Hello again hive mind! Im thinking in upgrading the TV set in my studio but I´ve found myself wondering "How will I send audio from my alt monitor output to the tv when VGA + PC In combo is gone? (at least from 90% of the new tvs available) I´ve found splitters that come out of hdmi ports and then turn into wither components or even vga+ stereo mini jack audio but I haven´t been able to find the same kind of deal in the opposite direction (separate video and audio to a single hdmi). Most of the tv sets i´m interested in buying only have hdmi ports as inputs and some of them also have components. I currently have my alt monitor ou…

Hiyas! It’s truly been a while since I posted anything here it seems.. Anyway, nowadays I work in radio and there's just a different approach to everything, basically. One thing is background noise for example. Journalists like to keep things realistic, and therefore there's not a lot of recording separate backgrounds to add on later. If they want bg noise in their speakers/VOs they just record them in the environment they want. Sometimes at least. Most (99,9%) of the time they don't want the noise. Anyway. The other day this guy had made a similar VO, recorded in the street. But he got some facts wrong and needed to replace a few words. So …

I was scanning the FB Production & Post-Production Sound for Film/Video group and found a discussion on Aligning phase in the polyphoninc dialog tracks. A lot of it was a rehash of a jwsound posting, but part of this reply popped out at me. I use Premiere/Audition, and when you Merge Clips (audio waveform matching just like PluralEyes), the waveforms are automatically time aligned to the best of the computer's ability. For mics that don't move a lot, that means you can blend them, no problem. I often throw down a plant mic for the purpose of giving me a 'reverb/room' track that I can blend into the lavs, which I find can often help match to the boom. If you …

Hello! Does annyone know of a plug in I can use with non-HD pro tools that does the same thing as the field recorder workflow function in HD? What about syncing recorder audio to an camera scratch track? Can I align audio with timecode in non-HD PT? Thanks:)

I've read everything I can find on neverclip but I'm still unsure about how the files are utilized in post. Once the file is written and saved as a .bwf is it ready to go through the post workflow or are there additional steps required to unlock the additional dynamic range? From the zax website: "NeverClip files areindustry standard Broadcast Wave files with extra iXML data included which canbe utilized by any post production system" Does this mean that there is an extra step required (with the ixml data) and do all DAW's support this process? Thanks in advance.

Hello Post Folks, I recently bought some waves plugins and it had been a while. I was bummed to find out after purchase they dropped ilok. curious to know if anyone here might help me understand waves central in that i see a way that you might be able to put "assets" on a thumb drive and basically make a 2nd ilok to swap between computers? i already moved a plugin once from one computer to another and i didnt realize this might have been a mistake as it says i cant move it again for a year, if i understand correctly? I cant make sense of how this works for some reason. they have their own language about license asset management that is confusing me -Ken

A question for the gurus who know more than I. 1. A client sends me an OMF of a 30 second commercial and asks me to sweeten the audio and give him a mix. Not a problem....done this many times before. 2. He edited his mix in Premier and sent an OMF to me for audio work. I asked and received a reference video as well. I use ProTools. 3. One of his clips in the timeline was speeded up in Premier to account for some guy talking too slowly during filming. Nothing terrible and if he hadn't told me, I may not have known. 4. However...he included the original audio clip (sans video) and wanted me to use that audio instead of the one he speeded u…

for some reason, the editor says the track names weren't on the files from my S633. I imported them to PT10HD and see the names. Is it a setting in MC or perhaps a setting that needs to be done when importing?

A good value? I know Pro Tools is the defacto standard but I'm not looking to do this on a competitive level. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/audiomastersuite?keycode=64873

Apologies in advance, I'm sure this is covered here on this group but I can't find it anywhere (yes I've tried various searches). I'm trying to import a polyphonic BWF file (8 tracks, recorded on Zoom F8) into Logic Pro X while preserving the track names that I have saved in the metadata. Is that possible? Seems like it should be a no-brainer but I can't make it work. I can do it by splitting the tracks into separate mono tracks via Wave Agent and then importing them separately into the DAW but then I lose my track name information, not to mention the annoyance of having to import each track separately. If you could help point me to some info on how to do this it would be…

It seems current versions of PT '21 work under Rosetta 2. But I can't find any info with regard to Izotope under Rosetta 2 on an M1 mini other than "not compatible with M1..." Is anyone using this combo?

I have a edited Feature film (Premiere Pro) that is picture locked. I have an AAF, EDL and XML. I use PT10HD. The AAF is fine. But I am wandering why an AAF and OMF rewrite all the files (using both embedded media and separate audio files)? Is there a easy way(automated way) to relink the original production sound files? Is it possible to rebuild the timeline using the original tracks without me manually doing it for each edit ?

Curious if someone might help me understand the pro's n con's of OMF vs AAF imports in pro tools. I have been using OMF for ever out of habit. Always encapsulated to keep things organized, and it would work perfect for my purposes except for a few occasions where the material is larger size and I would request separated - but this made things slightly difficult where I would have to manually connect the data which was a bit time consuming but worked in the end. Recently an editor I have been working with was sending me AAF's. Worked extremely well although contained a video track that would give me problems but I would just skip it on import and bring in video manually wh…

Hello All, I am attempting to encode a 5.1 source track into a 5.1 AC3 surround matrix using Neyrinck's Dolby Digital 2 plugin in Protools. I am creating a blu-ray for festival submissions. I seem to have everything in the right place (I've tested it in Dolby Digital 2's preview and all the correct channels are playing back in the assigned channel). However, when I take it over to my home theater system which is 7.1, I've noticed that the surround channels (Ls/Rs) are playing out of the mid-room surrounds and NOT the back speakers as would just a 5.1 configuration. When I play a consumer surround disk, they seem to play back properly, just…

I'm prepping a 2-hour docy that has an important one-shot premiere in a historic theater... in ten days. (Needless to say, it's not locked yet.) Of the two hours, about five minutes has stereo music or sfx. The rest is archive footage and new interviews. The theater can handle DCP, but the producer can't take the time for a lab. He's leaving my studio with a hard drive under his arm, hopping on a plane with the editor and his laptop, and they'll be syncing and compressing as necessary during the flight to the venue. The theater can also take BluRay with AC3, or play a stereo or LCR track with picture from a hard drive. I wan…

I have a sound effect that has a metal like sound, I like to minimize that metallic sound to make sound more dull, or take away the harsher metal sounds, which audio filter would be best suited to accomplish this? This is akin to the sound http://www.pond5.com/sound-effect/8593621/boltloosenscrew-s011in59.html Thanks

Hi, I was recording interviews for transcription on a 552. My SD card sh!t the bed during the interviews. I now have to figure out how to make the video files (probably mxf into pro res into ) Super small - or export audio files out of a timeline (with timecode) to get files to a transcription house that they can use. Anybody have experience doing this? It's panasonic p2 files avc intra 100, 1080, 24p. I'd obviously like to find the fastest way to pull this off. I have fcpX and a good macbook pro. John

I posted this in the computer section also, I hope that's okay, if not, please delete. I have a question for the post production / computer experts here. Our facility runs two ProTools HDX suites for audio post for Television. We mix in stereo only. The audio systems used to be synched to house black with an AVID Sync HD and the video satellite (AVID Media Composer with Mojo DX I/O) is also synched to house black . Since our workflow is entirely file based now I’m not sure if I still need to use the Sync HD and here’s the reason why I’m asking. We bought an IZ Technologies RADAR Studio for our A suite about 2 years ago. It replaced an old MacPro. Tha…

I know this is probably old hat to most of you guys around here, but I got my first on screen credit as a sound designer. The film gets a Blu-ray release on Tuesday. I have a few acting credits and soundtrack credits from back in the day. But I have never received a technical credit. I am chuffed.

Hi Is the Pro Tools Certification often requested in the US? I am experienced but I do not have any documents supporting my experience. If so, is there any online-courses that is recommended? I find some courses, but I can't tell if they are any fraud. :) Edward
