  1. Actually, this suggestion is brilliant. I have an old 442 mixer, 4 inputs with prefade direct outputs. This would open up at least channels 7-10. And it’s dc power, with a little fussing it could sit on my cart beneath the 664 (input knobs on the 442 are identical to the 664). I had thought about using it before, but hadn’t clicked on using the direct out to get to the iso, and then mix out to mix in on the 664. This would actually work for almost no money (a few cables) and let me focus on other important acquisitions. Also, I was thinking of incorporating some fixed microphones on our courtroom set. This would let me hardwire those into ch. 9-10, not impeding my 8 wireless channels. Wow. Thanks again for this idea. I’m glad I reached out for help. I will also look at a 12 channel mixer. As you point out, not expensive option. And faders would be nice.
  2. Thank you Kevin. A very interesting suggestion. Many years ago my focus was the music business, so I am very familiar with analog mixers. I’ll definitely take a look at this.
  3. I would love to expand the capacity of my Sound Devices 664 to easily use channels 6-12. I’ve done it, but mixing using faders in software is difficult on set. The only other option is moving up to the 8 series, and that’s a much more expensive step. If anyone out there has any ideas where one can find a CL-12, or even a CL-6, I would be eternally grateful.
  4. I’ve been using the iPower AA’s for a while. Firstly, the reason they give no warning is: they charge internally to 4.5 volts, and regulate the output to 1.5 volts. As result, when the internal voltage starts to drop from 4.5 volts, by the time it gets to 1.5 volts (matching it’s 1.5 volt output), it is dropping like a rock. Hence, only seconds of warning. It wouldn’t matter if Lectro had a setting for these. I’ve been using them for three years. The first batches were not good. I had a 75% failure rate after a 120 shooting days. But I will give the distributor (in Canada) credit. They replaced everything- all batteries and the charger. These ones have been great. I’ve had one failure in 24 batteries over about 220 shooting days. I like them. I can get 3 hours for sure in an SMV and 6 in an SMQV. I just can’t stand using 1.2 volt AA’s in Lectros. The low batt warnings drive me nuts. I still use non rechargeable lithiums in an SMQV if I want to go almost all day- about 10 hours.
