  1. While were at it I just got these nice little caps off ebay. 4 quid for 100. Nice for keeping the fluff and dust out when you're not using them....
  2. Pat yes this is what I was thinking. The Audioroot ones are a bit long before the joint, so if they get a bang, I'm worried it'll snap em. Maybe the guys at Wisycom could make some with a shorter length..... I worry too much.... worry worry.... I did think of using two SMA right angle joints to achieve the same effect.... but it's not perfect....
  3. It's the internal pin which is likely to get worn first I guess. I've used 2020's for years with SMA connectors, and they never wore out, It's more that I don't want to have to screw the damn things on every time 'get my kit out'..... foldy downy ones are much more convenient... have to say I really like the Audioroot ones. £15 each on ebay.

    Aerials

So I bought these Audioroot aerials which are very nice, and I like that you can tilt each whip slightly differently, which I guess will be better for diversity. At the end of the day, you can just fold them down. Question is, are there any other solutions for having to constantly unscrew whips when you pack your kit away? I worry that long term the threads will wear out, and when I pack my kit away I hate having them there, as they are easy to bend/break. These ones have a bit too much length before the joint, so they still stick out from my bag a bit too much. Any other brands/makes I should be aware of? While I'm at it, I thought I'd mention that I have cut one of the whips 1.5 centimetres longer. Again I'm thinking this might give me some advantage diversity wise....... seem to get very good range with them.
  5. KT Systems. They have a loop on them you can use to rest your boom in. Saves your arms big time.
  6. Or you could buy some of these instead..... work just as well... Stick 'em all over your mixer.. http://www.tweekgeek.com/tweaks/tweeks-by-brand/steinmusic-e-pad-s/
  7. James, yes that's what I thought. I ignored Wisys advice and went with the length they used for their ones. Seems to work fine, although I haven't tested them to their limit. The good thing about the Audioroot jointed ones is that I can lay them flat in my bag when I'm not using them. It saves me having to unscrew the aerials every time I put my kit in it's case. It also means you can angle the two whips slightly differently thus getting better diversity. I did think of leaving an extra cm on one of the whips just to give better receptions when I'm using lower frequencies. Wisy have cut theirs for 680MHzish and I'm generally using around 600MHz.
  8. I bought Wisycom a few months ago. They've been rock solid. Very pricey though. They have compander settings for other mics like sennheisers which work very well. They also only consume 1.5W which is nothing. They can work in any country as they have a high bandwidth, which is handy if you're having a problem finding frequencies. PS. Sky use Wisycom for their sports stuff. They bought 200 sets.
  9. So I heard back from Wisycom. They said that they cut and test their antenna for a centre frequency of 682MHz 'considering the bandwidth and housing of the device and that there are two antennas' i.e. in their testing the housing of the MCR42 ads some 'virtual length' to the aerial. So I guess as I suspected there is an effect of the case and internal electronics on the resonant frequency. I'm going to cut them the same length as the originals. This seems like the best thing to do. Replace like with like. Although Wisy have said to follow the manufacturers instructions...... but I'm guessing the manufacturer's instructions don't take this 'virtual length' into account.... Am I being an idiot? Probably....
  10. Just meant that the length of a 670MHz whip based on the formula is not the same length as the '670' whip Wisycom has made. Just wondering why? Any ideas? What I meant by correction is that maybe the electronics change the resonant frequency slightly....
  11. John. Thanks for that according to your frequency calculator 670MHz should equate to 11 cm. The Wisy one is 9cm, which makes me think maybe the MCR42 receiver has some 2cm of correction in it. I've emailed Wisy. Will report what they say, as obviously this is good for everyone to know. I would have thought that the internal electronics might change the effective length of the whip by a measurable amount? If so, how do we find out what that amount is for each model of receiver?
  12. It's the ones I got with my Wisycoms.
  13. I just don't get why the dotted line correlates with 850MHz on the chart? The original is labelled 670 (MHz?), which sits nicely in the middle of the range.... so is the chart wrong? Or maybe it's got a correction in the receiver or something?
  14. Here's a photo of my original whip which is for the 566 to 798 range. As you can see it correlates with the dotted line...whatever that means...... maybe I should just cut the new one the same as this?
  15. Yup all. I bought an Audioroot flexible whip which comes with a cutting chart. I lined my original whip up with it and it correlates to 850MHz. My radio mics are 566 to 798MHz. Does this mean the chart is wrong? surely the whip should correlate to somewhere in the middle of the range? I assume I should just cut the whip to the same length as my original whip? Would it be worth me cutting the whip using the chart to something in the middle of the range? Or is the chart just plain wrong? Or does it just not work like that. I think it's unlikely Audioroot would be wrong. Chris
  16. Aw blimey so which one do I buy?....
  17. Just thought I'd chime in again. I've now done a few corporates, a 'grey' carpet (guess which film) and a number of other bits using my new Wisycoms and have to say the mics have been fantastic. Not a single radio hit. I used them across the olympic stadium - the range is superb. Very very happy with my purchase.
  18. Why does the cyclone not have fur in the video? Seems a bit unfair....?
  19. Thanks Chap. What about the fur? What's the new stuff called?
  20. Thanks fellas. I think I'm going to get a Piano for my MKH60. Is there a hard case for it? Anyone using anything that protects it well? Also has anyone had experience of it? Good or bad? Also what type of fur should I order? This new stuff?
  21. Have just contacted O Video who say I'm the first person to raise this issue with them. They'll ask Japan tomorrow. I'll post the response.
  22. I bought three cos-11 a few months ago. All have the new windscreen. The main thing is that you now have plastic scraping against your mic body rather than rubber every time you take the screen off/on. Basically we are getting a cheaper badly engineered alternative for the same money.... not good....
  23. Thing I don't like about the Piano is it's very wide. Difficult to fit in a case. Could do with being narrower?
  24. Why don't they make the lav bullet plastic so it doesn't get cold?
