  2. Agreed - it's not a worry for the people with 552's to get their direct outs now + the stereo mixdown. An additional 2.5 pounds for the piece of mind might be worth it. No timecode, just a backup.
  3. Hey guys, Thanks for the tips. The microphone is an MKH 8050. The lavs are Sanken Cos-11's.
  4. http://www.cinematographyelectronics.com/cine_tape_measure.htm just wondering if anyone has had any issues with this on a film set. It seems to be affecting all my microphones at about the 14khz range. Any ideas? suggestions? Thanks!
  5. "The Informant" opens up with lots of shots of the Nagra SN. it's funny, throughout the movie, to see what the police are using for their spy equipment. Also, in the new Pelham 123, the Remote Audio Speakeasy has a major appearance...but disguised - with a Sony sticker over the speakeasy sticker on it. Why they would make that choice??!?! I mean - a speaker looks like a speaker - do you need the Sony branding on it?
  6. Powerex have 2 types of batteries. Their 2700 Mah ones will last a long time. They also have their Imedion variety that, much like the eneloops, will hold a charge for a long time after being pulled from the charger. It's different chemistry inside the battery. I've heard great things on the eneloops and if you like the powerex brand and trust it, give the Imedions a try. Powerex/Maha have their 8 bank charger with individual circuits to charge each battery evenly as opposed to the inexpensive chargers that have one circuit that starts charging all 4 compartments as soon as one battery is placed inside. The wizard charger from Maha/Powerex is a 4 bank that does deep cycle reconditioning of batteries - it's a great system as well. Something worth looking into.
  7. I assume you do, how did you find yourself in audio? I just wanted to post this. If you need some new music in your life, here are 75 of the best songs from 2009 that you can download for free! And since "they" say that 80% of people that download music also buy it, I encourage this kind of sampling. It's also a great website about new music. http://www.saidthegramophone.com/ Here is the link for the 75 songs (it's about 300mb in a zip file) http://www.infinitemb.com/download/6424/STG_2009.zip/ Enjoy!
  8. love that rear patchbay! the cooling system...very well thought out. Very nice work Simon.
  9. thanks! I am using the 2931 cable. I made some adjustments but I still get bleed. This lemo looks nice but at $60 each connector, it's expensive...and robust and sweet and withstands . FGG.2b.310.CLAD92 any other ideas? hirose?
  10. sad but true, in Canada, I know of 5 maybe 6 across the country. One local union lists one female sound mixer, no boom while the other lists one boom and one mixer.
  11. Howdy, trying to build a breakaway cable that sends both L+R audio from the mixer to the camera, has the return feed from the camera AND carries timecode. I tried using the SC8/NC8 solution from Neutrik and grounding to the shell but I still get bleed of timecode on the return audio. I need more pins! I know lemo would make a killer solution and a costly one. Any good ideas on a push pull or latch lock connector with 9-10 pins? The hirose 10 pin is just a little bulky and cumbersome. Thanks!
  12. What is your application? What are you using it for? Movies? TV? ENG work? One thing I'm not a fan of is the cards for memory on the fusion. Their innovative MARF format on one drive is a great idea. I would want to store a whole show on one card really so I can deliver to anybody anytime on whatever format they want when mirroring off the drive. CF cards of any great size and reliability get pretty expensive. I really like the 260gb SSD drive on the 788t. I argue often over which sounds better so I can say they both sound good.
  13. condoms, tampons and - but that's more for sweat than submersion. I don't want MM400c's. Anybody tried the Remote Audio Waterboxes? How about the aquapac? http://www.aquapac.net/usstore/waterproof-iphone-case-br-code-104-1792-0.html any solutions or ideas would be greatly appreciated
  14. ...or wave agent and I I'd go 788t just for the weight and the fact that it gets pretty close to a mixer. Ok, so there's no camera return but it works double duty should they need separation of talent...7-8 people being mixed down to two tracks is an art form, having the isolated backups might make you a hero later....and then sell it to them for the next season...so you make more money to pay for the acupuncture, chiropractor, massage and physio.
  15. The last two examples are the perfect explanations of why you need front end tracking. In heavy RF environments, the 411 filters out the noise and only allows your signal to pass through. The 401 has a little bit more of an open door. Range is only affected by way of your transmitter power. There are other factors, sure, but in the case of ENG tx to ENG RX - it's really only your transmitter power that will change your range.
  16. i didn't mind it - and i was in bed early enough. The production values aren't great, the set is too bright making it look like a daytime talkshow, there's no "desk" and it's the same recycled material from his late night show. Whether you like it or not, it's a shame, but it could just be here to stay.
  17. I've tried the Ipower one but not with great results. Apparently they've improved it but? Maha sells the Charging wizard - MH-C9000 - I've had great results with it. It offers several cycling/charging modes and does wonders in reconditioning the batteries.
  18. just love this one... http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/local/article/51602--famous-kurdish-singer-claims-opp-used-excessive-force-during-highway-takedown
  19. A) the comment is from the NDP who want to invest more money into government funded health care - they're complaint is more money so of course the story will slant this way. necessary and elective? seems like we have some juxtaposition. C) I'm a personal advocate of government health - i've survived because of it.

    DPA Lavs

You can wire the mic directly to ta5f if you want - you'll just have no chance to use the advantages of the microdot. It requires a VERY expensive tool to rewire a microdot to the end of the mic. The DPA's sound great (maybe the best?). The accessory options are vast and many. THe 4071 with the DPA0509 (double sided tape + plastic housing) is a really great solution. If only they were a little less...
  21. the VR field is a little bulky but still a great bet for 6 channels in the bag. You can easily swap blocks (via modules) and for a relatively low cost compared to adding a 411 RX. The VRS modules sell way more? Really? In RF heavy Cities like New York, LA, Toronto, etc VRT's are a necessity. I got in an argument with a fellow out west because he was so excited by the octopack where as I on the east think one will only struggle with RF issues. We then realized we're in different markets. If you travel though, spend a little extra and make sure you front end is covered. The BNC idea is a cool one, though you will have signal loss. Lectro makes the ACOAXBNC where you can just run them from the bottom of the bag up your harness strap. The VR field also offers different diversity modes to give you just a little more range when in tight situations. RATIO diversity pairs two receivers together for instance for just a little more reach. The software integration is great too with its walk test recorder to test for dead spots. I'd love to see a VR field part II over the octopack and I do believe, despite someone's modest sales comment, with some minor adjustments and improvements we could have some great upgrades and a hot seller - BNC's out the top, battery metering (and yes the Remote Audio Meter would work), a slimmer chassis (it was just folded over from the venue rack and they did it with ribbon cables i believe, hence the protrusion out the side) and XLR's out the side so it could rest easily in a bag - we'd have a very functional and again, hot selling unit. We are still their target market. The bulk of their sales are still their wireless. The venue was their first foray to break into venues yes, but they did consider us in that market. Why would they have put a DC input otherwise?
  22. 3 outputs - line, FW and AES DC powered word clock & smpte i hear the preamps are killer
  23. not to bring it back up but the lithium-ion is a rechargeable and recyclable battery. My research on lithium polymer batteries are that they are rechargeable but not recyclable. Essentially you have to drain them with a lightblub, put them in water and toss them in the dump. You're still being green just taking a step into the world of rechargeable and given the price vs 9v alkalines. take the ipower. 200 9v alkalines after a production take up way more room in a landfill then do a coiuple of ipowers.
