  1. most gravel roads I have been on have a grass or otherwise soft shoulder. Perhaps they can cheat over to the edge?

    guilt?

I was asked to shoot some politicals for a candidate that I really didn't like. Pay was great. I turned them down. They asked again a couple of days later. I said no, again. That felt fantastic.
  3. I don't own one, but I always thought of the 552 as a mixer with a built in backup? But, yeah ... if it has failed several times it's time for a checkup.
  4. Mr. Milliken, Thank You for the information. It looks like a fun (and maybe somewhat stressful) show to work on.
  5. Agree with Eric and Doug. The NTG-3 is nicer off axis than the 416. Wind protection is a must it you are doing outside work.
  6. I only started watching it this season. Actually, someone who isn't me likes to watch it ... I just surf the net on the iPad while she's watching it. It sounds fine I guess, though to me some of the rooms don't sound nearly as big as they look on camera. The cameras move a lot more than I like, which probably explains why it sounds like they use the lavs a lot. I like seeing all the cars.
  7. Congratulations! Only you know what your body is capable of. This is so early in the process that I can't imagine it would be a problem. But, every woman is different. I've worked with plenty of women who stuck to their normal routines up until a week or so before the delivery. I also know of someone who played softball while pregnant ... and not just early in the pregnancy. She played in a game the morning and delivered her perfectly normal baby that evening. On the other hand, I've known women who were on strict bed rest a couple of months before their due date. It sounds like the ideal situation if you can have your husband help out. You guys could turn this experience into a full time sound team. Good luck.
  8. I also find my MKH 50 and 60 to be noticably quieter than the MKH 416.
  9. Between the digital transmitter delay and switching multiple stations/channels at once, it's impossible for Master control to listen to the off air while actually switching. Around here most stations are already running the signal through some sort of compressor, and the compression is so bad that you can hear noise pumping up and down during extended quiet or during the black between programs and commercials. I don't expect anything to change.
  10. For the OP's needs, I would look for a USED G3 or even a G2 setup. Will work great for what he is doing. Lots of news crews use these sets every day with decent enough results. If you really want to go with new gear, take your camera with you when you go over to Pro Sound. That way you can work out all the cables and adapters you will need to get the sound into the camera. Oh, and don't forget headphones.
  11. I run correct time of day on the recorder (or time code if they want it) make certain the scene and take names are entered on each track, and each day's work is in a folder labeled for that day. If they want more than that they need to get another person. It hasn't been an issue for me so far.
  12. Hello Richard, Great to meet you at the New Orleans office yesterday. Good luck with the new venture.
  13. Well, since I didn't miss it, I'll try to come by.
  14. Uhhhh, did this already happen? Check the date, please.
  15. We are in the process of forming an Animation Department in the Lafayette area for the development of a new adult animated tv show pilot that mixes the visual aesthetic of "Futurama" with the humor and cultural relevancy of "South Park". The show is entitled "Grey Anatomies" (a play on "Gray's Anatomy") and is set ten years after Earth has been conquered by a human media obsessed alien race (the Greys) in which the general Human population has been taken as pets. The Greys assume their human counterpart's identities and creates a misinterpreted culture driven by remakes of every movie ever made, replacing the Human cast and crew with Greys. The following positions are currently available: - Animation Directors - Storyboard Artist - Character Design and Layout - Background and Prop Design - Animatics Editors/ Timers - Lip Assignment All of these positions are currently non-paid, but should be considered an investment, for if the pilot happens to be picked up (of which I have full confidence of) your commitment and time will earn you a guaranteed position in the animation department (of which could mean years of well paid work). Professional experience and extensive knowledge of ToonBoom Animate Pro and Adobe design software is a major plus, but not required (although some knowledge of these programs are necessary, for we do not have the resources to train). You will also need to supply your own computer. If you are interested in breaking into the professional animation field with a bang and feel you can be an asset to our team, then please reply to GreyAnatomies@gmail.com with examples of your work and/or Resume along with the following information: First and Last Name, A good contact number, and the position in wich you are interested in applying for. Compensation: Non-pay, permanent position in animation department if pilot is picked up Telecommuting is ok. This is an internship job OK to highlight this job opening for persons with disabilities Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster. Please, no phone calls about this job! Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.
  16. The simplified approach to picture and sound. To capture good images: Point camera. Look at viewfinder. Make changes in camera placement and/or lighting until it looks good. To capture good sound: Point microphone. Listen. Make changes in mic placement and/or environment until it sounds good. The tools and processes used to do either can be very simple or very complicated. What amazes me is that a production can have a hundred people supporting everything necessary to make the picture look good, and still only have 3 people to capture all the sound associated with those pictures (and production still wants to know why you need a third).
  17. All sizes get center reinforcement, except pancakes (a 1/8 box) of course. They are just 2 sheets of 1/2" glued together.
  18. Species of wood is less important then quality of the plywood. Use cabinet grade for fewer voids. Good boxes use 1/2" plywood with a center reinforcement to keep the weight down and maintain strength. 3/4" for all surfaces will give you a 50% heavier box.

    Multi-tools

I use a Gerber. To me the ability to quickly flick out the pliers is priceless.
  20. I used Sennheiser zeps years ago. Very nice, but quite expensive.
  21. If you are able to get away from downtown check out Jack Dempsey's. It's an old style neighborhood New Orleans restaurant. Great fried seafood and amazing Mac and Cheese. Friendly folks and huge portions. This is where the locals eat. I also like Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar. Nice little hang out with good food.
  22. I think the NTG-3 is a nice mic ... but it is phantom power only so doesnt fit your criteria.
  23. I have done live TV in studios and from remote trucks, and all positions. The most stressful is directing live breaking news, or music or live sports with no script.

Now that's an exercise video I'd like to see.
