also remember, actors will say their cell phone is off so "don't worry" the ringer is off but the phone is still xmitting. J.D.
  2. The first AD should have you talk to locations. remember, locations is responsible if something is damaged by turning it off. I've been at locations that won't allow the telephones to be shut off until that "perfect take" is ruined. A PA is usually station at the breaker panel with a walkie to shut things off while rolling. J.D.
  3. It doesn't work with traffic but can work [to a certain degree] with a constant noise like a generator using two trks---one for dial. and one for generator [inverted] and mixed in carefully in post ---It has cut the B.G. for me when carefully done in the right circumstance where the actors are static and using EQ as well.---remember if it doesn't work,no damage done. J.D.
  4. The first movie I mixed was in 1975 up in Angels Camp,Ca. All ext. with people playing and singing and of course tons of Dialogue. I had a Nagra III, a 415,a 405 and Swintech Wireless also my mixer I had built copying Kirk Francis's mixer made out of Kudelski pre-amps.They used 2 Arri 2 C's with furniture pads wrapped around them. They had the guts to mention that they had to loop two lines of dialogue.I thought maybe they were kidding. It was called "Play me some Mexican Music".you will not find it anywhere, thank God! I actually had a great time. J.D.
  5. Lithiums with the SM's is the way to go.It can get pricey but production will pay for them----no worries.
  6. Just having a south facing house with the eaves coming out the proper amount to figure the changes in the angle of the sun from winter to summer and good insulation make a huge difference.I built a small house like this in 2006 and it's amazing how energy efficient it is,without costing a lot extra in construction----planning. J.D.
  7. Ask cam. dept. to get optical glass to put in front of lense-----believe me [particularly zoom lense]
  8. In the mid 70's, I borrowed Bill Nelsons Swintek Wireless [terrible] then Bruce Bisance sold me some Micron Wireless. The Microns were by far superior---better range, better freg. response, less noise. They sounded better than the lectro VHF's when they came out.The limiter in the Microns could handle a car door slam, without crapping out.I was doing a lot of car commercials at the time. But,I bought a Lectro Quad box within 3 months----You could only use three Microns safely together at a time. J.D.
  9. Question about F8----can you overdub on it? in other words, can you playback certain tracks while recording on the others? J.D.
  10. This person knows ALL---He is my new Guru.
  11. Check out "Alien Zone",It had nothing to do with aliens or space.Came out in 1978 and was called originally "Five Faces Of Terror".It was shot in Oklahoma and had a bunch of fun. J.D.
  12. Overlapping ties the overlapped dialogue together and can extremely limit choices in editing.----Try everthing possible not to overlap while shooting,do it in editing.---I'm mainly talking about on cam. overlapping with off cam. J.D.
  13. For creaky floors--have the grips screw it down--also,lay furniture blankets down with dance floor over that. J.D.
  14. Only 4 kwh a day ?so it would cost you under $2 per day ? J.D.
  15. Suppling the lithium is going to be a major problem, but I like the dream. How long will the lithium batts. last----12 to 15 yrs.?
  16. Tippy seems to have done a 180 on her enthusiasm for the film---back in the 70's ,she was fanatical about the making of the film. J.D.
  17. Don't know the voices but love Stan Freberg and Tom Lehrer. J.D.
  18. As jeff said, you can make a schoeps look close to a dynamic mic. J.D.
  19. yea, Bill Nelson set me up with an interview to do sound on "Roar".After walking across the compound inside full of mama lions and their babies to get over to Tippi and Noel and having one of the mamas put her front paws up on my shoulders [lovingly] ,I figured they were a little nuts and not safe.Luckly, kitty cats have always liked me. I left there never to return. The walking across the compound was some kind of test, but dangerous with cubs. J.D.
  20. Also, use your old aluminum pole----carbon fiber poles expand with water [ugly]. J.D.
  21. I have one 210 and it is excellent---I'd compare it to a 211 or even a 411-----it's rock solid. J.D.
