  1. I have had this problem with a Neumann km150. I spoke to my sennheiser rep and he said there was a solution if I sent it in. I think some older mics are prone to interference. The culprit was a large light. I have never had it since with that mic but I also retired it for location use. I have used it multiple times on stage and for recording since. Reach out to a rep they normally have an idea if the model and year is prone to interference.
  2. I'm not sure about stories of getting great range from wireless but I have had some tough situations doing college football. I do UCLA football and the Rosebowl is one of the toughest environments in Pac 12. This season it was pretty crowded with Mt. Wilson and random hits. My antennas and receiver live at the press box because getting lines to the field can prove challenging for radio. I basically bullied my way through with lectro @ 250mW. I switched from a handheld to the smqv. The frequency coordinator and myself became friends during the past season and the noise floor was such my HH outputting 100mW on an analyzer looked as if it was turned off. After I made the switch to the smqv it cleaned up everything which was a great choice as my sideline reporter's mic is hot a majority of the time. If you can imagine mixing a show with constant noise in your ears, that was what the first 3 games was to me. Az St was worse than the Rosebowl this year. I showed up did a scan and immediately knew I was going to have a hard game. The entire block was full. I had to move my receiver and antennas to the field and broadcast over a low power TV station. It worked. I spoke with the TV broadcast crew and a nice lady offered me some painters poles. I gaff taped my typical antenna setup to the poles and crossed my fingers. They made it through the game. I got occasional hits when my sideline reporter was at the opposite 20. The hurdles of live radio being alone and on the road is a tough gig. I traveled with the team so I had to get a spotter to retrieve the RX while I packed up my setup before the team left. I wish I had photos of the BNC when it came back to me, I'll leave it at that. We got on air and had a sidelines reporter, successful show. Here are some photos of Macgyvered painter poles from that game.
  3. Guys here is a video review just released of the deity, the gentleman producing may likely be on this forum.
  4. The camera had side brackets and a handle. I was able to get some cold shoe receivers and add them to the brackets. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1607255-REG/tilta_ta_csr_b_cold_shoe_receiver_attachment.html Also my camera hops had shoes with 1/4 20 on them. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1593279-REG/smallrig_2065b_7_inch_articulating_arm.html. This allowed me to get to camera hops easily. I didn’t have to touch the tc-1 because I can monitor via camera and app. Maybe this will help some. Also a simple thread adapter would work as the tc-1 has a 1/4 20 on the bottom of the shoe.
  5. I used the tc-1s on set for the first time yesterday. They seemed to work fine. I had no issues with power and it was a 12hr day. I left them on cameras and they had plenty of battery left. It is nice to be able to monitor via app, and have a screen on boxes. I did pick up a straight 5pin lemo cable for arri alexa mini LF but the right angle worked, although close to sdi 1 output. I don’t recall if the sdi 1 output was utilized. I also have a jb-1, but it was in the shadows for jamming two more cameras that miraculously appeared. I enjoy the app, but I haven’t compared the app to tentacle’s app. It’s been a while since I’ve used those. I was able to sync all boxes via app. I left two boxes on cameras and one on my recorder. The shoe mount was handy as I was able to mount with some accessories. My only complaint are those bright yellow cables.
  6. I just purchased my first RF this year. I have used many brands throughout the years and each brand has their own unique qualities. During COVID I had been doing an array of different gigs. There are many factors that I considered when purchasing. My main criteria was sound quality, price and utility. My first RF purchase was the Sennheiser G4. I decided the 500 series would be the best for multi-purpose use. The 500 series has three main features that dictated my purchase over the 100 series. Those are 50mW output power, a headphone amp on the receiver and mke 2 lav. On a clean frequency the sennheiser sounds great and I have never had any issues. The mke 2 sounds great and it gets the job done. I believe these are underrated and I may purchase more as they are inexpensive and can be such a utility piece. In addition I purchased this inline preamp for the mke 2 with 3.5mm. It has been used on various instruments when I need something discrete and run out of 4099s. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387918-REG/Sennheiser_MZA900P_MZA_900_P.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gclid=CjwKCAiAp7GcBhA0EiwA9U0mtqiH93cgF-5Eq5te3KAFzBSS98GoKdXdAO8llvXtc0w2QEz93v4sThoC2q4QAvD_BwE My opinion on Senneheiser is they were ahead of their time with the digital stuff. It is built well and I have used their top of the line units. It sounds great but you cannot change settings from the receiver like Shure and it is not cheap. I used the 6000 series on a film in 2021 and I loved the SK6212s. They are tiny and last a long long time something like 12 or 14hrs if I remember correct. I also tried their EK6042 but with SK5212s. That receiver is backwards compatible with all of their stuff. I do not remember if it was power hungry but I do remember it was heavy built like a tank. I have been using lectro for the past two years in extremely tough environments. While I chose not to purchase lectro it was critical for me at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, one of the toughest RF environments in Pac 12 football. Lectro makes the only transmitter that outputs 250mW. This was the only device that would get above the noise floor and allow me to do a show where my antennas were located at the press box. While I believe digital systems sound better, I am not sure if any of them would make the distance. Perhaps it was the environment but I never loved the sound of the system. It does get the job done and when I am in a challenging environment, 250mW is comforting. My first Pro Purchase Last year I rented an axient system to record an opera. This was a rack mount system with adx1s and dpa 4066. When I returned home and listened on proper monitors I was blown away. I ordered axient the following day. After months of waiting and waiting, I stumbled onto the exact system I ordered at a local store. I purchased my first system and I couldn’t be happier. I am still putting it through its paces . While axient is expensive I believe it is the best sounding system available. One could buy the ad transmitters and get the system a lot cheaper. Shure is the complete package with WWB, showlink, and the array of options. Audio quality is top notch. They offer lemo on all beltpacks. I am fortunate to work at some pretty large venues and all of them use axient. I haven't tested the ADX5D in stadiums yet, but I have done tests with axient handhelds and rack mount receivers in stadiums with surprising results. The only thing that is problematic is lead-time.
  7. Simon Didn't you already ask a similar question on here a few days ago? I believe multiple people answered your question including myself. A lot of speakers are multipurpose.
  8. Simon depends on your budget. I like qsc 10.2s and if you are doing music you can always pair them with a sub. If you have the budget I like Meyer. They recently released up4 slim speaker it looks really sleek with small subs. Column arrays seem to be popular these days for quick setup, rcf makes some that are more affordable. I personally haven’t used rcf, only seen and heard them at trade shows. Again, for day to day quick setup QSCs are really affordable and a quick return on your investment. Consider that each model has a different dispersion 10s are wider than 12s, when you decide to purchase . Meyer in my opinion are the best money can buy but they aren’t cheap. What console are you using for the work?
  9. These are a good option as I have used them with success with several projects. They look good, are portable, and quick to setup if you are in a studio environment. The only downside is cost and depending on the size of the room you may require a lot more than two. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProMAXCHAv2--auralex-promax-v2-charcoal Here is a video on basic signal flow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-v75Mgh9dA
  10. Dave, I have had the same problem with Mixpre 10t (firmware detected/updating message). I have also received timecode errors while only using AA batteries . Sound Devices recommended to use the wall power adaptor while doing the update. I am not convinced that this made any real difference. If my recorder is left off for a period of time and then powered on I will get the message(only while using AA batteries). It seems to be an issue when using the AA batteries. I have not had the message while using my external battery (Remote Audio Hi-Q). I was worried that I may have had a bad unit but after talking to SD they assured me it was a known issue and they were working to resolve it. Dave what are you using to power your recorder?
  11. Thank you old school. The less is more approach is what I typically go for in my work. I often reiterate how powerful silence is, although there is no silence in this film, during my last few live theater designs homage was paid to John Cage.
  12. Jay, Thank you for the response. I am currently reading Dialog Editing for Motion Pictures and I have spent more time with the actual dialog within the film. As I am going through and learning more about the process of film, I am becoming more aware of the workflow and how important the work-flow is even before the production process, much less the actual post production process. You are right about the eq and this is why implementing preview automation mode in protools is something I am excited about exploring further, particularly within the reverbs and the space of the picture. I like to hear your thoughts and learn from your experiences including others. I come from a live theatrical background and much of the workflow is new to me. Unfortunately, I was not able to be on set during the production process, but I spent a lot of time removing as much noise as possible from a near by airport. We rushed a bit on this trailer and I recorded Foley and mixed to be put online within 4hours. For my first film given the timeline and budget I am happy with what was achieved but I am always striving to do more and learn from others. I know I have a lot of knowledge to gain. Please tell me about your process when you think about characters and eq? And how much consideration do you give audience? Thank you again for taking the time to look and critique. I value your opinions.
  13. Hey guys, I have not been active on the forum for sometime because of academic studies and productions. I did collaborate recently on my first student film. I did the sound design, mixing, dialog editing, foley recording and ADR. While it is still being finessed and finishing touches are being made, I thought I would share the trailer with you. If you want to check it out, I would be grateful. The actual film is being mixed in 5.1 (subtly). This is the first time I have automated something in entirety with preview capture with both eq and reverbs. I used the avid S6 for automation with VCAs and assigned fader groups within the S6. Perhaps I will do a video in the studio setting if it is of interest to any of you. A lot of the film was shot without sound and it has been keeping me busy for the past few weeks. Thanks Harlow Click on the Link it will redirect you.
  14. Thank you, I am over "The China Syndrome". (1979)
  15. Hello all, I want to thank you for following this post and I hope we all have learned about being more careful when purchasing used items. I certainly have become more skeptical when it comes to purchasing larger items. My money was returned after small claims papers were served. Thank you for allowing me to share my story here online with you. I attended the Zaxcom event last week and met some of you. I hope you all have a great week and thank you... I must now fill an empty Rycote Super Shield.
  16. Here is a show I designed last semester, I just saw this thread and I don't know if you guys are into theater but it was a great show. Coverage was tough in the round with all the walls and the large beam in the space, but I had a great Meyer system UPAs, UPJs, UPMs and older apogee subwoofers. If you are interested in checking out more we had a talented student video documentarian. The videos are much more interesting than my photos. http://growcloser.tumblr.com/
  17. My life this past few weeks has turned into the Truman forum. I have been victimized, called names, insulted, threatened and defrauded. Posting to this forum gave me a response and hopefully protected someone doing transactions in the future with Justin Blakely. I came forward when I knew a fraud. I have had sleepless nights and put work behind because I had no choice but do what is right. I am angry, deflated yet not defeated. I decided to stand up and call out when someone among us lies and cheats. I got on this forum as a last resort and I put my reputation on the line. I am not ashamed to put my name out and my name isn’t a common one. I am disgusted and angered with what I have seen from this individual. All of this was over $700.00, for some of you it might be a drop in the bucket. That is over 77 hours of work-study for me. I purchased this microphone with the intent of taking on side projects. This issue is also about more than that. It is about doing what is right. We all are in this industry to do what we love and pursue something that enriches our lives. We should always be helping one another both as friends and colleagues. Overwhelmingly that is what I have received from this forum. I had planned on keeping the information Mr. Trew has revealed private. I am relieved that he put this information out publicly on this forum, and made a decision I didn’t have to.
  18. I am not trying to to bash anyone's reputation here. I am simply telling the truth. The State of California on the other hand... Suspended a Business License
  19. This was not an ebay purchase, this was another buyer referring to Justin Blakely.
  20. Simon, I am a victim here. I would not do anything to jeopardize Jeff or the forum. I received a response because of this forum. This is not intended to air grievance but to serve people like yourself from being victimized.
  21. A picture is worth a thousand words. And a forum gives access to thousands of people
  22. I want to personally thank Michael Miramontes, for his words yesterday. He is a stranger to me, yet came forward. Thank you Michael
  23. Carli, I would be happy to if I had a real 416. I believe you would be better going to the source of the fake 416. He is on this forum JboB he left a response yesterday that was removed. I believe he should repost for all to see.
  24. Justin Blakely sold me a fake Sennheiser MKH 416. The microphone he sold me is fake. I am only telling the truth. After using the microphone a week after the purchase it took me a few days to figure out why it did not sound correct. After researching, I found on this forum that the microphone was indeed not what he advertised it to be. I'm not trying to offend his southern traditional roles but his irresponsibility as a professional or one who claims to be he would have tried to make it right with me when I first contacted him. He admitted purchasing Chinese knockoffs of Sennheiser MKH-416 microphones. He sold me a fake Sennheiser MKH-416. Sennheiser is rock solid but he did not sell me a Sennheiser. For those of you that saw the rebuttal of yesterdays statement. I have graduated from a audio technical college just as some of you. I also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sound Design from one of the top colleges in the country. I will have a Masters of Fine Arts in another year. That is a terminal degree in the field of Sound Design. I believe my “ears” are doing just fine. I will not stop my pursuit. I will prevail and I will come openly and honestly to this forum with more detailed information. If you are friends with Justin Blakely I would strongly urge you to encourage him to return my money before he further damages his own reputation. here is a link I found on another forum. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/moan-zone/505823-ebay-seller-warning.html
