Does anyone know how long the eSMART LiFe batteries take to charge?

I also use the QU quite a lot for reinforcement gigs. The seemingly fluid fader assignment is a nice touch, as I find flipping back and forth between my preamps and stereo ins a bit of a faff with the QU. It'll be nice to be able to mix and match inputs, fx, playback, dca's etc on one page of faders like the GLD.

The advantage with a tentacle is the built in microphone, so there's an option with DSLR shoots for waveform sync if the NLE can't handle Audio LTC, however I agree that the USO, Nanolockit, or the new Betso are very close competitors. Depends what features you need as to which one is a better shout.

I would still say they are better than the tentacles due to the screen and the ability to change settings without the iPhone app or extra cable etc. The DIN connector is a locking connector, so that's a bit more secure. You can also set one unit to be a master, so you only have to jam one and the others will follow. Genlock is also a plus. The battery life is shorter allegedly, but still very good.

I've replaced tentaclesync units with the USO, so the plastic minijack socket was probably as much of a risk as the DIN connectors. I was using BNC adapter cables with the tentacles and they never let me down, however I understand that a dedicated cable is more reliable. As pindrop has said, the DIN connections feel very solid and I've not had any negative experiences with them as yet. As far as the breath of fresh air aspect goes, I only meant that it's one less thing to think about. I can just power it all up and in a few seconds it's all jammed and ready to go and will stay that way all day.

Very good. I have a pair with the Wave as a master unit. Feeding TC from the 633, distributed by Wave and collecting metadata. Not having to jam the boxes is such a breath of fresh air. Really small, really light, really good battery life, and the option of genlock. The only thing I don't like is the plasticky casing, but hopefully a case will be coming out soon before they get trashed. In response to those worried about the connectors, I've not experienced any issues with them yet.

I've just ordered a couple of these. Does anyone know of any case for them? Hoping for something like the 3D-printed style cases available for the TentacleSync units.

I use that pole with the cable exit. It allows me to place the pole on the ground without damage to the connector. The cable also feeds in a way which doesn't get in my way. It's easy to service too, and the end screws off and fits in my peli if I need to fly it. Works for me.

When working with film cameras, I find recommending a TC Slate is a good idea, as it's not a guarantee that TC can be striped onto the film reliably. Digital cameras however, it's not a necessity.

I tend to roll around with a 1560. It holds all my mics, wireless, batts, cables and a shotgun in a supershield. The 633 lives in it's stingray Jr bag and I have the little weatherproof cover for it. For transport, the stingray rides on top of the peli. I have a 1650 for extra protection, but it rarely gets used.

I use the same mic and use an internally cabled 5-pin 2.6m ambient pole. If I switch to mono, then I have made a 5-3 pin converter that I bongo tie to the end. I can switch mics in less than a minute and it gives me flexibility with pole length. Internal cable can be noisy, but with very little practice, you gain a feel for how to handle it.

That does fit my workflow and it looks very good, but I generally begrudge spending money when my existing tools, with a little tweak of javascript, can do the same thing for free.

Could you share your actions for Acrobat? This seems like an ideal workflow for me. I already use Acrobat for bookmarks and highlighting, but never delved into javascript.

Apologies, I didn't make it clear. I'm aware of the all-terrain style zuca already, but I have other plans for something similar to my own specs.

I'd also love to see more details on how you mounted the wheels and what wheels they are. I was planning on making a little zuca all-terrain style cart and I'm struggling to find out how to mount the wheels.

The kit getting damp has never been an issue for me, but it is more an issue of hearing the rain drops hitting the windshield. To stop this, I've had good experiences with the air con filter material. I bought a 3m long sheet of it from an air con service centre for about £5 and cut it to size so that it was folded in half. Bongo tie it around the windshield and it worked a treat. It absorbs the impact of the rain drops and channels the water to the lowest edges. A bit of nexcare tape around the xlr connector and the boom is sealed from the worst weather.

In the UK, I tend to keep my talent mics in CH38 frequencies and use CH70 for non crucial functions like IFBs and camera links. That puts the links and IFBs on higher frequencies than talent, but that's just the UK frequency licensing.

Yeah, it's great! Still going strong with the 788t and CL9. It's now on a magliner upright trolley with a modified nose plate with heavy duty castors. I've been doing a lot of smaller doc shoots over the winter, but it'll be coming back out of the kit room next month for some hard work again over the spring.

I've been using a fishing rod bag with rod tubes for my drama poles, but for doc stuff, I only use a 2.6m pole, so this gator bag works much better.

AKG should still be doing the blue-line. It's still a current range on their website and I bought a couple of omni capsules brand new about a month ago.

Spotted one potential issue, all the connections seem to be on the operator side of the camera. That could be messy on a shoulder rig. I also can't see any TC connections. Hopefully they'll add a sync module or something and perhaps a V-Lock sled?
