    QRX100 issues

yes, I am listening to the QRX from the STA. No interference really possible. The units were pretty well right beside each other. No bluetooth active, no microwaves within any range, and the wifi signal is next door. Thanks for the suggestions though!!!

Hey gang, Another question for you. check out this wave file. It's a file I recorded (sorry for the not amazing quality, it was done very quickly) but you can hear the pops/clicks I'm getting on the audio files. the audio is clean on the "camera" but the return is not. Plugged through a mixer or headphones directly into the STA150, the pops happen. You can hear them at 2,5, 11, 17, 20, 26, and 32 second marks. So it's also random and intermittent (the best kind of problems). STE-001.wav - 9.44MB
  3. POST TO THE HOST: WHere's the like button? So does this mean we'll have stereo speakers on the iphone 5?
  4. just saw the sound guy. He's shaken but so happy to be alive. The helicopter had taken a turn around a corner, following a cop car, and spun out and crashed. The sound guy walked out of the chopper. He looked back to help and what he saw wasn't pretty. The director inside is in stable condition but the camera man is still in critical care.
  5. Production company is Canadian. We have big tax incentives but just like any canadian law, it's always comes with big stipulations. One of them being, the crew, the gear, etc. have to be Canadian. Apparently the pilot was trying to land on a rooftop of a house party...and missed. I know the sound guy walked away and after a few stitches is on his way home.

    QRX100 issues

Thanks Jack, #1 It seems odd there's no frame rate auto load but thanks for the knowledge. Isn't the point of it to be wireless instead of adjusting two units? I guess if you know you're frame rate, you won't adjust much after that. #2 There is a menu that I can't find listed in any of the manuals. the IFB OPT menu. The first screen it gives is your IFB freq. Underneath that is your meter. I thought the meter represented timecode. What's odd about it is there is always level there be there audio or not. The level jumps when i plug audio in. The next is IFB input mix with L-R, L+R, Left, RIght, QRX Only, L-R + QRX, L + QRX and R+ QRX. What do these mean? Next, I see TC Time entry with hours, minutes and then JAM. I hit the A/B button to cycle through and once it reaches jam, a new menu pops up that says TC JAMMED and running code underneath. Unfortunately, it's not the code that is plugged into the unit. If I restart the unit, scroll over to that menu and hit the UP button on the jam, it starts at zero again. If I hit the down arrow, it seems to jam the frames and seconds but not the minutes. It also doesn't adjust the frame rate from its source. I guess I set that as well? #3 - see #2 #4 - ok cool, keep us posted! Thanks again Jack!

    QRX100 issues

Hey Gang, Question #1 I can send timecode into the QRX100 with QIFB option (from a syncbox, not from a deva - i couldn't get it to work). The TRX900AA will see the timecode from the QIFB and read it but it won't read the frame rate? Should it not send both? there's no "auto" or "load" in the frame rate menu. #2 I jam into the QRX by powering on/off? It seems to be the way - along with going into the IFB extended menu and cycling through to Jam. It doesn't seem consistent. #3 Is there no meter for the IFB input? How do I know there's audio there? #4 if I turn off the QRX100, the TRX900AA seems to continue to run timecode. Is there a way to have record run? I thought there was. I don't see an option for continuous jam. It always says GEN and not for instance, READ. I'm in Auto-load on the TRX900AA. Thanks so much guys, any help is appreciated,
  8. So - the point of the hash tag is that coffeysound can post using the same hashtag as all the other suppliers as well as manufacturers and social media sound guys. so @coffeysound, instead of trying to steal thunder and make people follow two things - why not just use the same hashtag so everyone can follow everyone? awesome, right?
  9. you can just follow along online. You have a computer, log in to a full twitter!
  10. If you'd like to share a photo or video on Twitter, it must first be uploaded to a third-party website, as Twitter does not currently host any content other than Tweets. So - you'll also need twitpic or Flickr on your phone or laptop to cross share photos. Twitpic is basically the twitter version.
  11. and Eric - you could post - @TwadeinTO go to the Lectro booth and take a photo of their front end tracking SR unit for me #NABfieldaudio
  12. Yes Twitter! It's great for an event like this. What am I talking about? Essentially everyone can communicate with each other via twitter in an open forum, passing information around quickly and easily by using a hashtag. Essentially, a post on twitter would appear like this: At the Zaxcom booth, check out the Nomad picture! #NABfieldaudio Anybody doing a search for #NABfieldaudio will see everything related to the sound guys in particular. me=TwadeinTO
  13. Howdy, Twitter is a great tool for instant updates. if you don't have it, it can make for interesting reading. Just follow the headlines and read more as people provide links and/or photos. My vote, even if you're just following, it's worth it to have it. Especially for NAB. If you install it, just follow a quick and easy 5 minute tutorial and it'll all make sense, I promise. I have a proposal and that is #NABfieldaudio Now, if you have no idea what that means but you've seen it before, it's worth understanding. Definition: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages. Read more here: http://support.twitter.com/entries/49309-what-are-hashtags-symbols Essentially, I think all vendors, manufacturers and location sound professionals can have one hashtag to follow. This will filter the information that you want to read about and take out the information you don't care about. 411 front end filter power! I'm proposing all us sound people use this #NABfieldaudio to post and to follow. If one were to use the hashtag #NAB - then you'll get a million posts about satellites, helicopters, video cameras, etc. and although cool, not necessarily helpful. That way, all the folks at home can follow right along and all the folks there at the event can spread good info around. Coffey? Gotham? LSC? PSS? TAI? Trew? Scott Farr? Oleg? Studiomprd? Wexler? Pascal? Perkins? RPSharpman? Old School? RVDMixer? W. Ince? Marc Wielage? Sound Devices? Zaxcom? Aaton? Nagra? Sennheiser? Lectrosonics? Who's got a twitter account so I can follow you along? etc. etc. etc. What say you folks? #NABfieldaudio
  14. Blame Edison I say, since he introduced the first commercially practical lightbulb in 1913 we have lost 1.5 hours of sleep. Lightbulbs allowed for factories to introduce 24 hour manufacturing. Was technology not supposed to free us? Seems like it's enslaved us all. Why didn't we ever invent machines to make it easier for us? The next time you're on set, propose nap time. Although it sounds juvenile, argue it this way. Do you honestly believe that your skill level will improve after 3 with a cup of coffee vs. an hour nap on a hammock? of course, without lightbulb's and technology, we'd probably all be out a job. but fight for the nap I say. We could all use a little reflection and relaxation.
  15. I'm with you Pascal, had to think for a while, "wow, that's a really cool feature but...wait, how would this work?" love Lectro for this.
  16. Hi Andy, You can do it with the QIFB. The QIFB is the same as the IFB100. The difference is the menu isn't immediately apparent. You simply have to dig deeper in the menu of the QRX to get the the IFB options.
  17. I've had good results with these. Coily cable, silicone-like curve sits on the ear, ear bud sticks in the ear and a stereo right angle plug at the end. Camera guys love'em. http://www.pryme.com/products/earphone/EH-300
  18. I think the only thing really holding back the solid state media taking over is the daily rushes. DV40 is and has always been the machine to "scrub" the dailies. The Tascam machine looks to replace it with CF cards as its media. It'll be interesting to see if it goes in to use once released.

    Canadian 700mhz!

a little update and for mild clarity the usage and operation of low-power licensed radio devices has been prohibited in the band 698-806 MHz. In the public safety bands, 764-776 MHz and 794-806 MHz, existing devices will be permitted to operate until March 31, 2011. In the remaining bands (698-764 MHz and 776-794 MHz), existing devices will be allowed to operate until a later date, which will be announced by the Department. ] Since Jan 2010, the Department has no longer accepted applications for certification of low-power licensed radio devices that operate in the band 698-806 MHz. So in answer to your question - new devices should no longer be purchased as they are no longer permitted in the band 698-806 MHz.
  20. This has a 2 channel output for its 5.1 mix that needs to be decoded down. Anyone know absolutely if sending the same audio wirelessly from the top of a camera back to the mixer would still be able to be decoded? Is there another signal in the line that needs to be carried with the audio? I'm assuming it'll work but just thought I'd post.
  21. can someone sneak a picture of the back of the micplexer and Zaxpaq and post it here?
  22. a test with the IFB100 - you can set ID's for each unit and control them individually. There is an option in the software to control all trx's at once. I haven't tested the QIFB board for the QRX100 yet as it's not yet available...but soon?!!? Why would the same software in the QRX limit you to only two? I'm interested.
  23. The S-series is pretty good for all the reasons listed: quick access, ease of use, etc. In rain mind you, there is that heavy chunk of plastic in the middle that could cause some unwanted water droplet noises heard in the mic. Consider a rainman if you get the S series. Also, if the Lyres inside aren't strong enough to support a heavier mic you could hear it banging against the inside shell. Things to keep in mind is all.
  24. Just some curiosity about the superCMIT I believe it's an AES42 signal. Would it still work on an AES3 signal given it's only one way of communication? Is it powered from P48 or does the digital signal take care of the powering?
  25. In Canada, we have the MicroFIT program (FIT = feed in tariff). Essentially, you buy all the equipment (that is tax deductable), install it on your roof and feed electricity to the grid - not to your own house. The government charges approx 12 cents a Kwh but pays you for the energy you create at 80 cents an hour. It subsidizes the purchase of the panels this way. The 80 cents is a guaranteed contract for twenty years. It's not a big ROI but you'll have paid off the solar panels (interest and all) in approx. 12-13 years and the rest is profit (20-25,000). It's not a bad plan. Sun is always renewable, it falls and always comes back to rise. The idea from the government is that neighbourhoods support themselves with their own power.
