  1. Just FYI ….for boom pole carry cases. (I’ve air travel checked them many times as well) https://mtncork.com/collections/straight-cases Small business, Made in the USA …custom sizes, color and can even add a logo if you fancy…last 3 I purchased were each about $40. (2’, 2.5’, 4.5’) (USD). Absolutely well built. I add a bit of Gaff on the bottoms just to protect / make it last longer. 2” straight tube is what you want.
  2. I was just filming outside of Nashville for the week and found BLK 22 was definitely congested, but still was able to find something that fit. There were plenty of options in BLK 19/20. Using 2x DSR4’s RX’s, paired with SMQV, SMV, SMWB TX’s I use FreqFinder to coordinate.
  3. Appreciate the testing @The Documentary Sound Guy I’ve always been curious about the SUPER CMIT (and it’s powering / cable situation in a bag). My CMIT5u doesn’t get as much action since picking up my DPA 4017/ 4018 setup but I’ll never get rid of it…same for my MKH60, awkward shape but fantastic directional sound. I utilize them on all of our Sony Venice cameras on my series Barnwood Builders from the start, 17 seasons ago. It’s amazing to watch clips from the DIT and hear that mic cut out chainsaws, drills, and heavy equipment in the background and just focus on what the camera is pointing at during stand ups or ITM beats. And of course the MKH60 is built like a tank.

    Case for CL12

I definitely struggled for a bit to fit my CL12 into my pelicans for travel (1620’s), at first I used the foam sides from the CL12 box to add some protection, but this added so much bulk. Currently I just pack it TIGHTLY with all my other gear in my 1620. Usually it’s the last thing in and goes “on top,” the pelican foam in the lid puts just enough pressure to hold it in place. Not that it adds much protection…but this LMC neoprene “cover” fits snug and has held up nice for me over the years. I fly (domestic) with this setup a few times a month and have had zero issues over the years. Sorry this isn’t much help, but just wanted to share what works for me. 5. 100% THIS. I’m sorry your screen broke- these things do happen…any info on what exactly happened? Direct hit w/ a BNC end? The Denecke JB1’s have a recessed screen and the whole face is covered in a thick protective plexiglass, the case is made of aluminum, battery life is WEEKS and its physical size make the TC-1 look chunky.…the $92 price difference in the JB1 vs the TC-1 is worth it every penny. I’ve used the TC-1 - well was asked to I try them…but that menu and all those buttons, made zero sense to me. Maybe the app is better than the units UI, but I checked out, and had all my JB1’s jammed and running in 30 seconds. No app required. The Diety brand, in my opinion brings nothing new to the (sound) table but low cost. If that’s your jam, then that’s your jam. Denecke has been around since 1974 and STILL hand made in the USA.
  6. The Walkstool is always in my pelican and a solid runner up to the Foam Box. I will say don’t be fooled my imitators…..it is well designed, lightweight and travels very well…made in Sweden. The nock offs are not worth it.
  7. While I’m very interested to see what pops up here ….I’ve seen and tried a bunch of different chairs. They all seem to be the same …nothing special, not that comfortable, and…just ok. It took me a few years to buy one just because I thought it was “stupid”…now I have 6… https://thefoambox.com/product/the-foam-box/ super lightweight, can hang off your cart with a carabiner, (mine actually slides INTO the cart for transport) multiple height settings (Chicago/ LA) ZERO moving parts AND Infinite uses other then just to “sit” on. Made in North America….And of course the BEST part….suuuuuuuuuuuuper comfortable to sit on. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. So damn comfortable. I don’t know about you but I can’t just sit still while I mix…I like to rock, roll, and fidget . Not happening with ANY other seat. I literally take these with me anywhere I’m allowed to “bring my own chair.” Once you try it and there’s no going back…and no it’s not like a wooden apple with those silly foam toppers…
  8. I would first reach out to the retailer you purchased the 2017 from then if advised contact DPA directly. Contact via web portals are always slow in my experience. Nothing beats a DIRECT call. Hopefully this helps. Good luck! Here is the contact for North America. DPA Microphones, Inc. 1500 Kansas Avenue, Unit 3A Longmont, CO 80501 USA Tel. +1 303-485-1025
  9. That Battery Bud USB is pretty slick, and compact. Just be aware that it’s only a 5 -PWR OUT, the 6th is PWR IN (Remote Audio is 6 PWR out) I like the Hirose over BDS, but I’ve never had a problem with BDS coming loose, snug them tight whenever building bag and forget about them. Also right angle cables can help you squeeze things in tighter too, something to consider when looking at the orientation of the outputs of various units. I really liked the large meter (voltage) screen of the RMv2, im not sure how or if you can connect something like that to any of the other distro’s. I would bury the BDS4u deep in bag and then just have the RMv2 meter to power off and on. And FYI I’ve never used a two batt system as others do- one batt sys for wireless/ one batt sys for recorder. One system powering everything always worked for me.
  10. I used the Remote Audio BDS4U for many, many years w/o any issues, the USB is a nothing fast but adequate. Combined with the RMV2 it was a fantastic combo- i have this setup for sale at TrewAudio if interested- it comes w/ a TON of BDS cables as well. I only moved due to getting a 833/SL2 setup. https://www.trewaudio.com/product/remote-audio-bdsv4u-with-rmv2-meter-package/
  11. I can’t speak for the Scorpio, but ive been using the CL12 w/ zero issues for over a year with my 833. Simple USB- USB connection- no external power needed (when using 8 series). I DEFINITELY struggled with the issues you described when using my CL 12 w/ my 664. Constant battle….I’d assume they are the same with the 688.
  12. @Shane Munro Awesome!
  13. I just use these cables $8. Easy breezy https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1145660-REG/kopul_rsmxm_015_stereo_1_8_mini_male.html/reviews
  14. @Shane Munro Sorry- My intention was not to come off as anti Nexus ….I’m not. It’s just -relatively new- and so I was curious what users Plan B was… I thought if I used my own recent example that it would highlight the fragility of putting all your eggs in one basket. This is a serious inquiry, and one that I feel should be considered when researching potential equipment purchases. I’m generally curious to what users of the Nexus would do in a critical failure of a 16 channel unit. It’s just a TON of backup wireless to have on hand. Back in the day I had many a loaner SD unit sent from SD while mine was in repair. It was like a super low rental rate. But a few years back whenever I needed service SD told me they did not have the loaner program anymore. Did they fire that program up again? Or are you’re saying this is a distributor- or dealer - service now? The great thing about the SD loaner program was that it was assumed they would always have a unit for you because they make the sausage….if it’s on the dealers now….you’re at the mercy of what’s available for rental at that moment. Or do dealers have “X” amount of various SD units set aside -not for regular rentals- but for special circumstances?
  15. Thanks! @Constantinsuper helpful ! When you get a chance can you forward me the cheat code to turn my DSR4 into 16 channels. Much appreciated! @codymansorry I’m still doubting the INSTANT or even one day availability of this unit. but I feel you on its user base.
  16. I’m curious what users of the Sound Devices Nexus “Plan B” is when there’s an issue that cannot be resolved in the field and the unit needs to be sent in for repair? That’s up to 16 channels out of commission! Do you have another Nexus waiting in the wings? Or 8 A20 RX’s standing by?….I feel this “too many eggs in one basket” (literally all of the eggs) scenario is a bit of a concern for the remote field work that many of us get into. I work in A LOT of locations with out cellular service and shipping a replacement product can takes days. These shoots aren’t always long but a lot is at stake. I bring this up because after using Lectrosonics SRB/ SRC’s for years without much issue, I switched setups to an 833/SL2/DSR4(x2) and recently had a failure in one DSR4 unit that needed to be sent to the Mothership. Just like that half of my compact wireless setup was out of commission. Lectrosonics and Gotham Sound worked very closely with me regarding my needs to get me back and rolling. Turnaround repair time and shipping was expedited in an unbelievably fast time. Luckily It also coincided with a planned vacation so no major problems in the field were had. However…a week or two either way would have had me stressing (not necessarily struggling) in the field. My various back up setups consist of an SRB/411a’s (3) /PDR/ TRACK E /664 and of course a vast amount of cables and accoutrements. I’m quite adept at adapting to any unexpected setups (or failures)in the field as most of us are, but it does take time (which is never abundant) to get setup properly (again), especially under stress, but that’s what makes us Professionals right? Thankfully issues like that do not happen often. Last I checked Sound Devices eliminated their loaner unit program years ago-and I suspect there’s not many -if ANY- Nexus rental units available (and depending on vendors- not many DSR4’s in rental either…). Just because things shouldn’t break / fail doesn’t mean they wont. Just something to consider….if putting all your eggs in one (Nexus) basket.
  17. Well…Rado… if you read the fine print ….B&H says “limited supply available at this price”. So a sale one could call it? I’m willing to bet a call to any of our “usual suspects” would match said sale price. But what do I know…..
  18. @Shane Munro Here’s a pic for reference on how I sometimes roll with the Piano mount: SMQV/ URSA Pouch/ micro dot extension/ and 4097 on Piano mount (w/TopStik). Extra extension cable is tucked securely into Ursa pouch.
  19. This is my favorite mount! Magnet is SUPER strong, but also w/ some TopStik it’ll stick anywhere. DPA Microphones PC4099 Magnet Mount https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/828107-REG/DPA_Microphones_PC4099_PC4099_Magnet_Mount_for.html use this extension cable to remote the TX https://www.sweetwater.com/c1033--Mic_Cables?highlight=CM2218B00&mrkgadid=&mrkgcl=28&mrkgen=&mrkgbflag=&mrkgcat=&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=92700077195933624&lid=92700077195933624&ds_s_kwgid=58700008069260217&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007215323&dsproductgroupid=2145953073824&product_id=CM2218B00&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=m&network=u&matchtype=&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9006588&creative=625135836145&targetid=pla-2145953073824&campaignid=18467073279&awsearchcpc=&&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqZL7hpmwgAMVQvTICh1uVAXZEAQYASABEgK0SPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds To add: it’s solid rubber, hard, but with some give. Bottom is magnet, covered in rubber-
  20. @Shane MunroOk, first thing…breathe…In through the nose…out through the mouth….one more time ….In through the nose…out through the mouth. We are all family here, we are all here to help and lift each other up. I get it, words on the internet lack empathy, and feeling. It’s hard. I’ve been gobsamcked once or twice on the internet, too. We learn, adapt and move on. Its what makes us stronger. My suggestion, was that this setup wasn’t just a bad idea, but potentially dangerous for talent. I’d be willing to bet most people would agree with me on this. Again, short term, maybe, long term. Nope. There are better tools available for your unique situation. Maybe your missed my sincere apology for “hijacking” the thread. It’s OK. And just to poke a bear…you hijacked your OWN post with a second post that had nothing to do with a Nexus….did you miss that as well? So just calm down…and don’t forget to take a moment breathe. It’s all good dude. Ok, first thing through the mouth….one more time ….In through the nose…out through the mouth. We are all family here, we are all here to help and lift each other up. 21. Uhhhh…I’m most worried about the “nice and nifty” battery exploding in a pocket during a competition tv series…. I have a hard time believing that’s a high quality battery. Look in a jam and thrown a curve by a producer at the last min …sure maybe …long term solution absolutely not. As Professionals we are often tasked with picking the best equipment for the situation….this is not a good pick. Sorry. @glennThis is the correct choice- I’m not a Zaxcom user (FYI -not a hater either ) - but I’d be looking at the ZMT4-X if in a situation described by @Shane Munro @Shane Munromy sincere apologies for hijacking the thread. I dig the nexus- not a user but following- I also dig the A20 mini but the battery life just doesn’t cut it for me. Batteries (in a TX) shouldn’t be something we need to worry about. I want them to power my equipment all day (12hr at least). My 11 year old SMQV’s do that, on batteries available everywhere. Plain and simple.
  22. @thenannymohThanks for the pics of the Pelsue…question, which I also have an inquiry to Pelsue about, How many sides of your model / design roll up? Just the “back” door? Or all of them? Packed is it the same or smaller then the standard “Pop Up”? pics? (Assuming it’s 6’x6.5’) How’s heat inside during full sun? Again, waiting on Pelsue for a response as well, as it seems their site has some pertinent information lacking.
  23. Thanks Johnny will do. But I don’t expect a lot out of it….I mean it was $60 …at Wal Mart. I was more interested in just how the “Pop Out” system works vs the standard issue “Pop Up” designs. This Ozark tent is certainly smaller than the Pelsue tents, and has a height of 63”, which is taller than most of the similar (low budget) designs of this variety found via Amazon. It’s fine for sitting, no standing though. For reference the shortest height Pelsue is 78”. The floor design of the Ozark could be a benefit as you don’t need to stake it or weigh the tent down…the stuff inside does the job. After playing with the Ozark tent I see some cons in the “Pop Out” design (Pelsue/ Ozark). It’s all one height with no adjustable legs. This is definitely a feature I’ve used and would need. The ground is never going to be level. Scaled-up to a larger size (height) I could see setting up being an issue as this smaller design certainly takes some oompah to get it all popped out- this may be a user experience issue- as I never used them before. The “Pop Up” frame can be used to hang stuff from -the “Pop Out” frame is not suitable for this, way too thin. Having the ability to customize the sides of the “Pop Up” IE: / open/ off/ half height/ etc is certainly a benefit. - though the Pulsue does have roll up walls, you are still “netted in”, so not fully open. For the time being I still think the wheel has not been reinvented…”POP UP” is still better then “POP OUT” for production use in my opinion….I’d still like to hear if anyone has any has used something better. I dig everything about the Pulsue, solid build, Heat reflection…made in USA since 1963 …10/10. Again, for a $1k + tent I’d need to see it in person to see how it functions and packs. I put in an inquiry with them, standing buy. It does appear, that the “Pop Out” design is more prevalent in productions the UK, in the US it’s more likely used for construction industries. I have found this company in the UK building “Pop Out” tents specifically for our industry and the prices seem a bit more reasonable. However most seem to be solid type walls with small widows/ screens…I’m sure they are HOT. Good for winter / cold weather, not so much in the summer. https://www.sheerspeed.com/premium-range-173-c.asp
  24. I don’t know anything about this coloring scheme…where is the coloring? On the adapters?
  25. Funny…that was my opinion my entire career - micro dots are fragile- don’t use them if you don’t have to. That’s what I was always told. My Sankens Cos-11’s w TA5F’s had very few failures at the TA5f connector over the years. Then I switched over to DPA mics and of course had them wired TA5f (@Gotham) my first 6 out of 8 6061’s failed / broke at the TA5f connector in months! Switch back to MICRO DOT - TA5f adapters…zero issues on the 20 or so 6061’s / 4061’s I have …been 3 or 4 years now. I’ve been mostly on the same series for 15 seasons, outside in all weather, construction type work, non professional talent, they take a serious beating. Now I’m aware there are non DPA brand micro dot connectors and I suspect that’s where most people get the bad results. Yeah the DPA adapters are $100* each but worth it in my opinion. For reference is use SMQV / 6061’s and I roll 25-30 on the TX GAIN.
