    PD606 Update

Hey Alan, It says not all USB thumb drives will work. Do you know which ones will work? Is there any size restriction?
  6. Compare it against the Fostex LR16. I was just playing with one - not bad.
  7. i tested the unit. Sounds sweet. Relatively easy to use. I had no problems with it. The battery is a little funny. The quality is there though. You also have the recording on there in case you aren't happy with the wireless transmission. The digital quality is here to stay.

    PD606 Update

I wonder if they'll ever release a hardware upgrade so the DVDRAM can be used vertically? Right now, you can't . Has anyone modified theirs and put in a new drive?
  9. Hey, just got a call but I'm not in Manhattan Mike Crawford 416-364-2331 It's a toronto production company headed to NY. Either message here or call Mike directly if you can.

do it! Ok - you don't get a return (would you still need one?), but the mixing to the virtual tracks is really nice. Quickly activate limiters, high pass filters, etc. I think it's the way of the future as we move closer to a mixer front end with a recording capabilities.
  11. I know we're leaving the winter months (however slow it may be) but what about traveling to the cold with an internally cabled boom? Are there better cables inside the different booms? Do any become brittle in the cold? Should you take a boom where you could remove the cable easily (VDB, PSC?) Would you recommend one over the other? Lightwave? Ktek? VDB? PSC? Thanks
  12. Hey Jeff, it looks like you run both of these - I could spend my days swapping between ramps, cinema sound, jwsound, etc but I think one good forum for all sound mixers across the globe is needed. I'd like to email some of my friend sound mixers and tell them to use one to increase its awareness. What would you suggest?
  13. i just got the message myself. How is this board supported? Jeff, do you pay for all of the storage? Should it be driven with Donations?
  14. The Cell Tap and That 2 are great solutions but as RVDmixer said it won't allow for true separation of voices. You are actually listening to yourself when you're on the phone as well as the person on the other end - the signal comes out mixed from the earpiece. The Cell tap is a cable off the cell phone's audio out to a signal you can use. The broadcast host goes through electronics inside the box that will give you true separation of the voices with level control. It's a little pricier but a good a pro solution. What might work best is to record both voices with a boom and put what you need through a "phone effect" in an editing platform aftewards?
  15. Would an adapter make it an easy workaround? http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=609

  17. ha! nice - i like the tape. Though the tape would not correct the intermittent problem. When it does go intermittent the batt door stays closed and locked - power = fail.
  18. I've seen this a few times with a few different systems - old and new. I'd be interested in what "mod" they are doing. I tried extending the spring on the door and stretching it out a little but it still happened. It's unfortunate for such a great system.
  19. I'm wondering about using a laptop with audacity to record. Production has always used this setup and want to follow the original setup with a new sound guy. It'll come out of the 302 via the mix out as I'm already using the XLR"s to send to camera. Levels aren't the easiest to set but I think I got them. I also had to go into the Audio I/O preferences to get a 2 channel recording. On my desktop it works fine but on the laptop it seems as though only the left channel will pass audio. The bigger problem is that they want a mono mixdown on one side of the stereo track and timecode on the other. I could buy an interface to get better separation but the last sound guy did it this way with just a cable. Anyway, I guess I'm just asking if there's any hints, tips, tricks or has anyone worked with Audacity to record? Things to watch for? How much space is safe if I'm recording for 12 days straight and a few hours of content every day. Thanks,
  20. I was actually just about to develop the same cable but with the 744t in mind. I'm curious if the tc would bleed into the audio and if not, how would you prevent the bleed? The other idea we I had for the 788t was to still use the return from camera but since you wouldn't want to lose an input to monitor you could probably make use of a little led to signify that signal was in fact coming back from the camera.
  21. Hey, With the new Zaxcom TRX992 transmitter with built in IFB receiver the brain started to wonder. What do guys use now? What are boom operators/mixers using to send their boom to the mixer and get a return to the boom op for monitoring? The Remote Audio Boom Cable System with talkback? A comtek? A XLR cable sending and a long headphone extension? Thoughts and comments appreciated.
