I didn't find the X-T3 manual especially helpful, and didn't find much online either. So I turn to all of you: Looks like I'll be working with an X-T3 mirrorless camera soon, though I'm not exactly sure what (if anything) I'll be sending to it. Does anyone here have any experience with that camera? I guess my main questions are: 1) For sending timecode, can I treat it like any other DSLR/mirrorless camera, or is there anything unique about this Fujifilm camera? 2) For sending scratch audio, same question. Anything odd? Is setitng levels fairly straightforward, or is there anything extra weird (or extra good) going on? 3) Any…

I was cabled up to a Sony F55 today, and realized near the end of a long day that despite hearing a consistent and good return monitoring signal, movement in the camera's audio meters had ceased at some point in the last hour. We confirmed via last clip playback that the camera had stopped recording audio, even while continuing to allow for a good return path (to a Sound Devices 322 mixer). How could this be possible, and has anyone else encountered this deadly malfunction? We went through trouble shooting, even as other crews were breaking down, and used another available camera to verify that everything in my audio package was normal. I have had…

Greetings all, Just a heads up on issues relating to sync in the latest Red Epic Firmware Version 4.0.12 Even with a timecode box riding the camera, this build of the Epic firmware will "Slip" timecode up to 2-3 frames either on Plus or Minus of what shows up on the Slate. The Actual Timecode shown in RedCine-X and what's shown on the slate are off. The Editor is having the "Slip" the audio into sync for editorial which will cause an issue later down the pipeline when attempting to conform back in Protools and the "Rouge" timecode of the video clips will cause my Production Audio to be out of sync. The editor is now logging each clips "Offset" which will hopefully be abl…

Quick question, on set right now and we're wondering; When the camera rolls 50 fps and the sound 25 fps is the first frame of video/audio in sync? In otherwords does the audioclip sync with the videoclip on the first frame? Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I have worked with the Canon C300, and jammed my recorder to the camera. How do I jam with a Canon 1DC? I have a 664 recorder. Is there a timecode input/output on the camera? I know that the C500 has one.

I was asked to record sound direct to camera today for a documentary series shot on F3. I have always used double system sound with these types of cameras in the past but I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound back off the camera. Of course I still ran a backup but I am more than happy for them to use the sound on the camera! Nice work Sony!

Hi all, I'm wondering whether any of these cables would allow me to jam the F8 and the Arri Alexa mini. First time working with both. Which one you would recommned should be the master TC machine? I'm aware of the sync issues but there is no budget for lockit boxes so I'm thinking in jamming every few hours and when camera and/or F8 are switched off. Here are the links to the cables and pics: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/spanish/c/product/423968-REG/Sound_Devices_XL_LB2_XL_LB2_31_LEMO_5.html/?gclid=CLGq9f3QmMwCFVAvgQodMWEDnw http://www.bhphotovideo.com/spanish/c/product/1021813-REG/laird_digital_cinema_sd_tcd2_01_lemo_5_pin_to_bnc.html thanks a l…

Yesterday the new Sony FX6 got announced (which I bet will end up becoming the #1 camera choice for many folks, replacing the dominant #1 market share position that the FS7 has had for years. As like the FS7 before it, this new FX6 hits the sweet spot for a lot of features at a very good price). Of course a lot of discussion online is comparing the Sony FX6 with the cheaper Sony a7Smk3, but one comment in particular stood out to me just now: "this camera will most likely get Netflix certified whereas the A7sIII probably never will." Which instantly made my mind go *click*! Ohhhhhhh........... now I realize why the FX6 has Timecode I/O when the Sony FS…

Starting a project using Alexa LF cameras. Anything unusual about the Time Code connection, or is it just the usual 5 pin Lemo? I looked at Arri's website and only came across the usual sales info, but nothing specific about TC connections. Best Jim Rillie

Hiya guys n gals! I've been following the development of the Aaton Penelope Delta, a 35 mm film camera. Why? Well, it's going to get a digital mag. That means it's a hybrid! It goes from film to digital and vice versa. EDIT: It would seem they've rethought the camera and just made it into one single digital camera. :/ Sad IMHO. Would've been cool to have that ability. Can't have everything I guess. Interesting camera anyhow! BUT: Another really interesting thing is that Aaton also makes the great recorder Cantar-X, and I've read in the Penelope manual that there could be some sort of link between or something like that.. Anyway it should (hopefully) mean…

Did some research here and found some posts on this. But if I recall, all were rather old. Hence my starting the topic up again. Need to know what solutions currently work best for sending a wireless hop to the Alexa for a scratch audio reference track. Presently, I have some older Lectro UCR100's which would seem ideal for this purpose. Can anyone tell me whether they have tried using these units with the Alexa? And what success or pitfalls they have encountered? Also, if these units will do the job, can you tell me the wiring scheme from the 3.5mm UCR100 Out to the 5-Pin XLR In? Finally, as a backup, I have Comtek PR-72b's available should that be consi…

I did a ton of googling trying to find out how to set up multiple cameras and record multi mics to a separate recorder , that were all recording the same timecode that could be used to synch everything easily and automatically, that didn't require spending close to $1k on hardware. Why I couldn't find a single post describing the following very simple, and cost effective solution, that I would think most budget filmmakers would have figured out long ago, is confounding to meIt's quite easy. You will need the following:A computer with multitrack software. (Free version of Protools)A multichannel interface.Long, balanced 1/4" cables. (make your own) And a copy of the Horae so…

I'm looking to get into some docu-style film making for my hobbies and other endeavors. I'm not too savvy on cameras these days so I was seeing what ya'll recommended. Are 7d's and 5d's still hard to beat? I'd prefer something that was: 1. Easy to move around with and conceal 2. interchangeable lenses 3. Priced at no more then $1500 4. Sensors that are great in low/no light. Any info/tips are appreciated. Thanks, Michael

Hey guys, We're using a SD 788T SSD as our master clock, jamming Ambient lockit boxes to it and then jamming both Alexas. We have not been putting the lockits on the cameras as camera department were initially not keen to have them onboard. We started with the standard morning and after lunch jam, but we're told by post that both cameras are drifting by up to 7 frames by the end of the day. We jammed each camera 4 times yesterday - morning, mid-morning, lunch and mid afternoon - to the same result. Even though each camera is accepting the timecode jam and says "system good" after each jam, the drift is incrementally increasing. Today, we put the lockits on the…

Have a possible shoot upcoming with Nikon D800 and the external Ninja deck. Wondering if anyone has some tales to tell regarding TC and audio possibilities for this set up. The project is a month long doc with 2 cameras and I will most likely have a 788T as main recorder TC master.

The camera wars have just heated up... Cameramaker Red Claims Espionage Suit says rival cameramaker Arri benefitted from hacking By KAREN IDELSON Dec. 28, 2011, 3:07pm PT DAILY VARIETY In a saga worthy of a Hollywood thriller, allegations of email hacking and industrial espionage have surfaced in the camera industry in a lawsuit filed by digital camera maker Red against rival Arri. In the suit filed Dec. 21 in federal court in Orange County, Calif., Red accuses Arri of stealing technical details and development plans for Red cameras, giving Arri an unfair advantage. Much of Red's complaint rests on facts revealed in an August plea d…

So everyone is listing off high end cine cameras, thought I would share my excitement for a "lil" camera on the other end of the spectrum, not so much for professional use, but something I'm looking forward to myself... kiddie home movies, vacation snapshots, and some enthusiasts photo opportunities... The Sony NEX-7 is an APS-C sized miniature interchangeable lens DSLR-like performer. 24MP sensor (too much I think) seems to have good dynamic range and ok noise at normal ISO settings limited lenses, but lots of adapters available. One of the e mount lens options looks like an "OK" performing 24mm f1.8 Zeiss branded prime. Has an electronic viewfinder! Ass…

Hello all, has anyone experience with the F55? We are going to shoot a TV series with 2 of those cameras for the first time. In the last few years we worked a lot with the Arri Alexa and this camera has a stable timecode generator (build by Ambient) Our workflow with the Arri is to sync them regularly (2 to 4 times a day or when there is a TC drop after a battery change) with our Aaton Cantar recorder that runs as TC-Master. The sync is done using a Denecke Syncbox. The Camera than runs in free-run synced on the incoming TC. This works very good and is really stable. I was wondering if the internal generator of the F55 is that stable. Or do we have to provide…

Had a recent experience with the Canon EOS-5D Mk II that was illuminating. I generally send a wireless or cable feed as reference to the camera, just to aid in helping the assistant editor sync things up later on. After handing the camera owner/op a line-in cable and an adapter box, we were both flummoxed when he plugged in the mini-connector only to see the HDMI feed killed! I was stymied. We checked it two or three times... no go. There were some additional issues that resulted in us just killing the sound feed and going at it dual-system, with the camera recording its own scratch feed from the built-in mike. Sound was fine, under the circumstances, and I don't exp…

Worked with one of these the last couple days. Apparently you cannot jam 23.98 into camera? Could receive and could jam 29.97. Just giving a heads up and wondering I anyone else has experienced this?

Elsewhere, we touched on the Red Camera Company's decision on November 1 to cut the prices of the $34,000 Red Epic down to $19,000. This has caused a storm of protest from Red owners and rental houses, while also inspiring cheers from new owners who haven't spent any money yet. [Complete prices at this link.] The threads are interesting and relevant in terms of how the industry is changing, and what happens when technology is "democratized" (a term used often on the Red User Group) by price cutting. For those interested, here's a list of interesting threads, starting with CEO Jim Jannard's initial reaction to Sony's F5 and F55 4K cameras: Jim Jannard: Attitude A…

Not sure if anyone else experienced this but I just started a show with the Alexa 35. After 2 days, they will no longer accept timecode from the JB1 sync boxes. Switched out cables, different boxes, switched between the two cameras, changed output levels on boxes. Nothing is working. They will take the time code but eventually give an error code. However, the cameras do take Ambient sync boxes. Would love to solve this as I’m sure there is something we aren’t thinking of. Thanks, George
