Hi everybody, i am contacting you because i am in a shoot where we use a sony FX9 (and FX6 as a A cam with no problem) and the problem is the following : We need to put audio in input 1 with Channel 1 and there is literally no option to set it. How to fix this? See the picture below. The first option is greyed out. There is no external option for Channel 1. The DOP can't help and i set on the right of the camera the channel to "ext" and not "mi shoe". I am hoping someone ran into this problem maybe already. Never saw a camera in my life that is litteraly not proposing you options for channel 1... Thanks

Okay so i m on a shoot today with a 5d camera. Commercial work with no video assist guy. I d like to send scratch feed to 5d to get okay sound for playback in hdmi monitor speaker. Try plugging my erx with standard 1/8" stereo jack cable sending tone and camera stays on camera mic? Tried switching cable, tried switching to a g2. Made sure i was plugged into mic input (not video output plug duh) on camera. It seems like camera doesnt get that there is something plugged. It always stays on camera mic no matter what i do or plug in mic plug? Am i missing something here? Is camera jack just busted? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I was hoping you could do me a big favour... For my final year project at university I made a series of promotional videos using both Digital SLR's and HDV camcorders. In my report I need some secondary research... That's where you guys come in. Basically all I need you to do is watch this video which shows the Canon 7D and the XHA1 in a series of test shots. Then pick which camera you felt performed best overall and why. You'd be helping me out a lot and if there's anything I can do to return a favour I will! Thanks! Tom.

Starting a feature with this camera end of the month. Anyone have any advice with regards timecode etc? We have some test days coming up but would be good to go into them with some idea of how it operates so far thinking Deneke sync box on the camera as experience says Sony is normally no good at holding time. Shame we're not using alexa...

I was asked to record sound direct to camera today for a documentary series shot on F3. I have always used double system sound with these types of cameras in the past but I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound back off the camera. Of course I still ran a backup but I am more than happy for them to use the sound on the camera! Nice work Sony!

First units appear to be shipping, so I thought I'd worth mentioning the interesting points for soundies: Audio in through unbalanced 3.5mm stereo jack or one channel balanced TA3 with 48V phantom. According to the manual it also accepts TC through the 3.5mm jack real timecode camera metadata (like the MixPre-3/6) If anybody gets a hands on with one of those let us know how it works : ) chris

Fury is happy to relate that he has successfully synched TC, from ERX TCD, ver 1.33 to RED Epic Dragon @ voltage output 2.0 or >, from ERX. Voltage output of 1.0 gives intermittent connection only and then only after first synching at 25 or> and stepping down. Subsequent cold boots of either or both pieces gives no joy at that voltage. All this after new Dragon Firmware 5.2.28 - no previous version was successful @ 23.98. Fury can also relate that the 2.0 volt synch maintained for, at least, several minutes, before the celebration began... Thanks Howy and Glen, from Zaxcom and Mark, et al., from RED. There is now joy in Mudville and as…

Greetings all, Just a heads up on issues relating to sync in the latest Red Epic Firmware Version 4.0.12 Even with a timecode box riding the camera, this build of the Epic firmware will "Slip" timecode up to 2-3 frames either on Plus or Minus of what shows up on the Slate. The Actual Timecode shown in RedCine-X and what's shown on the slate are off. The Editor is having the "Slip" the audio into sync for editorial which will cause an issue later down the pipeline when attempting to conform back in Protools and the "Rouge" timecode of the video clips will cause my Production Audio to be out of sync. The editor is now logging each clips "Offset" which will hopefully be abl…

Hello, Here is a litle sound test I've made to check the new Bottom fan from RED. The FanPlate is also used in this test, so people can hear the difference with and without FanPlate. Pat

I am a fairly green soundie, who usually works as boom or utility. Tomorrow I will be mixing some second unit coverage on the show I am currently on. I will be using a SD 302 and 2 lectros, and a boom. I'm going directly to camera via beta snake and I have never recorded straight to camera like this before. I guess I'm just looking for any advice in general and potential problems this setup could present. Thankyou

Have a possible shoot upcoming with Nikon D800 and the external Ninja deck. Wondering if anyone has some tales to tell regarding TC and audio possibilities for this set up. The project is a month long doc with 2 cameras and I will most likely have a 788T as main recorder TC master.

I am a fan of the Alexa and have worked with it many times. I'm about to do a job with two Alexas and I was going to put Lockit ACL 203's on each camera, but now I'm not sure if the Lockits are really necessary as I could just jam each camera at start of the day and after lunch. Does the Alexa ever lose TC jam after playback, I know it can after about 30minutes of being switched off. Any opinions if the Lockit is required or not?

Hey Everyone, I'll be on a shoot soon with a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. Previously I'd been using a QRX100 (feeding the 3-pin mini xlr), however production will have two mixers on the coming shoot with only 1 QRX100, so I may have to use another option. Hence I was wondering if I could send both audio and timecode from a Zaxcom ERX into the Black Magic's 3.5mm input jack. In the manual it says that the Camera will accept timecode into the left channel of the 3.5mm, does that mean that I can use channel 2 audio on the 3.5mm? Cheers!

Just caught a column on the website 4KShooters.net on how some people are jury-rigging the Sony A7S -- which is a very fine still camera -- to shoot "4K" shorts and other projects. The only problem is, by the time you add all the crap to it in order to make the camera workable for timecode, monitoring, sound, follow-focus, batteries, etc., what you wind up with is this: As opposed to, say, the Arri Amira: Tell me which one makes more sense!

At IBC this year, Aaton demonstrated a functioning Delta Penelope Digital Cinema Camera. The Delta Penelope project was first announced jointly with AbelCine at NAB 2010 as a “digital mag” upgrade to the Penelope Super-35 film camera. Since then, the camera has evolved into its own complete design, featuring a CCD (as opposed to CMOS) Super-35 sensor, an optical viewfinder with spinning mirror shutter, and Aaton’s famed ergonomic “cat on the shoulder” design. http://blog.abelcine.com/2012/09/27/aaton-unveils-the-delta-penelope-camera/ Or http://johnbrawley.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/aaton-delta-penelope/

Hello, I wanted to know if anyone has run issues with running timecode to the Sony Fx9. I didn’t have time to troubleshoot the FX9 last time I worked with it so I ended up just sending a camera hop for reference. I tried to use a jb-1 denecke and a 664 to send timecode to the camera with the settings stated in the manual but had no luck with it acquiring sync. I tried to toggle through the timecode settings in the camera menu but didn’t have time since we were in a crunch. Just curious if anyone has run into similar issues?

I thought I'd share this, thanks to my friend, Clyde Bryan: "Frankly, when you're blowing up a 4-story building in a oner, you can't take any risk at all. And I think we all believe strongly that it would be a great risk to do something like that on a digital camera."-Wally Pfister, ASC Best regards, Jim

We just opened our internal database to the public...C.A.T.I. - the Camera Audio and Timecode Input database. The goal is to be able to crowdsource new cameras that we may not all come across very often, or discover a camera's idiosyncrasies together. Feel free to use for your own personal use and contribute as much or little as you want. We tried to make it extremely easy to use, but feel free to post any suggestions.

Starting new project. I was just informed that video going to be all wireless. Systems that i have not worked with before. Either HPvideo or Microlite. 5.8ghz systems. HPvideo claims 1ms latency and Microlite claims 120ms. Anybody here have real world experience with these systems? 120 ms- seems like enough to warrant a delay. thanks! john
