam HD-P2. I'd hoped to plug a Comtek TX in as well, to send timecode to the TS-1 slate I took the generator off of in the first place. I've tried a couple mono 1/8'' Y cables but code will only go through one branch (either branch) of the Y cable at a time. Plug the cables into an MP3 player or a Comtek RX, and I get sound out of two sets of headphones. Would a splitter like the one pictured work? I'm guessing timecode is so smart it knows how to twist my arm to buy an additional SB-3. Scott

I'm replacing some cheap aluminum radial caps in an LCD monitor. I know about Electronic City in Burbank but I seem to recall looking for some mic components there in the past and they didn’t have some of the resistors or capacitors I needed so I ended up going online for them. I'd rather not wait for delivery and, instead, be able to walk in and buy locally. Being able to talk to helpful, knowlegable, staff is another reason I'd like to stay locaI. Thanks in advance.

I would like a remote power switch for my Nomad without paying 200-400 dollars for a Remote Audio BDSv4 or similar. A suggestion from another thread was to build a switch on to my current Hawk Woods NPA-SQN battery cup I would like to have this situated along the cable, not on the cup, as the cup will probably be in the bottom of the bag. I just received my first batch of Sugru so I could probably use that to patch/mount/encase as necessary. I can solder, but i have no idea how the elecronics of this situation should work. Any suggestions on how I should do this? What kind of switch component would I need (how many pins/connections etc)? Would it…
