Hi! I am happy to have found this forum! I have to sync my 50p footage for television to an audio recorder. timecode can only be provided to the camera Via mini jack audio LTC port. As the LTC protocol only allows frame rates up to 30p I can only select 25p in the ultrasync one timecode box. The software then has to interpret this timecode and calculate the timecode for my 50p video. I couldn't do this in avid or davinci resolve, does anyone know a way? I think tentacle sync studio can do exactly this but I don't own it and it is a rather complicated workflow. Does anyone know how to do it in an NLE? especially avid or dr?

I'm prepping a 2-hour docy that has an important one-shot premiere in a historic theater... in ten days. (Needless to say, it's not locked yet.) Of the two hours, about five minutes has stereo music or sfx. The rest is archive footage and new interviews. The theater can handle DCP, but the producer can't take the time for a lab. He's leaving my studio with a hard drive under his arm, hopping on a plane with the editor and his laptop, and they'll be syncing and compressing as necessary during the flight to the venue. The theater can also take BluRay with AC3, or play a stereo or LCR track with picture from a hard drive. I wan…

Has anyone else noticed that when you pull up the global clip gain (Shft-Ctrl + -), after you make gain adjustments, sometimes the undo doesn't function? T Sometimes it works, other times ...nada. I was doing a bunch of dialog gain adjustments and did about 10 of them, changed my mind and decided to try and undo them. No luck Chuck. Not sure if it's just me or if others have noticed. OH and btw; I'm using a windows system.

Hello All, So I'm noticing a weird thing in EuControl when trying to create a layout and assign tracks to it for my S3? Let me preface by saying I run on Windows. I'm able to pull up EuControl from the S3 (Shift + Sel). EuControls Sees Protools (I have my session open with the track's I'd like to add in the Assign page). But in EuControl's Assign tab all channel strips (1-16) which are by default set to auto assigned, won't let me change them. If I click on the dropdown nothing happens! (I have display applications track numbers checked). Further, if I switch to the Layouts tab, it won't let me name my Layout. If…

I just received this email from Avid: Important install update regarding Pro Tools products This email is to inform you that Pro Tools 2019.6 (released today) resolves an issue we uncovered where interruptions in internet connectivity can cause Pro Tools | First, Pro Tools, and Pro Tools | Ultimate to delete local (offline) Projects. We escalated this issue with high priority, identified …

I did a project this last week and they started first day with no timecode sync. To compound the problem the camera was set to 24 FPS and sound was set to 23.97... Looking to address the frame rate issue only in this thread. Any quick/cheap fixes? Batch processing? Public domain audio file converters? Thanks

I'm shooting a corporate video and sync the cam by TC. I will also do the post so I want to make sure editing does it right. Problem is, they're shooting on 4.6 K RAW and since the files need to be converted before they go to edit, I'd like to give them some advice as to at what stage audio should ideally be synced with the video files - before/after conversion? Or even sync to proxy video files? If anybody here is familiar with picture editing workflows, any advice would be welcome!

Hi there, I am pretty new to both post sound and Pro Tools software with pretty low-level/amateur knowledge of both. I have a film that has been edited in the latest version of Premiere with all the linked audio files attached. I tried to export both an OMF and an AAF however I can not get everything to transfer over correctly. This link provides what I am experiencing. Scroll down to Issue 4: "When an AAF links to source media, Premiere points to multi-channel audio files, which Pro Tools doesn’t support." Everything transfers over in sync and in the correct placements, but nothing is linked, all the clips are blank, and I am not able to re-link any of the o…

Hello, I get asked to mix some very indie projects in 5.1 and somtimes I don’t really see why. If there is nothing but a single boom track and music there really isn’t that much to mix. Is it worth the time to convert those projects to 5.1? I would assume you would at least want some foley/sound fx to really make a difference. Or is it that important to have more music in the back of the theater than the front? Thanks, Louis

Hi. I'm new here. I'm looking for feedback on an idea I'm developing. I'm working on a free, open-source app that syncs files based on LTC. If you're familiar with Tentacle Studio or Tentacle Timecode Tool, my app addresses a similar need, but is cross-platform and free. I'm in early stages of development. I am looking for feedback on how the software works in the real world, so I can focus my efforts on what works for real people. LTCsync runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. You can download a build for your OS from https://github.com/arikrupnik/ltcsync/releases/tag/0.1.1 Project home is https://github.com/arikrupnik/ltcsync

So apparently my system's upgrade and support renewal didn't go through in September. Never received an email or anything about the card being declined. I'm just now finding out about this 6 months later when I opened an old mix project to re-mix it into another format and the pro-expander/compressor wouldn't load.. Now AVID says because I didn't update in a timely fashion (wihtin 30 days) I have to pay the full price for reinstatement (an extra 500 bucks). You'd think they'd have some customer loyalty since I've been using their software since PT7. Beware corporate greed. Disgraceful.

Hello, I need to export a Pro Res quicktime with 5.1 and 2.0 mixes from Premiere. More precisely 8 channels of audio, the first 6 being the 5.1 mix, and the last 2 being the LT/RT. Premiere has a few different options to do this and I'm trying to figure out which is correct: Option 1 - settings In the image above, one can select either "mono" or "discrete" for the channel layout, which one should I select? A quick export with both settings and a get info on each quicktime file shows the following Mono Selected Discrete selected Option 2 - set…

Hi Is the Pro Tools Certification often requested in the US? I am experienced but I do not have any documents supporting my experience. If so, is there any online-courses that is recommended? I find some courses, but I can't tell if they are any fraud. :) Edward

Hey Everybody, Technical question: I’ve been asked to provide ProTools music playback for a video that will be filmed at high speed (47.952 fps) and then ultimately played back (or shown on TV) at 23.976 fps. To achieve this. the talent will be lip syncing with the 2x music, so that when it’s slowed down the lip movement will appear normal. My question is this: Is there any way for me to be sending timecode to the Location Sound Mixer as we are filming? ProTools doesn’t offer fps of anything higher than 30, and nor does the Location Sound Mixer’s recorder. Thanks

Is this a growing trend? I've noticed it recently, particularly on some of the mainstream narrative films among this year's screeners: There seems to be a casual attitude towards exterior BGs. Some scenes are filled, others in the same film are just dialog with an occasional music stab. At first I thought it was to reflect the characters' internal states... but no, they're conversing actively about relatively unimportant (or unemotional) stuff. Many of these scenes are not through-scored, so it isn't to let the music show through. (I learned last night that Cambridge has absolutely nothing moving other than the principals, while New York is stuffed with CU tra…

Hey everyone! I know this will probably be contentious so I will start by saying that in a perfect world post production shouldn't be using 'automix' BUT is there a similar plugin or system to how the Sound Devices Automix or Dugan Automix works for post production? Sometimes I get a bunch of ISOs and I need to get out a clean mix quickly. There's not the time for going through and automating all the ISOs. Recently, I've been running tracks through my 633 in realtime and recording back in the Automix. But since this is a digital process it has to exist in some plugin form. I know Waves has it but only for live production desks as far as I can see. I've tried using sidecha…

I first noticed this peculiar (large) use of compression on dialogue, ambience and fx stems on "The Neon Demon" film, and since then I've seen/heard it on several films and tv series (Personal Shopper, Bates Motel, The Duke of Burgundy...) and more often in commercials and movie trailers where everything sounds "in your face". Anyone noticed that too?

I am trying to move to using RME Totalmix directly for surround monitoring control with the RME Arc controller. Has anyone figured out a good configuration for this ? It seems much better in quality just connecting the monitors directly rather than using a hardware controller. I managed to get a mute group working for all outputs and a button toggles this. The volume dial can be used to control a fader group for all outputs with a recall for calibrated level. My issue so far I am trying to figure out. When I power on the speakers with the power conditioner there is now a loud pop, I could avoid having mute on the SPL active. I am trying to address this without …

Hey Everyone! So I noticed recently that when in Smart Tool mode, some times the Grabber tool (which is normally a 5 fingers outstretched hand) switches to what looks like a angled cupped hand? Does anyone know what this does AND ALSO how to turn it on/off? (mostly off). I noticed that when I click with that tool mode it draws a yellow line down into the region. I tried looking it up in the manual, and in online and can't seem to find anything related to it. Thanks! John

Does anyone know if there's an option in Premiere to view poly file metadata, most importantly, track names? I I spent half of yesterday doing a bunch of scouring on the interwebs trying to help out an editor that isn't familiar with poly files (because I'm a nice guy) and it looks like there is not.... I have FCP and the track names that I add in to my SD 633 are plain as day. See screenshot below: Thanks!

I've done a few 360 video mixes uaing Audio Ease 360pan suite, usually music or outdoor ambiences and the occasional presentation where talent is always visible. I'm gearing up to mix a slew of 360 videos that'll feature on-location interviews (usually a lav on the subject, the interviewer standing "behind" the camera to be painted out). I have the 360 panning sorted out but I am curious about the panning convention when the video cuts away from the subject while he/ she is still talking, making the interview audio effectively non-diegetic. If the cutaway happens mid-sentence do I leave the point-source panning in place or dissolve into non-headtracking audio like what a …
