Offending someone who hides behind a screen name, priceless.

    The bell of truth ringing.

I shot my flag yesterday and blended it with dead soldiers in Gettysburg and a quote from Plato yesterday, "Only the dead have seen the end to war". My 1st amendment rights defended by many allow me to make the statement. I thank and honer them too.

Even though I may sound older now than I am, but I want my technology to adjust to me not vice versa.

Well, obviously that’s not really true, but the point if the CL-12 and all other mixer controllers obviously is to bring us back the analog mixer experience. And that’s what I want. The more of a real mixer I have, the happier I am. That’s why I really like the new Aaton Cantaress controller, even though I just can’t justify its cost at the moment (or that of the prerequisite Cantar X3). The day I accept the trims on the 688 I might as well accept the on-boards fader dials. Why get the fader board at all?

Eventually I‘ll get used to it.

    Or not

Not sure how technology adjusts to an individual. Seems like all things are built with fixed limitations, no?

I know it's an age old tradition to bitch about the gear that manufactures build for the market but can you imagine the cost per unit if we could order custom builds from the vendors?

One small upside, charging per lav (and per ifb) is an easy justification to producers for the cost of our equipment.  While "wire everyone" may not be the way any of us would choose to approach production, at least we can charge for it.

True. And i do. Easyier to do in L A commercials than TV or Film but I've...  let's say grown to see the value of that workflow $$$. Still not the right way in at least 50% of the scenes I record.

  4. Interesting comments. Can't wait to hear the podcast. Sounds like a lot of complaining about iso tracks. Odd. It's my understanding iso's are post driven/requested/demanded thing. I know "wire em all" is an AD thing and I have zero issue telling a AD no. Hard to argue with a producer who gets a chain email from post wanting an explanation why we didn't wire em all.

  5. In the old days the 415's were susceptible to high frequency distortion (Like keys jingling) and could be problematic. Hard to really say in your case as there were so many variables possible. You have the recording to post so we could hear the issue? A schoeps 41 is my mic of choice in most situations and would of been in this one as well.

I have used Wingman on every show with both a 663 and a 688... no issues, while recording or not...  Mine has never shut off while working either..  who knows...  I am on a full size ipad3

This has been my experience as well. I set it up and roll it in the background though, seldom looking at it during a shoot.

  7. Not that it matters much what I think, but if I owned a company, I'd rather release a new product when the smoke has cleared and the visibility is at it's best, that seems to me to exclude NAB as a launch platform. Like J B, I've used various systems and whatever the shortcomings of the end recording, they were most likely mine and not the systems. It's funny to me that I used my 442 mixer yesterday to send my ProTools feed to my speakers and or earwigs on a playback record gig and we had 6 Lectro wireless mics and a CMIT mini from Schoeps in the mix and recorded it all on the 688/CL-12. Meanwhile, across town my son Case was using a PSC Solice front ending a MixPre10 with a combo of Lectro 411's and Srb's. In yet another part of town my brother Moe was using a Sonosax mixer front ending his Deva Fusion and using Audio Ltd radios. What was the common denominator? Aside from being Chamberlains? They were the tools we used on the day.

Big fan of all the tools available to us hard working;~) Sound People.

Exactly why I switched to R1A's, and they really do sound fantastic. They are solid and take the knocks. Apart from the odd bit of cosmetic damage I have only had one fail in over 10 years from a kit of 14. I find the headphones are more prone to damage and abuse than anything else. If an R1A did get completely trashed or lost I would be billing Production anyway.

Fantastic?  Better than a Comtek perhaps, but not that much to my old ears. Been doing commercials for decades and as much as I think Comteks sound like (whatever), no one else has ever complained. I mean big name directors wear em like all who need them. Everyone seems to know it's reference, not final product.

+ one to all stated above.

When production doesn't rent my kit then they don't rent me either...    I can't get into that potential can of worms 20 ways...

Probably best to pass on the show...  But this is up to people to decide for themselves..

    + 1     100%

But if you do, know that this serves no-one well other than these people hiring.
