I have to work with the HPX2700 Panasonic I want to use the front mic input, which is a 5 pins female XLR Am I right to assume pin 1 is ground, 2 is hot Left, 3 return Left, 4 hot Right and 5 return Right ? I also want to monitor with the rear 5 pins male XLR Is this the same than above ? (1 ground, 2 hot L, 3 ret L, 4 hot R, 5 ret R) It should be, but how knows... I don't find the info on the manual, and I don't have the camera at hand. Having just finished a few months with the lovely Alexa, I had forgotten how loud other camera systems can be. Back with the F35 with tape drives, and I am so annoyed by hearing the cameras. I am assured they are on the quietest settings, and I do hear them quiet down while rolling, but it's just so irritating. And I don't even want to start about how loud the DIT cart is. The loudest I have ever experienced. Truly shocking.

I mentioned the Panasonic Lumix GH2 in the Alexa thread, and a number of other sound people chimed in about being happy GH2 owners as well, so I thought it deserved its own thread. It says a lot to me that so many sound people are buying a camera with a sub-mini 2.5mm audio input. It was a big metal leap for me to convince myself to buy a camera with such a tiny audio input, but I'm glad I did. This camera is a lot smaller than most HDSLR's, and the video image is just as good, and in many respects, far better than even the steepest competition. The only thing that I've grown not to like is the 2x crop factor. Someday I'd love to bump up to a full-sized sensor…

Have any of you fine people tried using the composite video output from the canon eos cameras to feed monitors on your cart, if so, will doing this disable the hdmi out. I know the cameras ship with a usb to composite video (rca) output cable, so I'm hoping this works since sending HDMI over long distances (specifically over cat5) is still much more expensive than with standard deff composite.

Believe it or not, the movie I am starting next week has gone back and forth on film vs. digital, and they will not make a decision until sometime next week. So, my question to all those who have worked with Alexa, I need to confirm a few things. From what I have learned so far, I should be at 48K sample rate and 23.98 tc, jam the Alexa from the main tc source (my Deva) and shoot tc slates. I imagine that I could jam a sync box (Denecke, Ambient, etc.) and put that on the camera. There is no plan to put any sound on the camera. Let me know if I have this all in the ballpark.

Hiya guys n gals! I've been following the development of the Aaton Penelope Delta, a 35 mm film camera. Why? Well, it's going to get a digital mag. That means it's a hybrid! It goes from film to digital and vice versa. EDIT: It would seem they've rethought the camera and just made it into one single digital camera. :/ Sad IMHO. Would've been cool to have that ability. Can't have everything I guess. Interesting camera anyhow! BUT: Another really interesting thing is that Aaton also makes the great recorder Cantar-X, and I've read in the Penelope manual that there could be some sort of link between or something like that.. So everyone is listing off high end cine cameras, thought I would share my excitement for a "lil" camera on the other end of the spectrum, not so much for professional use, but something I'm looking forward to myself... kiddie home movies, vacation snapshots, and some enthusiasts photo opportunities... The Sony NEX-7 is an APS-C sized miniature interchangeable lens DSLR-like performer. 24MP sensor (too much I think) seems to have good dynamic range and ok noise at normal ISO settings limited lenses, but lots of adapters available.
