Just was wondering if anyone has any experience with soldering different connectors on the Sanken CUB-01. Im thinking of just buying it without any connectors and putting my own 3pin XLR-M. Is there anything in particular to look out for soldering wise? Or is it just straight forward 1 to 1, 2 to 2, and 3 to 3? As far as XLR is concerned.

So I have these sennheiser g2 packs lying around and decided to attempt a wireless timecode system with them. I built a lemo-1/8th cable to output from my fusion, and took the sensitivity down to -30 on the transmitter. Meters read a solid -10 or so when plugged in. The receiver is getting the signal cleanly with no hits, and when outputted to a ts-c in read mode, it will scroll if you touch the chassis of the lemo connector. If you do not touch the chassis, it will lock a static number once and not scroll. In gen mode it does nothing. The ultimate goal is to wirelessly jam a red camera, but the red won't flash its little chain symbol and it shows no indication of com…

Ive noticed that not all "clear" heat shrink tubing is alike - I have plenty of "clear" or so its advertised as. But I find that what they sell as "clear" is not that clear but a bit cloudy and its difficult to see through. I have used some tubing that is "crystal clear" and very transparent - but I can't seem to find it and anytime I order some it turns out to be the cloudy stuff. Any leads on the "crystal clear" stuff?

Zuca Bags aren't anything new, and this is nowhere near as extensive as or Zuca cart builds but I figured I would share anyway. The idea was to make a minimalist bag cart that could fold up and be easily put into the trunk of a sedan (nyc taxi). I decided to go with a Zuca bag mostly because I already had one. Similarly I decided to use 1515 profiles from 8020 because I had some left over from another project. So, here it is: The top shelf folds down over the Zuca for easy transport: The hinges are from 8020 and I used a long T-nut on each side as locks to prevent the shelf from accidentally falling when there's weight on it: Here's an a…

Hi all, I'm currently in the process of building a manual switch box so that I can switch between 2 sources into 1 input on my 552. The two sources are a fig8 mic and a line level out radio receiver. I'd switch to the fig8 mic when recording ambiences and switch back to the radio receiver at all other times. I did have a thought of making the switch box a bit more elegant by having it automatically switch when phantom power was applied. I would only need phantom power for the mic so I could maybe set up a relay energise via phantom power and switch contacts over to the mic. It would save having to dig into my bag and also avoid accidentally knocking the switch …

I recently stumbled on this DIY electret kit : http://micbooster.com/primo-microphone-capsules/8-primo-em-172-z1.html Out of curiosity I might buy a pair. Maybe the could be usable as plant mics or something alike. Has anyone build one of these already?

Just finished the main build for this cart today. All 80/20 profiles with Rackman Aluminum Drawers. Still have a few things to add but it's functional for now. Booms go on the left side, carpets on the right.

I just saw a plexiglass screen protector for 664 on the SD facebook page. It just occurred to me that it might be economically feasible to have a small batch of custom screen protectors made of sapphire glass. Perhaps, if it is exactly the right size, it would stay on without any adhesive. Sapphire glass is the kind of glass they use on watches and it's super hard.. very difficult to scratch and optically superior. http://www.rayotek.com/sapphire_windows.htm I'd buy one or two in a group buy for sure.. especially if the price is right. What do you think?

Hi you all. I have a VDB boompole (carbon fibre) and it is around 10 years old, it is not new but it was working perfectly until... one of the inner thread (the one glued to the fibre tube, not the one that you hold with the hand to tight or loose for adjust the boompole extension) got unstick, so I can´t tight one of the boompole sections. How can I fix it? I think that glueing carbon fibre with metal should need some kind of special glue, I´m afraid to use any glue that will damage the boompole. I would appreciate any advice or experience thanks and regards

I was wondering what people are doing to attach their axle to an 8020 cart build? It seems like an 1/2" thru axle would be the strongest option but I cant seem to find any means to attach it to the profiles. Thanks

Hi Folks! So I did my own SMA antenna mod on my Sennheiser G3 receivers. And I said, ok, If they now have the sma plugs, it might be a good idea to have and external LPDA antenna to then, so this way I could have all my rx on my cart, and have then with longer range! So I bough a rf passive splitter from 1 in to 2 outputs, and 2 passive splitter with 1 in to 4 outputs, this way I could send 1 antenna signal to 8 rx. I bought a LPDA printed antenna which claims to have 18dB of gain. To compensate for rf loss on the passive splitters, I also bought a chinese RF amplifier circuit with more 20dB of gain. As I knew all this amplification this could o…

As you may know, Ambient changed the design of their QP line of boom poles last year from matte black coated carbon fiber to a shiny weave of carbon fiber. Since buying a new QP-4140 last year, I've run into a couple of problems with it reflecting bright light sources that hit it directly. Normally you can cross a bright light source as long as it doesn't cast a shadow into frame or change the light level but the new design reflects light so this isn't always possible. In the attached pictures, there was a Source 4 to my right firing into the cabinet on the left and I was booming someone under it. If I were to barely break the beam of light, a ring of light reflected…

I've had some flexible LED strip hanging around for a while and decided to try out an idea that had been knocking around for a while. I bought 1 metre of transparent acrylic tube, broke out the heat-gun and the soldering iron and made a couple of these little 12 volt light-sticks. Total cost, about $10 a stick, time to make, about 30 minutes. A bit of adhesive BlackWrap and some adhesive Velcro and I've got an adaptable light-source for working at night or in dark corners. I'll drill the flat sections of the tube and add snap hooks for extra hanging points. Regards, John

I want to connect a power source (BDS v3 Battery Distribution System - you can see it at B&H) to an Edirol Audio Recorder (R-09HR Portable High-Resolution Audio Recorder) so all my equipment has one battery source. Can anyone tell me what connectors I should use? Thanks mailto:cbj@srcq.org

Two hip replacements in the past two years and still needing to work, has required some thinking about work habits. Most of my jobs are bag related, very few with a larger mix panel, so my search led me to the various commercial offerings along with mixer op built bag carts. My criteria being weight, size, and cost. One aspect was I didn't want to reinvent the wheel, so I went with a ready made aluminum cart. For ease in building along with the ability to perform modifications I chose to use the 1" extruded aluminum product. There are a number of companies selling this type of product all over the world, 8020, T-Slots, Parker, Bosch, Mainframe, Item, Mayhew and o…
