  1. In all of the threads that talk about the troubles of Zaxnet whine getting into comteks in a bag situation, I don't think I've ever heard from the guys/gals out there that use the BST-75-216 in their bag. Is there anyone out there who uses a BST-75-216 in their bag along with an IFB100/200 and can attest to whether or not the good ole Zaxnet whine gets into your comtek signal? I do have a friend that uses the BST-75-216 alongside a nomad in the bag and doesn't have the zax whine issues but the built in Zaxnet tx in the Nomad is only 50 mW (vs 75mW in the IFB200) so that still leaves me wondering. I'm thinking the all metal enclosure that the BST series has would definitely help with RF protection.
  2. I'm thinking I'll try and wrap my Comtek tx with this in an attempt to kill the Zaxnet whine
  3. Hello fellow 'soundies', I've been working as a freelance mixer in LA for 4 years now. I have been getting some great work as a mixer but would love a chance to Boom or Utility for an experienced vet. Check out my website for more info on me and my previous work @ www.THSnodgrass.com. I'm currently not in the 695. Have the days to join as a mixer but have only received one union job offer in my 4 years working professionally here in LA, so I can't justify the dues. As a Utility, I have a full bag of tricks for lav placement.. a good understanding of how our department fits into the greater scheme on set and great people skills (10 years waiting tables in LA). As a Boom Op, I'm great with my cues (study the script thoroughly) can ride the frame line on the move and have a way of getting the picture dept to warm up to my presence If you need someone to fill in for your trusty sidekick, I'd love the opportunity. Let me know!
  4. I read a post on jwsound just a week or so ago that had a link to a website where you can order kits and build your own Dinkum style fleximount arms. I believe he/she mentioned that they are meant to be used for some sort of aquarium tubing. Can't find the post anywhere! If someone could post a link to that thread or the website that sells the kits that would be awesome! Thanks in advance.
  5. Just donated for the first time.. definitely wont be the last. Love this forum! I've had a JWsound tab open in my firefox browser for a few years straight.. reading posts daily. I rarely post anything because almost every question I have has been answered in detail in the past. Thanks Jeff!
  6. On a side note... I'd love to know more about the QFL and what type of tool it is. I tried to search for info on it and all I could find was an old B&H page that has no product details other than calling it a "suspension rig". In what type of situations do you put this puppy to use??
  7. I really do appreciate all the good insight from you guys! I've been reffering to this forum for the last few years to answer many of my questions and I've gained a respect for the senator, JB and old school among others. For me, it's exciting just to get input from you guys!
  8. old school : thanks for the input/encouragement.. I certainly intend to work my way up and I'm willing to start at the bottom. senator : visiting Beau has definitely shined some light on many ways I can improve. I'm doing my best not to really form any habits good or bad. I'm learning as much as I can on my own, but really I'm looking forward to being "molded" by the more experienced people I hope to work with in the future.
  9. Thanks for the good input! I'll be sure to check out the "who am I" thread. Just for the purposes of whom ever might be reading this... I have worked for a company called Acting Trailers for the last two years as thier production sound mixer and dialogue editor. It's a small company, we do one/two reels per month at most. Here's a link to a few projects http://vimeo.com/88311247 I've also done a few short films in the last year as well as some sizzle reels and a "pilot" episode of a travel show. Here is a link to the travel show http://vimeo.com/89252737. I also did the SFX and dialogue editing for this project. I've also been able to shadow Beau Baker on the set of Grey's Anatomy multiple times. That was very helpful in getting a feel for the workflow of a more professional gig.
  10. Senator, Very valid question! I do have some clips of work I've done... but I suppose, at some point, I might just need someone to make a small leap of faith I may not be a "great" boom op (yet)... but I feel very confident referring to my self a "good" boom op.
  11. To all LA Sound Mixers, My name is Thomas Snodgrass and I'm trying to break into the location sound biz I've been doing small freelance gigs here and there while working full time in a restaurant. I own a 633, MKH-50 and 60 but rent all of my wireless etc for my gigs. If you ever need a good boom op or utility I'd love to be added to your list. I have an audio engineering degree and years of experience with all types of audio equipment. Also, if you ever just need a little "pro bono" help or are willing to let someone tag along and pick your brain, I'd love the opportunity. Thanks! -Thomas-
