    wingman?

I used it on my iPhone most of the day on my cart/688/cl-12 set up, but then for a bit on my iPad Pro which works well but I'd love it to work Horizontal on that device but so far it only works vertical. Hopefully that will become an option soon. At the end of the day I sent my 633 bag off on a tow rig and 3 wires on the actors and rolled it w my iPhone Wingman app. Certainly cool for me. At $60-$70 bucks it's not even a question in my world. Getting a second one for the 633 full time. Thanks SD. This for me really rounds out the 6 series recorders. CrewC
  2. Plus 1 to AFMY comments. I still have my Solice and it sounds great as the front end to my Apollo 16 home studio (along with my old 1st wave Cooper 106). Analog is great, but I don't miss it at all with my CL-12, SL-6, 688, Venue system that I use for commercial work. I had many of your same thoughts before I made the switch Robert. I don't miss my old system as it's always there if I want or need it. CrewC
  3. E Pluribus Unum... Good share Whit. Ground_Zero.mp4
  4. I've been using the Addesso w my 688 w v 3.11 and never had an issue. Switching to v4.0 today so I can use Wingman. I upgraded my 366 last night at work to v4.0... works great w Wingman. I use mine w a power cable and the cl-12. All good. over 120 days so far this year. I've never used the 688 and a keyboard alone. CrewC
  5. Certainly a good idea. I use the X2 pot to feed the comteks and it's an ok work around if I remember to turn it back up. I'd like to have the kill function on the user buttons personally. They light up and it would be easy to see when engaged. On another note, the wingman app and dongle are great upgrades to the system. Thanks SD CrewC
  6. I used a Zaxcom recorder for 10 years with no issues that took a trip back to the mothership. Was I lucky? Hard to say. I have had headphone tips come off in the port but I got them out with a roach clip/suture clamp. Things happen w all gear. My SD 688 had to go in to repair the sd card holder. It's always a bummer when gear has problems but that is why I have multiple everything in the recording chain. Hope your luck turns for the better. CrewC

    wingman?

The Adesso keyboard I use inputting metadata is fine. Works well. I think Wingman will have more value to me because it opens up the display window to a very useable size. Plus it has a good eyewash factor to it. Well done Sound Devices. I've downloaded the app, just waiting for the dongle. CrewC
  8. My job is sound fx only. No dialog to record so no reason to use either mix assist or the Dugan. Kinda bummed but a one fader no brainier is its own reward I suppose. CrewC
  9. I have a gig next week with 3 or 4 actors in booths at a restaurant. No scripted dialog but I'm going to wire them up and test my Dugan 688 auto mixer. Seems like a valid test. You know actors are going to riff as they can't help themselves. Not even sure what to expect from the system but it seems like it might be useful if I understand what I've read about the technology. 10. Ha. Michael Evje. Great news. Makes my day. He was certainly one of the best while he did it. I hope he is well and enjoying life. I think the last time I saw him was at a dinner out in Topanga at Coufals house. That was decades ago. Great conversationalist and all around human being. CrewC
  11. All true Jeff. Back when we were young there was 3 major markets in the US and we all worked the same crew wise. Many more major markets these days and in the smaller markets OMB is the only way most of the time. I do wish more would do the 3rd then boom route to mixing here in L A. Some good folks in L A commercial world booming but not enough IMO. Must be hard for them to see the value of that kind of a craftman education. Of course nothing is the same as it was so what I think has value has changed with the tools & rules of the road. Just glad to have made it this far down the road.... CrewC
  12. It could be an experience thing R C or it could be that when I and the senile mixers here started, no one wanted to be a "Sound Man". Now it seems as if everyone wants to mix and sadly forgo the boom op and 3rd person positions altogether.... Maybe it's because we have been networking longer, way before it was called networking. When I started booming in commercials in the late 70's 10 guys did 90% of the work in that field. Now there are more mixers than I can count, but sadly not enough good boom ops.... Good question though. CrewC
  13. My sons Element died at 187,000 miles. He got it the 1st year they came out. Plenty of room for his sound gear. Never did agree w Honda stoping production. But they didn't ask me. CrewC
  14. Call Hand Prop Room in Hollywood... Ask to rent one. Personally I wouldn't rent the Film Co a good one.... CrewC
  15. My talent (such as it is) is shooting pix w an iPhone and jacking the image in iPhoto and other apps. I think I used Procreate and Waterlouge on this one. Fun way to spend down time at work. CrewC
  16. 1966 Ford... I painted it like this. CrewC
  17. For all you fans of "Fugly", my Ram ProMaster rules. CrewC Here is one w potential. CrewC
  18. Yep. Well deserved and hard earned. Congrats to J P and his crew(s). Cheers. CrewC
  19. I have. It's nice. Should be for the price. I'm happy w my ProMaster as it fits in my garage and is solely a work truck. Different needs for all folks. CrewC
  20. I don't normally LOL, but that was funny... CrewC 64 and a 1/2, with 1.5 kidneys.... I want to go till the phone stops ringing, (it's all emails n messages these days) or I hit 70. Then it will be full time doing my hobbies, music, (playing & recording & seeing it played), painting, photos, docs, eating well, drinking well, smoking good reefer, loving my family and living La Dolche Vita..... As a commercial mixer I do 140 - 150 days a year so really I'm getting a good jump on the next phase. Keep rocking Mick and that goes to all my elders too. CrewC
  21. More like 5 years ago. Scale has almost caught up in that it's over $500 by a little.... Sadly a lot of downward pressure on boom ops & their rates these days. I won't work without one on an IATSE commercial... I'm sure I loose gigs because I won't, but I must say that without a doubt, "I need one, so does the production. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right". CrewC
  22. IA boom OP's in L A get $550 to $600 for 10 hrs. Not sure about the rest of the country. NYC might be more. CrewC
  23. I certainly agree w Double P. If a room sounds good, even a single 41 can be great, but they are not good as close proximity mic's. He also brings up the most important issue w the SM7's and that is the drop off of everything as the source changes away from the mic. But if 2 people are wearing cans and talking to each other over SM7's, such a system usually self corrects itself when the participants get going. Obviously it "Depends"... CrewC
  24. Why not go w 2 SM7's? Great on voices. Good drop off. More than good enough for a podcast. Way cheaper and good to own a few for all sorts of work. CrewC
